floppy fail (40)

When trying to start, I get a black screen with the error message floppy disk fail (40) press F1 to continue.

Press F1 and I then go into windows xp.

Is it possible that I can start directly in xp I used to be able to until this black window appeared.

Go to your BIOS/multi-system and disable the floppy drive. In addition, some systems have the ability to disable the start Diagnostics screen.

    Then... it does not work.

Let me start with how I started to work on this computer. Obtained from a co worker. Only lights. Bought a replacement motherboard and the touchpad assembly she plastic it has installed after a nightmare of screws (someone got a hold of it in front of me and did a terrible job) and tried to run the hard drive recovery. Which failed. Bought the HP Web site restore disc and do a full format on the drive to the remapping of bad sectors. Including the test/recovery partitions. Got the discs, tried to make it work and has not yet. A further control of the hard drive using a live Fedora boot drive, drive seems to report good health and only 8 remapped sectors. Found one of the two sticks of RAM were bad. Has carried out tests of each stick in the same dwelling.

Tried to reinstall again and he has NOT yet. Only thing I noticed, is that he seems strangely partition the drive in a way that does not use all of the 320 GB (400 MB, then 70 GB, 1 GB, or something like that).

I just hope that someone has a magic answer and that he has seen this problem before. Please enlighten me.

So the idea of USB floppy failed. It wouldn't boot. After a quick search, there seems to be without public services online that will do.

And if the product is after the 'End of Life' support, they will NOT change the serial number information encoded in the jury. Even if you are willing to throw money at HP to get there.

HP cares about you as a consumer, it would seem, unlike Dell who has provided at least the utility to do this procedure according to a different forum post.

Replaced mother board need to update the serial number (4216 views)

    Lessons learned...

    • Never buy anything from HP again because they want just that buy you a new one rather than challenge the former at a great price.
    • If you have a bad mother, get a generic Windows OEM drive somehow and do the installation in this way.
    • Get the drivers on their site and you don't have to bother with a recovery disk.

If this post helped you, feel free to answer or give Kudos. At least I learned my lesson once and for all.

  • VFS: Can't find ext3 on dev loop0 file system

I was trying to kickstart iso for an ESX 4.1 unattended installation. I followed the procedure mentioned here:

    http://www.vmprofessional.com/index.php?content=kickstart_2

    But this step

We need to extract the image and mount it as a loopback device.

    [root@esx01 ~]# gunzip initrd.img --suffix .img
    [root@esx01 ~]# mount -o loop /root/initrd /mnt/floppy

fails asking for mentioning the filesystem. So I tried this:

    mount -o loop -t ext2 initrd /mnt/floppy

    It says:

VFS: Can't find ext2 filesystem on dev loop0

    I tried this:

    mount -o loop -t ext3 initrd /mnt/floppy

    It says:

VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on dev loop0

    I tried this:

    mount -o loop -t vfat initrd /mnt/floppy

    It says:

VFS: Can't find ext2 filesystem on dev loop0

    FAT: Invalid Media

No idea how to make it work?

    Thank you

Just had a look on the indications that you follow. ESX 3.0 then you will want to use something a little more current.

    Hello

I found this thread in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19801&MessageID=72625

The case described in the thread above is very similar to your question.
According to this message that every newer BIOS has a protection mechanism which means that even in the case of an incomplete process of flashing, the area responsible for in the BIOS flash for the upgrade is never deleted.

Generally you should contact the service point in your country for this problem, but perhaps the description in the other thread will help you.

  • Failed to load the chipset driver. NLite or Floppy work.

    Hi people,

    I use a HP XW8400 (CPU Intel Xeon 5150 chipst 5000 X).

I tried all means to get Windows XP PRO to detect my SATA HDD internal storage - and none of them have worked.

Loading the drivers using the F6 floppy method key kept leading the message iaStor.sys is corrupted.

As an alternative I used Nlite to integrate the drivers in a new Windows XP installation disc.

I downloaded the drivers of chipset of the RST on the Intel site for my specific chipset (5000 X) in a new Windows XP installation disc, and although the operating system installs correctly it does not always detect the SATA internal HDD.

Although my OS is 32-bit, I tried slipstreaming separate 32-bit and 64-bit Windows XP installation (in desperation) disc just in case where the 64-bit version worked and have had no success with either.

    I don't know what I can do?

Please - does anyone have an answer?

If you create a player files_and disk floppy external USB is used, ensure that it is plugged into the system
before you begin step 1. The diskette is not inserted at the latest.

    1. Insert the CD of the operating system and Power On to start
    from the CD.

    2. from the beginning of the installation of operating system, the
following message appears at the bottom of the screen:

"Press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or RAID driver...". »

When the prompt appears, press F6.

    3. later in the operating system installation, you are notified that
a mass storage device could not be detected. When this notification
happens, press S (S = specify additional device).

    4. When you are prompted, insert the floppy disk that was created from the SoftPaq
    file and then press ENTER.

    5. Select the appropriate driver and press ENTER.

NOTE: At this point, the following message MAY appear, according to
on the version of your operating system CD. If the prompt,
Press S = use the driver on floppy disk and continue, if it is
appears not to, go to step 6. The prompt reads as follows:

Windows already has a driver that you can use to
    "Intel (r) XXXX".

    6. continue with the installation of an operating system, you are prompted.

    Hi fear_angel,

Well, I think in this case you can do anything and I would not try this BIOS recovery program. There is no formal way and you could destroy most or the entire module ROM.

You must contact an authorized assistance service provider. Technicians can try to reflash the ROM module I'm sure they will help you as much as possible.

  • Satellite Pro A15 - Recovery CD fails to resolve the failure of windows startup

Windows crashed on this computer, and now, it fails to boot from the hard disk. The machine gets as much as allowing the choice of which drive to boot, but the recovery CD is unable to solve the problem, as it hangs on during an attempt to review/set partitions. I can get the recovery CD to launch and get used to MS - back. Then I can look at the files in a:, b: (connecting a USB floppy), c:, d:, and x: (recovery cd).

Any ideas on the restoration of the situation apparently not too seriously?

    Hey Buddy,

It of strange that recovery disk doesn t work because it contains a pre-tested picture to factory settings and normally it should always work.
If not the recovery disk is defective (striped) or it s a hardware malfunction

I think the best way to resolve this issue using an original disc of Microsoft. With this disc, you can also reinstall Windows.

  • Portege 3480CT: how to make a USB bootable floppy drive?

I need help to make a USB bootable floppy drive.
My laptop 3480CT has not the traditional floppy drive instead, it uses a USB floppy drive and the bios has an option to boot from USB FDD.

I would like to use a USB key to start (a Lexar Jumpdrive 32 MB 05dch 0080 h and GTX 1 GB 1516 h pid pid 8628 h), instead of the floppy. I want to load the boot XP on floppies, so I run recovery programs using chkdsk.

I tried the usual suspects, the bootloader makebootfat and mkbt20 HP.
I tried the demo version of the commercial product Flashboot.
I photographed a floppy back 5.0 system on the USB key using the I-Setup demo.
All failed including the specific option in the makebootfat images for FDD option and 3 different options of Flashboot.

    I ran
    http://Enos.itcollege.EE/~mkalme/Pahn/tut/tut.html

Using Hexplorer ICY, I was able to confirm that the DOS5.0 on the boot sector pendrive is identical to the diskette.
I could start in Dos5.0 from a floppy disk with drivers USB Panasonic and confirm that my Lexar was a system of 1.44 MB disk and command.com displayed in the directory. The GXT is not recognized by the Panasonic, nor BACK USB drivers to Duse 4.4 4.9. Another worrying indicator, it is my computer XP did not see all of the files on the pendrives, not command.com, or two hidden files (view all the hidden files option).

I learned that Transcend a specific option that creates a bootable 1.44 mb floppy
    image on their USB key.

Here is what I have gathered, corrections and suggestions are welcome.

Interface USB the USB protocol specifications

    bInterfaceSubClass field specifies the Protocol
01 order reduced block (RBC) a flash device
UFI 04 a floppy drive floppy drive
05 FDD SFF-8070i SFF-8070i command blocks however, funding may be in a different subclass for example RBC

bInterfaceProtocol field specifies the transport protocol
00 control/Bulk/Interrupt (CBI) with break of completion for FFD only
01 CBI without interruption of completion for the FDD only
transport in bulk only 50 h, including priming

I don't know if the USB controller must imitate the FDD Protocol.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

You cannot boot from the USB key.
The BIOS of the laptop does not support something like that.
Laptop factory supports and use different BIOS versions. As far as I know on this laptop Toshiba BIOS was installed.

To my knowledge this BIOS does not support booting from the USB key, but only the HDD, ODD, LAN or USB - FDD.
If you want to boot from USB FDD, you can create a bootable FDD floppy.
Windows operating system creates the boot floppy drive when you right click on the connected floppy drive and select format. Then simply choose the option create MS-DOS startup disk start.

If all goes well it s not a serious fault because sometimes this seems due to HARD drive failure.
But like I said above usually the new installation of operating system restore CD for this problem
