Foglight - utility Agent AppMonitor
All,
Thus on the horizon is a MASSIF of Foglight deployment. I need to get 100 + environments and utilities networks monitored.
I just re - start the launch phase of the project.
One thing that we look at a number of demons and process in all of our dev evionments. I would normally have this with the App_monitor agent. But I would prefer NOT to deploy legacy agents. Is there an ETA on migration to the EGG?
Hello
We plan to have the Appmonitor cartridge replaced by a new version which uses data from process cartridge agent Infrastructure in our major release of end of 2013. As Mike Reys, already mentioned, we do not currently collect all necessary data in the process, but we do not have a user interface to configure settings of style Apmmonitor (choose the process and display specific data for them), and we do not yet have alarms either.
In the next 5.6.7 version of the cartridge of the Infrastructure, we however add an extra dashboard, allowing you to investigate the process information. The dashboards of the process that provides a summary of the CPU and the memory usage by process, as well as a picture of the details of the process will be available as an exploration of the dashboard Infrastructure environment. When a specific host is selected, the dashboard is available if a CPU usage by process or memory usage by process link under graphics of the use of the corresponding resources.
Maybe this new dashboard will be of value in what you're trying to accomplish, or at least partially help you for now. It is also relatively simple to add a rule that checks the CPU usage or the process memory and alarm on it. The data is stored in the HostProcess object.
5.6.7 IC should be available in the coming weeks.

PS_App could not be found in foglight monitor agent areas
Hi all
We have configured the monitor agent PS App for Peoplesoft-Windows machine monitoring. We gave the home path and the path of smoking in the properties of the Agent and the cartridge is 5.6.2.1 we use.
the agent is unable to find the areas for the host, especially for Windows machines.
Please suggest some troubleshooting steps to resolve this problem.
Thank you best regards &,.
Guenoun
Gokuinath, I recommend put you foglight agent manager that is associated with the agent of PeopleSoft application in debug mode. With the debug mode, we can see in file of newspaper on what additional information the agent.
The command below will activate the debug mode without having to restart a foglight agent manager:
fglam.exe - set-global-debug-level 1
You must disable and re-enable the peoplesoft application agent that you have worked.
To do additional debugging, we see the files of fglam newspapers and the foglight peoplesoft agent logs

Need access to the JMX setters with foglight JMX agent
Hello
I am trying to use the agent of JMX foglight and get all Get JMX accessor methods. However miss me the methods that require parameters passing and setting attributes to my server. Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.
Arvind
Note that the JMX agent is designed to collect periodic measurements of the target of MBeans for monitoring purposes.
The JMX agent includes any capacity designed to trigger or setters on these MBeans function calls.

Properties of the Agent Foglight FMS 5.6.7
Morning,
As you can gather, I'm new to this software. I have another question related to installation. I am currently at the stage of the development of events and monitoring service in the Agent Properties screen
How to set up IIS monitoring? I read that this is carried out using the cartridge of the Infrastructure, is this the case? I ask the same question about windows processes.
If you are simply interested in monitoring the process and availability you can do with an agent of the utility called appmonitor which is part of the supervision of legacy OS (works on windows and unix)
If you do not look for surveillance that include things like the IIS Web sites, etc. application pools the right agent is the agent of .NET.
Hope this helps

David,
When you have deployed WebMonitor, did specify it URL to monitor? You will reach those URLS of the machine where the agent WebMonitor? Are there errors in the log files?
Also, can you post a snapshot of the file list of agent Web Server Properties screen?
Thank you
Golan
P.S. in the case where you have not worked with before agent, the configuration is specified in this article http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/w/admins-wiki/5646.monitoring-application-availability-using-foglight-utility-agents

Hello
We have an obligation of monitoring of a set of processes that we need of alerts. We have a custom dashboard that displays all the processes running on the monitored hosts but when we tried to create alerts for "alert for process if he stopped", we do not get an alert.
We tried "HostProcess' topology and selected"localState"for the business process. But this force give no warning.
Please could someone suggest me how can I trigger an alert for this "State of process."
Kind regards

Shiva,
What is meant by cartridge are you using toe monitor all processes running on a host?
To monitor the availability of specific process, we generally use the appmonitor agent

Foglight 5.6.5 | Backup management
Hello
We use foglight 5.6.5 we want to monitor backup devices. like availability, error, jobs, etc...
Please tell me, what is the name of cartridge that is supported for foglight 5.6.5?
Thank you
Christopher F
There is no cartridge 'out of the box' for this.
You can add in fact default monitoring features of Foglight with utility officials, one of them (logfilter) monitors especially newspapers and another (appmonitor) monitors the process http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/w/admins-wiki/5646.monitoring-application-availability-using-foglight-utility-agents.
Everything that has an existing script or a command line interface (shell, perl script, java script, etc.) can be monitored using a script agent (enough of wrapping this script and send the output to the Foglight Server).
I hope this helps.

Foglight cartridge for the monitoring of newspapers
Hello
I was looking for cartridge for the monitoring of newspapers for the FMS Version: 5.6.10 and I have not found, can anyone let me know if there is any cartridge in Foglight to monitor logs. My requirment is to check the exceptions/strings in log so that I can generate alerts on it.
Thank you
Shashank Soni.
As mentioned Vlad, there's an agent called LogFilter, which can monitor log files
It is a part of the BONES of the legacy that the cartridge is downloadable under the name
"Cartridge Foglight for operating systems 5.5.4.
https://support.software.Dell.com/download-install-detail/4973219?prodjid=1-7GCB8-91
An example of use of the cartridge can be found in this article
The cartridge requires a Foglight Manager Agent to be deployed on the computer where the log files.
I hope this helps.

Hi all
We use the IC 5.6.7 cartridge for our monitoring infra goal. We have a requirement for the windows log file monitoring so that we can trigger alerts based on the words and we have not inherited cartridge more.
Can we control logs using IC cartridge or any separate available for monitoring log files?
Please let us know those required as we need.
Kind regards
Guenoun
If it's just normal newspaper followed, you can use the logfilter officer but which does not require a fglam on the computer running target

Connect to monitor files using Foglight 5.6.4
Hello
We try to use the filter of the journal agent to control the log files in our guarded environment. With the help of documents and help forums, we have known that he collect newspapers reviews and put them in the log of events and we alert.
We are in doubt, if the agent works the same for PHP applications as well? If Yes, what is the required access to the configuration of the agent on the servers PHP... and these are all components required for the deployment of the agent on the application server (as PHP applications supported versions)...
Please share us the info on this because it is very urgent and important...
Thank you best regards &,.
Guenoun.
Logfilter agent should work for application logs (application servers, the client connects, it doesn't care if it's PHP, Weblogic, different version or simply you have Developer logs), it's a very simple agent, once it's pointing to text log file it leans on the lines that are added to the file and send notifications when he sees the pre-defined keywords that indicate a problem...
You can see an example of the use of logfilter here
You must install Foglight Agent manager on the target computer, you must deploy agent logfilter, to point to the log files and to indicate what keywords are a symptom of a problem and the attention of what say that they indicate.
If you have a restricted environment, you can install fglam as the same user who is creating/writing these log files.
Hope this helps

Tomcat tracked using Foglight 5.6.4
Hi all
We have a new requirement to monitor Tomcat applications. Searched the forums and support for the corresponding cartridge Tomcat but the Foglight sites 5.6.4 can't stand the cartridge it seems. In addition, we have an option to monitor using Java EE cartridge using the Deployment Manager agent Java. In this, we can define the configuration settings in the properties of the Agent and the monitor.
Please let me know what version of Tomcat supports of foglight and concept of using node manager and without Node manager in servers and the level of compatibility with the Java EE officer and also the requirements for the monitoring of tomcat applications.
Share links and knowledge in this regard.
Thank you best regards &,.

How to monitor tomcat 4.0 &; 5.0
Hi all:
Foglight v5.6.5 cannot monitor tomcat 4.0 & 5.0. My client needs a lot.
How can I meet the requirements.
Tanks a lot.
Hello
You have the following options:
1. execution of the Foglight Java agent in agent X mode, which will give you the JVM as well as seek time of traces and the degradation of the layer information.
The information on this subject exist in this solution to support https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?ID=SOL68881
You can also read the great explanation on X agent Brian Wheeldon wrote this response http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/f/4788/t/19549840 area
2 monitoring using JMX with jdk 1.5.x or higher agent (you will see that all information is published with JMX).
3. you can always use the utility agents: Appmonitor follow the process running, webmonitor to monitor the availability of web pages and logfilter to check the log file for exceptions. If you Fxm/Fxv launched, you can monitor web traffic to the tomcat server.
I hope this helps.

cron job Monitor and the status of the scheduled task
I can't find all the rules for the cron and scheduled task of monitoring, any suggestions?

It will be interesting to see what other solutions the Foglight user community found for this.
A simple option I can think of is having the task cron/writing to a file log and this logfile with LogFilter monitoring officer

I created a log for a specific host filtering rule. I'd like the alert rule when it detects a specific string. I would add something like this under the scope of the rule
LogFilter_ErrorVerbose where monitoredHost.name = "xxxx" & occurrences = occurrences return result.values (scope) {it.contains ("xxxXXX")}.value.findAll () .size > threshold
For alert filter paper when he sees a strong in a log file all you have to do is add this string in the list under the properties of the agent.
Just leave the original rule as-is, change the properties of this agent logfilter, clone the game list so that you can have a list for this specific agent and change the list of correspondence for the string and the severity level, it represents
You can view the document for more information
As well as the text of the document next for example http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/w/admins-wiki/5646.monitoring-application-availability-using-foglight-utility-agents
