  • Unable to format DVD R/W

    Model HPPav 500-210qe

    Windows OS 8.1

    Intel I5 processor

    SuperMulti DVDWR

Everything works fine except formatting DVD W/R. When you try to format a DVD R/W, the band of 'My PC', in the upper part of the screen slowly scrolled from right to left, parks in the "X" at the right end. The Panel to "Format" never shows any progress and the format never ends.

If I interrupt the format, 'Cancel', a daughter window tells me that format can not be interrupted. Windows Explorer reports that it is inadmissible. If I agree to cancel Windows Explorer, I can eject the DVD, but it can not be opened, read or formatted.

If I move the DVD to a Windows 7 PC, it cannot be opened, read or formatted. Return the DVD to Win 8.1 system and tempting to opening any function result in a blue screen. The recovery occurs in 2 or 3 minutes.

I use DVD R/W for backup, but since purchasing this PC I couldn't reuse of my backup DVD.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Problem solved... It turns out that the DVD R/W cannot be re-written n times. The recordable layer is burned whenever the DVD is formatted. If I had thought about it I would have made "Burning" means exactly that; the data are burnt in the recordable media. It took a technician HP in Nova Scotia to point out what should be obvious.

Again, I appreciate your efforts to help him.

  • USB not formatted; DVD player does not, external readers connect... something wrong, please help!

    Hello
Desperately need help with my wife's cell phone.
The dvd player will be noread disc. The drive is there in my computer but cannot read the content. I went to the pc with the problem world, they tried to attach an external hard drive, but it had the same problem, so they told me to restore to factory settings.
I have a lot of photos I want down the comp before I restore (if that's what I do) but when I attach a USB key or an external hard drive via USB it said that they are not formatted, although they work on another pc.

I want to save my photos but the difficulty of the laptop. Can someone tell me what I need to do?
    Help most appreciated.

    Thank you

Stay away from PC World and other 'big box' stores. If you cannot do the following works yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the laptop to a local professional. Get recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.

    1. remove the hard drive and put it in a USB drive enclosure (or use an adapter) and attach it to a working computer. Then, copy your data.

    2. Once your data is safe, put the drive in the laptop and do a factory restore. If all goes well, after that, restore your data from the copy that you made. If everything is not well and/or the factory restore does not work yet, you have the hardware failure. What you do then much will depend on which components have failed and how old is the laptop; that is, it is worth spending anything to fix. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

I am convert family videos to video tape to DVD using a Toshiba DVR.  I want to make copies of these using my laptop (Sony Vaio, Windows 7).  I copied some files on my hard drive and then burned a DVD using Windows Explorer.  The burned copy would not play on my computer or my normal DVD player. When I try to burn a disc using Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Player, or Windows Media Center, they would not even recognize the data were there (a problem of format?). But Windows Explorer I would like to burn a disc. I can play the video file that is in my hard drive using Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, so there is something that the computer recognizes. Why other DVD players cannot play these files?  What is a format problem? From what I can tell they are. IPO or. BUP or. VOB format. There was some error messages about the codec used to compress the file. Could this be something to do with the format or how my machine is burning the disc? Or, more likely, this is the format the Toshiba Burns videos from the video tape?

Trying to copy DVDs by extracting the files, converting them
compatible formats and the use of DVD authoring software
to burn on DVD can be a lot of time, problematic
    task.

What if all you want to do is to copy the DVD created by the
Toshiba DVR... See the following simple solution.

The freeware ImgBurn can create an ISO Image
that allows to burn copies. Once you have the
image created... you can use it to burn as many copies
    as you need.

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Ignore most of the download buttons and click to the left of the
green circle with the white arrow... He says...

    Download ImgBurn:
    http://www.Digital-Digest.com/software/download.php?sid=470&SSID=0&did=1
    (The download is: SetupImgBurn_2.5.7.0.exe)

(During the installation there will be an option to install
Shortcuts of UniBlue and the "Ask Toolbar"... you can
    you want to deselect those)

I'm trying to export a project long enough (1.5 hours).  There several sequences grouped together on a single sequence that I've marked 'all '.  I use Media Encoder, preferences are to create a DVD file and it crashes.  Here are my conversion settings:

OK, so it crashed again, but I was watching to see where it went down to see if there was a certain task that he did.  I caught and looked at my file original and noticed that the particular sequence in my sequence of "All sequences" (hehe) wasn't right cheek.  However, when I opened this original sequence, he plays very well.  So I deleted the sequence of 'all' and reinserted it.
