Freezing vm workstations

Some of our users are complaining about their virtual machines are freezing at that time at the time, it can last from a few minutes to several hours.  When we look at the Task Manager, the virtual machine uses the resources of 100%.

These users are using Sharepoint, Sql Server and BizTalk on their machines.

It is without limits/reservations/pools or whether to limit these machines and there are a lot or resources on the host.  So, nothing can explain this.

Does anyone have an idea where to look?

SQL can be very resource intensive.

If you have multiple virtual machines on the same ESX host - with this same config and allocate resources - it's pretty easy to get into a situation where you encounter performance problems.

The thing to really watch is the number of vCPUs that you attach each VM - if you have high amounts of vCPUs per VM (more than 2) and you have a low number of cores / processors on your ESX host - you may feel processor scheduling issues. -In this case, simply reduce the number of vCPUs per VM should help solve your problem.

  • Freezing of construction-2496824 VMWare Workstation 11.1.0

    Hello

I have a Windows 7 x 64 using Workstation 11.1.0 host (assessment of the trial).  I have a Windows 8.1 Pro x 64 running virtual machine.  It is the only virtual machine running.  A few minutes after starting the virtual machine, the virtual machine and the Workstation locks.

I do Ctrl + Alt + Delete and open the host Task Manager.  VMware.exe is always 25% of the CPU (I have a Core i7-4600U, so there are 4 cores with hypertheads).  VMware - vmx.exe CPU usuage varies.  My only option is to kill the process vmware.exe.  Then, the host runs normally.  To run the windows 8.1 host once again, I have to restart the computer, as it says the prompt is used.

When the computer restarts normally that's fine.  But this time he started running slow after a minute.  I opened the windows Task Manager.  Once it is open (after 10 minutes) I found that the CPU utilization was only 1% or more.  After 10 or 15 minutes of looking around, I started to kill the VMware processes.  After that I took some to the host ran normally.  It's working normally now.

The issue of freezing happened 4 or 5 times in two or three days.  When I kill computer vmware.exe always goes back to normal.

I did a few things like proactive:

    (1) add folder VM to the exclusion list antivirus, windows search, exclusion of our backup software list exclusion list.

    (2) remove the floppy and CD drive from the list of virtual machine hardware.  I read that could cause a hang upwards.

The event log does not contain something interesting.   I have attached all newspapers of vmware, I have for the machine virtual windows 8.1.

Any suggestions on what I can do next to try to solve this further?

The host is not lock it just the vmware workstation app.  I wanted to clarify that.

Other than the VM Pro 8.1 Windows only other VM I have is Windows XP Mode.  I started the XP Mode VM and it has always worked very well after having worked in the virtual machine for an hour.  I then restarted the VM of Windows 8.1 and three minutes later, he locked and workstation.  I see two vmware - vmx.exe treated one to 25% CPU usage in Task Manager (I presume VM Windows 8.1) and the other with barley any use of CPU (likey XP Mode).  Vmware.exe also has 25% CPU usage as before.

I'm in the resource monitor and to suspend the process vmware - vmx.exe which uses 25% cpu and now a workstation and the XP Mode VM work properly.  I then clicked on 'stop' the machine virtual windows 8.1 and has resumed the vmx process.  VM stop the 8.1 Windows workstation with success.  Workstation and the XP Mode VM still work normally.

So certainly issue between the workstation and the machine virtual windows 8.1 but I am not a guru vm or work station, so I can't determine what is the question.

    Edit

Repeat the question.  Is a wait analyze on vmware.exe chain in resource monitored and must wait on himself: "one or more threads to vmware.exe wait to finish i/o network." and "vmware.exe PID XXXX 6208" Thread.  So some kind of blocking of the thread?  When I suspend the vmware - vmx.exe running to my VM of Windows 8.1 then the vmware.exe CPU usage goes to 0%. But the wait vmware.exe watch chain still he waits on itself with the same message as above.  I then return to the vmware-vmx process and the CPU goes up to 25%.

I can fix things without killing the process vmware or vmx suspend windows 8.1 vmx process, use windows 7 taskbar live preview for click shutdown (square button) and then resume the vmx process.  At that point the 8.1 windows vm shutsdown immediately and the workstation (with the xp mode vm) is operating normally.

He has worked to find a few days but starting to give me this problem.

    Edit2

OK problem solved I think.  Our IT technician installed Malwarebytes Anti-malware over another anti-virus/anti-malware program.   Which was causing the computer to 'lock' (run slow but cpu was near 0% so desire ' cpu loading) during start, sounds a different problem than what I saw, but it may affect both workstation.  Also my VMs used NAT so I tried to switch to bridged and disabled the NAT and DHCP service.  Featured two fewer services to run.  Don't know which of those (if any) was causing the problem, but after those changes it works (for the most part very well).

  • VMware Workstation 7 - why my PC freezes when opening a virtual machine?

I used workstation 7.0 on my laptop Lenovo T400 of windows 7 for a month or two without any problems.

Then a couple of days Workstation started OK but every time an attempt to open an image vmware of the laptop screen and the keyboard & mouse 'freeze' - no error message. I have to hold the power button / stop down to the laptop.

The same vmware image works fine on another PC.

I had some trouble uninstalling workstation initially-, but using the vnware uninstall tool I was able to uninstall and reinstall the post work - but still cannot open one of my images without the laptop freezing vm.

I tried to install workstation 7.1 and vmware player 3.1 separately and they will appear to install (and uninstall) without problem - just can't open VM images. One thing I noticed is that when you reinstall workstation/vmware player - I can't find the adapter vmnet1 and vmnet8 at all. When you run vmnetcfg.exe, it seems to think vmnet1 & vmnet8 are there but they do not arise with ipconfig/all-command.

Made a full chkdsk of the hard drive to find errors and a test of the RAM mem - everything was OK.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

    John,

I think it is most likely the result of the HW drivers updated being installed on the laptop.  I had this situation happen to me recently, my Intel Wifi driver has been updated and would crash my PC every time my computer was running and the laptop was trying to go to sleep, then wake up.  I found a new version that seems to have corrected the problem.

Windows 7 has a great utility called the monitor of reliability for these situations.  If you presents a history of reliablity per day and more important still, tells you what happened day.  For example, on 6/7 you updated your Wifi driver and then for the next week you can see that your reliability rating is down to 5, every day since. :

  • Guest operating system freezes in a virtual machine running Workstation 6.5

Hi, I am currently evaluating VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 (build 126130) on Vista Business 64 - bit and have migrated a physical installation of Windows XP Pro SP3 to a virtual machine.

The virtual machine performs well except occasional crash which can only be remedied by the suspension and resumption of the virtual machine.

I have searched the forums for related issues, but have not yet found a solution.

Currently, it seems that the disconnection occurs when I have access to the network in the virtual machine, but it is hard to confirm.

I turned on logging (attached a log file that precedes a gel), but the content does not tell me much. Are there other tools/options to diagnose this problem?

    Concerning

    Peter

I solved my instance of the problem.

Recently, I upgraded my host to a dual Intel processor hardware heart system Vista 64. After the upgrade, I changed the settings of the processor to use 2 virtual processors within the virtual machine.  I have run several virtual machines from XP (32 bit), Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) and Windows 2008 (64-bit).  On all of the virtual machine, I changed the setting to use 2 virtual processors.   I lived this problem only on the XP VM.  After looking on XP VM VMware debugging logs, always caused freezing of the errors be connected that the VM could not ask an interruption.  As this now seems a problem of interruption (rather than deliver a network - although the operation of the network were the trigger), I immediately thought of the CPU setting I changed.  I changed the number of virtual processors to one and the problem disappeared!  As I discovered other positions within this community, VMware will benefit from two cores, but does so at the level host hardware and not in the VM then.  BTW... My Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 VM retains the value to 2 virtual processors that they perform very well.

I hope this helps some other members who have similar problems.

  • Linux host freezes with 10.0.6 Workstation and Windows 7 comments

    Hello

I am now quite desperate because it is really preventing me from doing my job.

I deleted Windows and I installed a fresh Kubuntu 14.04.02 (LTS) with 64 bit under my desk. I also installed VMWare Workstation 10.0.6 to run my development machines. I am now having serious problems:

Every now and then, my full host is the gel if I'm running a Windows 7 virtualized on my workstation. The mouse only moves very slow and all the windows are very (!) slow response. My CPU monitor list all 4 CPU to 100%. If I managed to open the monitor system (or top on the console), I can see that vmware-vmx and kwin burn most of my CPU resources. If I wait 10 seconds to a minute, the system becomes usable. Now CPU goes down to normal. But as soon as I start to move a window (any one), the thing is happening again.

    Symptoms in short:

    • HOST: Linux Kubuntu 14.04.02 (x 64) on Intel i5 CPU with 8 GB of RAM and running on SSD (ext4).
    • COMMENTS: Several Windows 7 (x 32) several software running. Assigned 1 CPU and 1 GB of RAM. It comes on several guest computers.
    • Every now and then, all my CPU taking nearly 100% 4. The host CPU is used by vmware-vmx and kwin (used above) processes. Sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes directly after turning on the prompt. No idea on reason.
    • Host of mouse, Windows, and OS works very very slow.
    • Meanwhile, Windows 7 virtual machine is inactive! Energy saving or screen saver are all off!
    • If I manage to run Taskmanager guests, I don't see an action (sometimes TaskManager itself using 60% of CPU!). Looks to me that the host is down, not comments!
    • My host is running an SSD (256 GB).
    • VM log file does not show something during this phase.
    • VMware.log attached.

    What I tried:

    • I disabled 'Accelerate 3D' for all my virtual machines.
    • I have re-installed VMWare Tools on the guest computers.
    • I run VMWare workstation with vblank_mode = 0/usr/bin/vmware
    • I recreated the machine with less hardware as possible and recharged the .vmd.
    • I converted to virtual prior to the current format format disk image (VMWare asked me to the front step, I said 'yes').
    • I have inserted a separate network card (NIC) and disabled the network card that is embedded in the BIOS.
    • I disabled the onboard graphics in the BIOS and added a card NVIDIA GeForce 8400 PCIx16 (using NVIDIA binary drivers provided by Kubuntu).
    • I removed the CD-ROM of the virtual, Audio computer, diskettes and any unused material.
    • I have tried using cpulimit strangle vmware-vmx and kwin on my host, but without success. System remains unusable in this situation.

    No success at all.

Is there anything else I can do to put my environment in a productive state? You can imagine that this always happens in the worst situations :-(

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    I found this page:

Disqus - Arch Linux becomes insensitive to khugepaged

It seems that this did the trick!

    I ran (as root):

    never echo >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag

    madvise echo >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag

Since then, everything works fine. :-)

  • Installation of VMWare Workstation 11 freezes with gray screen!

    Hello

I know this is a very known issue, but difficult to solve, I can't install VMWare Workstation V11 (tried with the old version 8, the same) since as soon as I click Setup, I have a gray screen and installation seems suspended it.

Tried the same thing with VMWare Player, same result, even with older versions...

No way to close the gray screen, unless you kill the process.

My case is laptop Thinkpad T510, native W7 64-bit, processor Intel i5, 4 GB ram, Java utility installed and 100% updated, Nvidia GPU, nothing strange.

  • Mouse Vista freeze for mobsync.exe (Microsoft Sync Center)

    Hello

My Vista system had mouse freeze for 10 or 15 seconds every few minutes for some time now, too long for me to start simply undo the restore points. I read what is on the net about others who have had the same problem and tried many patches, but without success to get rid of or even change the problem.

I have a MS optical blue USB mouse, running on an ultimate Vista update install on a Dell workstation. Gel mouse is often coincides with the hard disk activity, so I tried to decommissioning and anything that may run intermittently the hard disk in the background, but once again without any effect on the problem of indexing.

Recently, I brought up the Task Manager and left open. A few minutes later when gel mouse happened again, I saw "mobsynce.exe" appears in the list of processes, and then disappear a few seconds after the mouse resurrected itself. That's what happens whenever the mouse crashes, at least on my system.

I had never heard "Microsoft Sync Center", and read on this subject on MS gave me not a lot better understand why it's popping in and out, as if it were. I tried to turn off all the files and readers, without changing the frequency of freezing.

MS wrote of Sync Center can not be disabled or uninstalled. I have not all attached to my machines, I know mobile devices. I am on an intranet home, and I have the HP MediaSmart Server on this network, as well as some other machines.

In Sync Center, I have nothing that could be stopped to be synchronized, no evidence of errors, etc. Its only function on my system, seems to be to freeze my dozens of mouse of times every day.<|:-)>

Anyone know about this feature from the center of synchronization and how to behave and leave my mouse only or even what the devil Sync Center is supposed to be for? Is there something to do with it being a USB mouse that makes the Center Synchronization think to check for "synchronization"?

As part of the 'trying everying that everyone has suggested on the net regarding the mouse Vista freezing problem', I have installed/uninstalled drivers for this mouse mouse, but also using some generic driver for Vista is here. No change to anything. I have not tried switching to the a PS/2 port, but only because what I read just said he is indifferent to the problem.

Thanks for your help with this.

    Ian J.

    For all the world's information...

I rebuilt the USB stack and introduced to the mouse backwards to a USB mouse. I experienced the same problem as before, gel apparently slightly worse, which makes the mouse unusable. The only solution that worked in my situation is plug the USB mouse with a PS2 port adapter and use it that way. There are still sometimes 'breaks' but not gel, and they may have other causes.
