G62 Notebook and Ubuntu Linux

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop G62 450er. But I can't use it because the wi - fi card does not work.

'ifconfig' shows that two interfaces "eth0" and "lo". "Lspci" also gives the name of the installed card - 'Ralink 5390'.

I downloaded the official drivers from www.ralinktech.com but I can't install it and I can't find any manual. I have no experience in installing drivers of source that I can do this by using the "deb" packages Here (on hp.com) I can't find the drivers in the "support & drivers" section for my card.

I can't use internet without WiFi (I write this message in windows).

Can someone help me? Thank you.

Sorry, but HP will not support your product because they don't sell you a laptop with Ubuntu, this is why there is no Linux drivers on the site.

You have to go the Ubuntu forums and get help here.  I tried Linux in different versions and I find I always have problems with the wireless or something.  For me it crashes more than I worry about.

A reminder for you.  You know how most Linux forums will tell you that you will not have any antivirus software, etc., because according to them Linux is so sure.  Well, look at what is happening on the side of the phone, where Linux has a good market share, with Android phones.  There have been very few cases of virus and malware attack Linux it.  Don't forget, all this Linux security is security by obscurity.

So when you get to Ubuntu running, don't forget to download the security software for Linux also.

  • 500 - 516nc Pavilion: Pavilion that keep me from installing and running Linux

    Hello

I recently bought the Pavilion 500-516nc with preinstsalled of Windows 8.1. I was intending to set up a dual-boot for the computer, as the seller claims that this machine is suitable for a number of operating systems.  However, I can't install and run the operating system I want.

UEFI mode, the computer is not USB, or the DVD-ROM and does not offer to start from other sources, with the exception of the Windows boot loader, even after I disabled the 'secure' boot When I go to the legacy, I can actually run the other OS live USB or DVD and I can install it. However, the legacy would not boot from the HARD disk for some reason any (perhaps because the disc capacity is too large?). And I can't find a way to make the system work, I installed through legacy mode UEFI.

I would not return the unit to the store, because it suits me almost all the other senses, but this issue is a big problem for me. What can we do about it?

    Best regards.

    No452, welcome to the forum.

I ran the systems dual boot for years using Windows and Ubuntu, Linux.  The best way to do this, it uses two hard disks.  Windows do not play nice with the other OS' are on the same hard disk.

That said, if you want to install Ubuntu on the same drive, here's a guide that should help you:

I tried several Linux distributions and found Ubuntu to be the easiest to use.

  • HP G62 Notebook PC: Completely disable the secondary graphics card

    Hello

I have a HP G62 Notebook PC that I bought a couple of years back. The problem I have is that the graphics card of (the age AMD) to the secondary address has been damaged by hardware components (probably due to multiple disconnections of power and unexpected stops). Everything else works fine. This problem is causing Windows to keep crashing through the blue screen, or not to display a picture at all after the Windows logo while booting. I managed to install Ubuntu on it and the operating system detected the damaged graphics card and worked around it (aka he turned off the power to the graphics card damaged and worked only using the Intel graphics card). My question is, is it possible to turn off the graphics card AMD to turn completely (from the BIOS maybe) so that I can re-install Windows and work on it using only the graphics card Intel?

Please help, I'll provide more information if necessary.

Please identify your laptop with its full product name or product number. You gave only a partial identification so far. I need I can take a look at the BIOS Simulator to see if it was possible there.

Never mind providing the number or name of producty. I worked around it.

I just took a look at the BIOS Simulator and found that there is no option to turn off the graphics card it. You may be able to work around it by removing the card.

You can also replace the card with a card of the same work to find the switchable graphics feature. You should be able to find one to an online vendor at a reasonable price. If you don't feel able to do it yourself, then you can have the replacement carried out by a store.

What is Windows Home Premium 64-bit?

Have you tried to use the HP Support Assistant's to find the driver?

In Device Manager, right-click on the device Bluetooth (Personal Area Network) and select Properties. In the Properties window that opens, select the Details tab as in the picture and select hardware ID. Please any information resulting post here.  You will notice that I proposed two ways to locate the driver. Support assistant might be the fastest method at your disposal. The second method requires a little research on my part.

    Hello

Compatible processors for your laptop (and the replacement procedure) is detailed on Page 81 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Given the speed of your current processor, it would look like the first four are Ok - I always recommend to check this with HP first before buying.

  • If I format my drive and install linux, how do I install and activate my windows?

    * Original title: reinstalling Windows 7

    Hello

I bought a laptop recently, with a pre installed, activated windows 7. I'll be using linux for some time and goes back to Windows. If I format my drive and install linux, how do I install and activate my windows? And where can I get the source? In my laptop there is no serial number sticker. Its a laptop Lenovo b50-80.

Please do not suggest dual os.

Here's what I suggest strongly that do you before installing Linux, create a system image backup.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/24/how-to-backup-your-installation-of-Windows-7/

When you install Linux, then decide to go back to Windows 7 sometime in the future, you can just restore the image of the system.

    Hi read,

    You are welcome

Try a new installation of the flash plug-in as follows.

First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    Flash Player Uninstaller.

Once the download is complete, close all the browser windows, open your downloads folder and run the program uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the laptop.

Then (unless you already have it), download and install Firefox , then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash. Note: You can deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before download.

Close all browser windows before you run the installer of Flash.

Start Firefox and see if the videos etc. play Ok in this browser - if they do, close Firefox, open Internet Explorer and click on the same link Adobe Flash above to get a command prompt to install the ActiveX component.  Once completed, restart Internet Explorer.

  • How to delete windows and install linux?

I couldn't use my Windows 7 system more because spyware / adware kept interrupting me, and I couldn't remove it without having to pay $100 to upgrade the antivirus and spyware, so I decided to install Linux instead. How can I delete my system Windows and install Linux Debian?

Download DBAN (http://www.dban.org/) and won't burn it to a blank CD/DVD using ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) (in XP/Vista), no additional software required for Windows 7 or well make a USB bootable with Universal USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/)

Insert this device and enter the BIOs setup in the setup of the BIOs (F2 on the screen of the Bios Dell, a different key to the non-vallons), disable the card readers THAT DBAN otherwise does not quite. Starting the device (hold F12 for a Dell one for a non-Dell BIOs screen and then select boot from CD/DVD or USB respectively). Follow the instructions on the screen to eliminate completely all the data on your hard drive. Do this before installing Windows. Once it is a complete restart as a guest and then power down. When switching on maintain F2 to enter the BIOs setup, and then select the card reader.

This will have wiped your hard drives correctly.

Then install UBUNTU or similar do this by downloading their recent .iso and make a bootable USB drive or DVD and boot from it (F12 on the screen of the BIOs Dell or similar for another Dell) - follow the instructions on the screen and see if you like. http://www.Ubuntu.com/

You can also reinstall Windows 7 with latest Service Packs, more recent definitions of Microsoft Security Essentials & Microsoft Security Essentials, a decent free firewall like Sphinx Windows 7 Firewall Control and also Malwarebytes' Antimalware. A guide based on Dell, including links to download may be found here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/1434.aspx

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 47 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive.
