Game in the Games folder missing icons

I'm having a problem in the Vista Games folder.  I have a few games installed on my computer that disappeared from the Games folder.  When I went in the game files and moved the .exe file for the game in the Games folder all get is a copy of the file low ground.  Not the pretty picture with all the info of the game that others have...  I tried a lot of things and was always looking for a solution.  Anyone here have this happen to them and know how to solve the problem?

Install KB938194 and check if that nail...

Ciao.

  • Missing icons on the open file dialogue box

I am running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit).  All updates applied.

Problem: When you use the dialog box open file - some file/folder icons are missing.  Not that big of a deal, but introduce that dialog open file in an application they may crash.  I think this may be the cause.

Details: When I use Windows Explorer, everything seems as it should be in the Navigation pane.  For example, I see Favorites and Desktop under Favorites.  The desktop icon is correct.  Everything is as it should be.  If I open Wordpad, and then select file open, the dialog box is, once again, as it should.  All the icons displayed.  However, if I open Word 2007 and select the open file, there is a strange icon for the office and most of the other items under Favorites, some of my libraries display one appropriate icon, others do not.  In the right pane (where the files are listed), there are no icons for files at all, they are simply empty.  I can select the files, then open them, everything works, just no icons.  It is not only the Microsoft Office applications that illustrate this.  If I open the VLC media player, select media, open a file.  I have the same thing (missing icons).

I could live with that, but it seems to cause some applications (applications specifically Flash) to hang when I try to open the files.  For example, if I try to upload a photo to Snapfish.com using the Flash application, it crashes every time than IE when the open file dialog box opens.  Exactly the same happens using the Chrome browser.  Everything works fine as long as I do not open the open file dialog box.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Hello Jonathan Moeller.

There are a few additional troubleshooting steps that we could proceed to isolate or fix this problem.  Just to inform you beforehand, if in fact it is malicious viral content on your system or base operating system files are potentially corrupt. I might suggest a repair installation.  This would be the last option or suggestion.

-Open the prompt (run as administrator) and type SFC/scannow

-Create an another user account (Admin) and check if in fact you are still having this problem

-Turn your computer into a cleanboot scenerio to isolate if a 3rd party service is potentially the first cause of this issue.  Here are the steps...

Step 1: Open the System Configuration utility

    ClickStart

type msconfig in theSearch box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

Step 2: Configure selective startup options

    1. in theSystem Configuration utility dialog box, click Selective startup on thegeneral tab.

2 clear theLoad Startup items check box.

Note The check boxuse the Boot file is not available.

    3. click on theServices tab.

    4. Click to select thehide all Microsoft Services check box.

    5. click ondisable alland then click OK.

    6. When you are prompted, clickrestart.

-In addition, please try to rebuild the indexing function.  Here are the steps...

    1. go into the Control Panel.

2 display All the items from Control Panel by changing the parameter display by in the upper right corner of thelarge icons or small iconscategory.

    3. Select Indexing Options.

    4. click on the Advanced button.

    5. when the UAC prompt appears, click continue.

    6. in the Troubleshooting section, click on the button to rebuild

-In addition, each local user account have their Iconcache.db file or database is located at c:\users\Username\appdata\local\iconcache.db.  Please remove this file.  However, it is preferable that you simply follow the steps below.  Everything must be simple to follow.

Re-create the file icon-Cache by deleting

    1. Each user has its own file named Iconcache.db: USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Iconcache.db
    2. Close all the explorer.exe process using the Task Manager (or else it will create a bad file during the closing session/restart)... Go to the processes tab and locate explorer.exe and right-click on it and select end process tree tree/end of tasks
    3. Use the Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC) to launch the explorer.exe again... Once you open the Task Manager, click file, new task.  type 'explorer.exe '... All of your icons should reappear with the taskbar.  You may need to shut down or restart your computer.  Please check if you are able to see your icons with success.

If you please follow on this thread at the earliest, I would be very happy.  I look forward to hear from you.  Have a great day.

    Thank you

  • Strange "ghost" icons that cannot be manipulated in the Games folder.

In the Games folder, when I try to delete a shortcut in there, I often get a strange icon which can not be deleted, move, read properties, click right, etc. Hard to explain so linked an image of the window here:

    http://I132.Photobucket.com/albums/Q25/satsum/gamesfolder.jpg

The icons in question are for Alien Swarm, Civ V and torchlight.

Can someone help me get rid of these icons?

Edit: Also went to %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games and removed the shortcuts. No change. It should also be noted that all 3 of these listed shortcuts have been downloaded steam.

    Hi, Chris T,.

    1. have you tried to remove the icon of the game, safe mode?

First check if you can remove the icon of the game in safe mode.

If the previous step fails then suggest you scan the computer for any malware or virus infection.

The scan below only works on the 32-bit version of Windows

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

You can use the Microsoft security essentials to scan your computer

  • Records in the Games folder

Is it possible to create folders in the Games folder to help organize games

or do I just create folders in the start menu and organize in this - special folder Vista Games to forget?

    Karl

    it_bee_me,

You cannot create a folder in the game window. Think that this window is just a place to drag shortcuts to the games you play. Vista will find some games and any other game you want to add here, that you can simply drag the icon in the start menu.

    Thank you

    Hello

You have the I386 folder on your hard drive? Check it under local drive C: or C:\winfows (for this, you may need to activate show files and folders of the control panel->-> view-> select Show hidden files Options of the files and folders-> uncheck Hide protected files operating system-> Ok locate).

If you have this folder you just need to change the source path in the registry:

    Click Start-> run, type &-> regedit-> ok.

Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE-> Microsoft-> Windows-> CurrentVersion-> Setup-> right side Double -click on the source path-> enter the location of the I386 folder. (If remember the folder is local disk as C:\i386 simply enter C:\ if your i386 folder is under c:\windows\i386 then simply enter c:\windows).

Repeat the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE-> Microsoft-> Windows-> CurrentVersion NT

If you can't find a i386 folder, try to download the SP3 from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24

  • Why not a game show upward into the Games folder more?

On the first computer, I installed Windows 7 on (there are two facilities), The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion appeared in the games on its own folder.  After the death of the mother of the computer, I installed Windows 7 32 - bit on a new computer, andoversight were not included in the games. I had to add manually, and it would download album cover nor does not endorse the links.  I am now on a third computer, Windows 7 64-bit and oblivion did not appear in the Games folder (although his predecessor,Morrowind, a).

Y at - there a rhyme or reason to this, and then I manually fix the problem?

EDIT: actually, I have a similar question on another game. The game itself did not appear, but the expansion pack has.

    Hello

Most of the new games generally automatically appear in the Games Explorer folder when you install on Windows 7. However, some previous games may not appear
in the Games folder, and in this case, you will need to manually add the shortcut of the game in the Games folder.

  • Corrupt the game folder

    My PC:
    Win 7 ultimate N 64-bit
    Intel i7-860
    8g RAM
    1 TB HARD DRIVE

    My problem:
When I try to manually add a link to the game folder by dragging the .exe file or a shortcut to the folder nothing happens.

Initially I had AOE III, Fallout 3 and other games installed. They worked perfectly and has appeared in the "Games" folder in the start menu.

I went to open today and the AOE III and Fallout 3 had disappeared from the folder 'games '. All other games are always present and working.

Currently, I can always hide and restore the hidden games. Microsft update can add files in the game folder. He did so today by installing an update for windows live games after that this problem occurred.

I noticed that in "start > all programs > games" pointers to the Games folder all files appear with their targets, with the exception of AOE III and Fallout 3 "» When I click with the right button on their respective folders and go to properties there is an empty space for target. That's because their goals do not exist in the folder of the game, and there is no shortcut.

The games in question are still installed and work properly otherwise.

I think that this problem is related to a corruption with the game folder.
Rights at least pointers to the files .exe for the game, possibly in writing for the program which prevent the user additions.

Ive tried to find the solution but I've hit a wall.

    Hi Elian152,

You can run 2 methods to check whether the problem is resolved.

    Method 1: System Restore

Check if the games are listed in the Games folder, after the restoration of the system

Follow the steps in the link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

    Method 2:

Create a new user account and check if it helps.

    To create a user account

    1. to open user accounts, click the Start button, select Control Panel, click user accounts and parental control, and then click user accounts.

    2. click on manage another account.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    1. click on create a new account.

2 type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.

For more details follow the link.

    Create a user account
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/create-a-user-account

If the problem is resolved after you have created a new user account, you can fix the damaged user account.

Follow the steps in the link to fix the damaged user account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

Original title: load error when you try to load Halo 2

People at Microsoft, I have a problem trying to load Halo 2 on my dv7 Paviliaon with Vista and the 2.8 GB Intel Centrino 2 processor. When I try and load the game, I get and error stating: "the files are missing or damaged in the installation directory. A few important files required to run this game are missing from the installation directory. "It bothered me for several reasons. One: the disc that I use is an original disc out of the box so hsould have no problem. Two: the game has been loaded previously on the same computer without apparent problem at the time. It has been deleted (don't remember why) and when I tried to reinstall, the error came. Three: I did as recommended and updated all programs and drivers, nothing works. So my question is, how do I reinstall Halo 2 and what this problem will arise if I decide to buy and load Halo 3?

Thank you for your time in advance.

    Hello

If you want to see all the games, you must open the games in the start menu.

This is because they are stored in a library, not a folder.
