GeForce GTX 980 TI

Aspire Acer Predator 605 G3

GPU: GeForce GTX 980

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30 GHz

Memory: 12,00 GB of RAM (11.92 GB usable)

Driver version: 353.30

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro

I'm sure it's a 500 + power supply that exists in the required power supply for a Geforce GTX 980 TI would be a more than 600 or 650 +, but after doing some reading, the statement was made when it was said...

then I went out and bought a power supply 650 and the Ti-980. It turns out that this Acer pc uses some stupid 12 pins that doesn't use any other pc.

I assume that the connector is used to SUPPLY rather than the GPU, so be it we have a PSU that fits directly in that I can use a GTX GPU 980?

Hello Durand1981,

So here, the background comes down to this: use Gateway (now owned by Acer) connectors owners 12v for their motherboards. This connector is unique to their products and creating a very difficult environment for those who choose to upgrade their PSUS.

However, despite the difficulty of work around the exclusive wiring, there is a solution to this. It comes in the form of a DYI rewiring to set an adapter to make a 24 pins ON the connector that is compatible with the 12v rail. You can follow the instructions here if you want to explore this option.

I personally recommend getting a new motherboard to complete your new GPU to make sure that no problem of compatibility - Although this might cancel your license OEM Windows OS. It is the easiest, although the most expensive solution, but it also provides an extra layer, ensuring that your system is ready for future upgrades and downtime than this mobo owner + PSU combo almost forbidden.

Looking to upgrade my Pavillion H8-1221 son with a better graphics card, currently it is running an EVGA geforce GTX 660 and we are looking for upgrade to GTX 980 it.  I was wondering if this will require an upgrade mobo as well or is the OEM card sufficient to manage this card.

    Thanks much for any help.

    SonicRising, welcome to the forum.

I don't think that the video card will work on his computer.  980ti GTX requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS.  The only BIOS update that is available is to win 8.  You will need to update in 8 Win.

Regarding the upgrade of the motherboard, HP has their motherboards manufactured to their specifications.  Therefore, you must buy a Board that has holes that will correspond to the accessory in the case.  In addition, connectors can be owners, and may not correspond to those of the species.

  • Device not recognized in Alienware graphics (GTX 980 Ti, AW 15 R2 2016) amplifier

    Hello world.

I have a problem with my Alienware graphics amplifier and Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming gets, connected to my Alienware 15 R2 (Windows 10). I will describe the situation, and then include the details of the product later.

Please note that the graphics card does not fit in my AGA, with gets fans, making the map too thick for the lid of the AGM close properly (it bulges on the side where the card is). I'm currently running by opening the lid of the AGM. Also, the AGM is not connected to any external screens, only to the AW15.

When I run my AW15 without the AGM, it rolls with the edge GTX 980 M. I can play Rainbow Six seat (the only game in the testbed to date) to Max settings no problem.

When I plug the AGM + the 980Ti and implementing power, things happening:

    • The entire system (AGA, AW15 + 980Ti) starts turning the power on. Everything turns on, the AGM fan spin, spin gets fans. He reached the first screen with the Klipsch brand image on it.
    • After a few seconds, the system stops. No lights except for the brick power connector and all fans of die down.
    • Another couple of seconds pass and the powers of the entire system to the top. This time, she continued turning the power on.
    • He stops at a black screen prints ' device not recognizedin amplifier graphic Alienware.» Graphic Alienware amplifier supports only NVIDIA or AMD Graphics cards. Press any key to continue...'.»
    • I press a key to continue. I even let it rest at this screen for about half an hour, with no difference.
    • The system will continue to boot normally, and I'm finally 10 Windows Home.
    • Look in the Device Manager recognizes two display devices: the Intel HD Graphics and the edge GTX 980 M.
    • The command AW Center indicates that the AGA is connected. It is said that external GPU is disabled, the internal GPU is on. I am able to play with the color of the light of the AGM.
    • The AW15 works and runs normally with the GTX 980 M edge, just as without the AGM.

I'd appreciate any help to resolve or understand the problem. Thank you very much for your time. ^_^

  • GeForce GTX 970/980 on XPS 8700

Hello, I have XPS 8700, which came with OEM GTX 745. I think it passes to the Geforce GTX 970 or 980. These word on 8700 XPS video cards?

I am particularly concerned, because system recommended for 970 power is 500 W to nVidia's specifications, total power of XPS8700 is 460 w. Has anyone installed GTX 970 or 980 on 8700 XPS?

    Hey Ryocchin,

The GTX970 or the GTX980 will work in terms of being able to connect through PCI-express port.  Where you might encounter a problem is with the physical size of the map.  I know that some 970 models can be 12 inches, I guess the 980 years can grow according to the solutions of cooling for these exotic cards.

The other piece of the puzzle is to replace the power supply.  A 460W pourrait be authorized as a basis of suppliers GPU their system requirements on the assumptions made about the power draw of the entire system & always shoot a bit on the high side.  But if your computer is a few years old is probably not turn off 460 watts.  So I recommend a new power supply.  EVGA, Corsair, XFXm and Antec have all been good for me over the years.  If you want to simulate a modular PSU that you'll save tangles of cables.

So those are the two big things to look for: physical space for the graphics card (although I'm sure that a XPS8700 will hold a 970 without problem a lot) and a new power supply.

The Dell service manual is here if you want to get an idea of what it looks like to replace components:

  • GTX 980 and no splash screen

I have a ti GTX 980 flashed running in a Mac Pro(on external power) 2010. It shows only a splash screen, however, so I attach a No 4 k monitor DVI port. Monitors Dell P2415Q 4 k (except for a random time) show no video until the initialization is complete. This means that I must keep an old DVI monitor on all the time to get not only the splash screen but even to get any video output at all on end of startup. Without a monitor DVI the Dells don't show any video and go mode 'sleep'. Bootcamp Windows 7 displays the same behavior. Any ideas?

How the P2415Q is normally connected? If you try HDMI then try rather Displayport.

If your card was flashed did buy you it from MacVidCards? If so, ask them for assistance.

  • TI GTX 980 on external power

It's smarter to run the 6 pin and 8 pin on the GTX 980 TI off external power supply, or is it better to run the six pins in the internal power supply and PIN 8 of the external power supply?

Users say it is best to run all the form of power to the same source.

  • Cursed GTX 980 TI

My GTX 980 TI flashed by Mac Vid cards is cursed. First of all, it does not start at all when connected to the internal power supply which is not the norm for this card. Then, once current running on external power, he started with web Nivida KP drivers listed as number one in track and a large number of references following Nvidia or Apple IO. The newspaper KP read almost of the same save whether or not it was CPU 0 or a CPU who initiated the panic.  Time to start the carillon was 30 seconds. Now it does not chime at all. It crashes just in POST. On a PC machine I pull the card, reset the ram and shoot all the other cards. Would probably uninstall and re-install the drivers. My PCIe slot configuration has the GTX in track 1. A map of blade OWC E2 SSD in slot 2. A 4322 Rocketraid in location of three and a Sonnet USB 3.0 card into the Groove 4. This configuration works very well with the original ATI HD I'm too slow card. Any other ideas?

  • GTX 980 TI still does not work

I bought a GTX 980 TI knowing that I probably would feed the 6 and 8 pins externally. I thought it would work at least to normal loads while I built a more elegant solution. No dice. The machine just clicks and dies. I got a new PSU ATX modular power and jumped the Green and soil and can turn on the power. When I turn on the power supply with it connected to the 6 and 8 pins on the map, however, the power does not depend on it self. What gives? I found a PS jumped fastest way and dirty to power a card like this on the outside. PS won't even turn. Does anyone know if someone is always selling a solution mini itx 5.25 which can automatically detect and goes into the 5.25 Bay?

I'm agree that normally one would expect this card to always allow to boot but would struggle at full load with just built-in power.

  • HP Pavilion h8-1132sc: Geforce GTX 960 works do not with h8-1132sc model? (BIOS?)

    Hey.

I just bought a new graphics card (Geforce GTX 960) for my computer. After replacing my old and my pc startup, I'm stuck at the blue HP screen, with 1 beep and then 3 beeps and nothing happens.

I can google myself to, many people speak the BIOS (I upgraded to 7.12), but it still does not...

    Anyone?

    Taxbo, welcome to the forum.

Your problem is, the 960 GTX requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS.  HP didn't start using UEFI until mid-October 2012.  There is no way to upgrade the BIOS in the UEFI.  The last video cards that does not need UEFI are the GT of 640.
