Get the message that my Windows 7 can be counterfeit

After 5 years earlier to have Windows 7 installed on this computer, I have a message saying that it is not authentic.  Then, I get a window asking me to validate, but the "run" box could not check the origin.  I know that this is a valid software, since I got directly from Microsoft.  What should I do?

Andre:

Thank you for that comprehensive answer.  Unfortunately, it is too technical for me.  I made no changes to several months; This just today.  When I bought my laptop, it's VISTA and since Windows 7 has been out in a month or two, I got Windows 7 for free and it has been downloaded directly from Microsoft.  It was 5 years ago, and I had no problem until today.  When I tried to validate as requested by the system of the "run" box says that he could not verify the sender, so I stepped back.

Any ideas? Remember, keep things simple.

Thank you

Carol

Carol, I suggest following the instructions of the phone.  Just stay silent as the voice of the computer asks you questions, and finally you will be asked if you want to be transferred.  Answer at this time, with, "Yes!"  Explain your situation to the operator and he or she will give you probably a very long code to enter to get through activation.  I just did all of this with great success, but I'm still puzzled why I had to go through this in the first place
