Groups WSUS

Hello

I'm setting up a WSUS server and have a question about groups and their layout. I wonder if you need to create a few groups for servers, but do not know how to define. Must they be broken down by operating system as a group for Server 2008 and 2012 server or Server Standard importance and critical servers (AD). Also with the test/server machine test servers group should have installed AD to test to see if the patch has an effect on that or is this excessive?

Thank you

  • Tasks of installation of WSUS 2012 Server Message fail - access denied

I couldn't find the right place to post this.

I have a Windows Server 2012 who was executed on this WSUS.  One day, it just stopped to receive updates.  Several attempts to make it work again failed, so I uninstalled WSUS and re-installed.  WSUS installs correctly, but the post installation tasks continue to fail.  I tried to install via powershell without success.  I went to group policy (Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights\Log on as a service) and added IIS_WPG, NETWORK, NETWORK, SERVICE, NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICE SERVICE.  Then did a gpupdate/force.  I specifically gave full control in the folder C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.3019\Temporary ASP.NET to the SERVICE NETWORK.   The error I get now is:

The name of specific file App_global.asax.3ioozbcx.dll does not exist at this place, I guess because the NETWORK SERVICE does not have access.  However, just for fun. I made sure that NETWORK SERVICE has full control for this folder, and - trial - I gave everyone full control this folder.   I still get the error.

Please help as I have come to an end.  I'm ready to set up a new server and install WSUS on that.

  • Problem with WSUS after upgrade of SQL and SCCM

A few years ago, we implemented SCCM 2012 R2 on a virtual machine running Server 2008 R2 (Enterprise), using 2012 SQL for databases.  We use it for software deployment, updates/patches via WSUS and imagery of the network.  Everything is smooth enough for most, even if we hit a few snags Windows 10 points when that came out.  After you install the patches and updates to our Server 2008 box to make it compatible with Windows 10 content, everything was good again.  A few weeks ago, I decided to update our version of SCCM 1511 and SQL for 2014.  After the two updates, I tested imaging and software deployment, and everything seemed good.  I forgot WSUS, however... and later visited account it was not working properly for these updates.  Unfortunately, I realized after I deleted the VM snapshot, I got to thinking that everything was good (stupid, I know).  After researching and discovering some of the errors were permissions associated with - why would have changed the permissions on folders of SQL and SCCM upgrade I have no idea - those who have since been smoothed.  Now, my mistakes seem to be related SQL more and I hit a dead end with research.  When I opened WSUS and go look at the clocks, he tries to load the history of synchronization, and after a few minutes-error with the following information:

The WSUS administration console failed to connect to the WSUS server database.

Verify that SQL server is running on the WSUS server. If the problem persists, try restarting SQL.

I found a few forums that suggest to uninstall WSUS and delete the database, and then reinstall WSUS.  Unfortunately, when I try install fails... giving only an error code and no other explanation of why.  The error is 0 x 80070643, which is supposed to be due to the current user not having the "sysadmin" in SQL.  However, I have tried with several accounts I checked to make you have the sysadmin role in SQL (and are also part of the Administrators group on the server itself)-always get the same error message.

I would really like to try to find that rather than wasting his time with the construction of a new server and redo our whole SCCM environment... get the client reinstalled on all our machines to synchronize with a new server appears as a huge headache.  Is there anyone else out there who know what would cause this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Configuration of the WSUS Client locally

    Hello

I tried to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 and the installation was successful, I was able to receive updates from Windows Update. Now my question here is, we are a small organization and her we do not use ADDS (Active Directory domain Service) and all systems are in the working group. So I thought to set up each individual system manually to receive updates from our Local Server but, I couldn't manage to get a relevant document that has a game-by-step procedure to configure clients manually. Please direct me to the web link, or give me the procedure to configure individual Clients to receive updates from the WSUS server .

    The BONE, we run are:

    Windows XP Pro 32-bit SP3, Windows 7 Pro 32 - bit, Windows 7 64 bit Ent.

    Thanks in advance,

    RAM.

  • WSUS 3.0 SP2 and Windows 7 works only together... "unpublished".

good then it gives me a bit of a nightmare.

I have a 2008 r2 with WSUS 3.0 box setup; my vista and xp clients connect with happiness and go about their business update.

All Windows 7 clients in the Organization have failed. It comes to systems running the same SOE but also covers systems running manual install of Windows 7, this verisons them Professional and windows 7 32 bit Enterprise.

So it is a big business problem. I first tried all the traditional methods, such as installing manually windows update version 7.4.7600.226 agent on my clients windows 7, I simply get an error message stating "Setup of the Windows Update Agent met with a fatal error.

I tried to rename c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, then restart the service of wu. Honestly, I think that this issue is also that as the number of computers, it's also affecting.

I also tried to manually replace all files windows agent update 7.4.7600.226 on a windows 7 the problem with system. If I look at the WSUS console, he gets the change of 7.3.7600.16385 to 7.4.7600.226 version but it is not help me solve the problem. If I look in my WSUS console I see all XP/VISTA machines are running 7.4.7600.226 and they work perfectly. Windows7 machines ALL running 7.3.7600.16385 and all fail with '8008005' and showing the same problems in windowsupdate.log

On windows 7 clients if I try manually pushing an update, I get the error code ' 8008005' and in the WSUS console, he continues to show yet to be reported.»

I have included a summary of a file windowsupdate.log among machines of affect.

  • Monitor progress of deployment of WSUS

Hello, we just started to use the new wsus 3.0 for a month now and we will have a problem.

We have different groups of servers (windows server 2000, 2003, 2008) and a group of workstations (windows xp).

We want to update our work stations every weekend so we want that synchronize wsus to synchronize automatically with microsoft for new updates.

And we update our servers in a 6 week period.

When we update our servers, we want to see the status of the servers changing 0 updates that need, but each time new updates are in sync with microsoft it come new updates to the status of the servers with the necessary status, so we have not a clear vision of the status of our servers.

The solution that we currently use is to stop synchronizing between wsus 3.0 and microsoft, so we don't have a new need updates of our servers at the time of our update period 6weeks. The disadvantage of this solution is that our jobs will not be able to get new updates for a period of 6 weeks.

Our question is what someone else has the same problem and have a better solution for this?

    Best regards

    Fabian

  • Does WSUS / Windows Update Agent reinstall updates not installed

I looked for an answer to this all morning and probably I am suffering from block of the researcher and cannot choose the right keywords, but I can't find the answer.

In our environment - Server 2003, WSUS 3.0, XP desktop computers - we have finally approved XP SP3 for client machines and had some problems and some a few machines requiring to uninstall SP3.  Is WSUS / Windows Update Agent try to reinstall the service pack again at the next scheduled update (detection as absent but approved), or he knows that he was already installed once and then uninstalled and do not try to install it again?

If this is the first, how can I let SP3 approved for the rest of the Organization and prevent its installation on machines that have yet to be addressed, short of creating a new ORGANIZATIONAL unit for them?

If it is the latter, how can I say get to install at a later date once we have addressed the issues?

After you download updates on a Windows XP PC to WSUS server, is it possible that the remote PC can "ask" his updates to install? Rather than set a deadline in the WSUS server.

On our WSUS server, I download updates for the PC group, but didn't set a deadline.

We want to do is launch a script/application to install updates.

  • Problems force the wsus updates to clients

Hi there I just installed my wsus and work very well and pick up all the PCs on the network but I can't force the updates down to customers. I created my gpo and all pcs and get the Group Policy object, but updates are not realized from wsus. any ideas that I can check?

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

  • Question solve the WSUS on VPN server

    Hi all

I have 18 sites connected by cisco SA520 is our main office through broadband connections. I can ping my main server at the remote locations. I of the GPO that is written in my XP SP3 of remote computers by telling them the name of my server of wsus http://my-server but they don't connect to the wsus for updates windows server. When I open an IE window on a remote computer and type in http://my-server get the administration page of Cisco A DNS error occurred while opening the page.

The Cisco device is a DHCP server, has my office main DNS and IP addresses in the network settings on the WINS servers. Clients get the DNS and WINS entries on remote sites to my main site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Willis

With the FULL domain name, you still receive the error DNS and the Cisco management page?  When you do a nslookup check what address IP it solves in and this is the correct IP address of your wsus Server?

This server is NAT'ed on the outside?  Is this a separate machine or WSUS reside on the domain controller itself?  Do you have other services such as sharepoint installed on the same server?  Have you installed WSUS on a port different for example 8530?  Did you modify the entry of WSUS IIS host header?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294382

    http://www.wsuswiki.com/WSUSServerFAQ

    Check the WSUS port: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632477.aspx

Make sure that WSUS is assigned an IP address in IIS.  Make sure the port 80 443, or 8530 are open in the firewall.

Of what you mentioned earlier, it seems to resolve the address to the address of the ASA which is why you get the Cisco administration page.

A remote client, perform an nslookup check and make sure it is resolve correctly.  If it is to do a tracert and check she was going through the tunnel.  After a running-config rubbed.  Also, in the GPO, you can only use the IP address of the server ex: http://10.10.10.15 or http://10.10.10.15:8530.

Is this the only DNS problem that you are experiencing?  Group Policy is being processed correctly?  Have you checked for any additional errors eventvwr.exe?

  • Windows 7 Upgrade now having problems WSUS

We have recently upgraded to a large number of computers to Windows 7 using Mirage and I noticed that they receive are more updates from our WSUS server.  We use SCCM 2007 R3 and have supplied the base layer, such as recommended in the administration guide.  In fact, SCCM is healthy - deployment of the sequences of tasks without problem, and EFF gets its updates.  But the regular Windows updates fail when attempting to use our update server (you can pull updates directly from the internet without any problem.  The two main issues are the error messages:

Cannot read the current policy of WUA resulting. Error = 0 x 80070002

    and

WUHandler.log - group policy settings have been replaced by a higher authority (domain controller) to: server and policy NOT CONFIGURED

We have worked for several days with Microsoft, but did not get very far.  While line indicates a problem with the GPO, but these machines are in the same places in AD as machines for work.  100% Mirage updated machines see the error against 0% for traditional desktop computers. We spent hours to block inheritance of the GPO and play with local policies, but nothing helped.  We also reinstall SCCM and rebuilt WMI and update the window.  We are gradually loss and appreciate any advice or suggestions.  Here is the more detailed error:

    UpdatesDeployment.log - error (0 x 80040692) Job received for mission action ({D20B79C2-AB3C-4427-A35C-83C536C6E48E})

    Updates are not available

WUHandler.log - group policy settings have been replaced by a higher authority (domain controller) to: server and policy NOT CONFIGURED

Failed to add the Source of update for type WUAgent (2) and id ({2511F305-ED9F-4F6B-9E22-97834E297464}). Error = 0 x 80040692

Its a Source type Update WSUS ({2511F305-ED9F-4F6B-9E22-97834E297464}), adding

Cannot read the current policy of WUA resulting. Error = 0 x 80070002

Activation of WUA managed server strategy using the server:

    Thank you!

We were able to understand it.  It seems the registry HKLM\software\Wow6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate key has not survived the conversion to a base layer (or maybe the application of the base coat when we went from machines).  Export this key to a working machine and import it then in a broken solved our problem.  A big thank you to the Diag WSUS Solarwinds tool, that makes us in the right direction.

  • VUM vs WSUS

    Hi all

I would like to know if anyone here ever deployed responsible for the update of VMware in production environment, assuming that the virtual machine in the host / datacenter is all windows, which one to choose VUM or WSUS? It would be awesome if someone can share your experience in this case.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    AWT

WSUS is much better than VUM.  VUM is good for one or two virtual machines, but WSUS can integrate AD, machines that are automatically added to the group policy will be able to start getting updates without intervention.

WSUS is by far much easier to manage.

  • When I send a mass text by enabling / disabling message group, then I turn on message group, suddenly became a group text responses?

When I send a mass text by enabling / disabling message group, then I turn on message group, suddenly became a group text responses?

I sometimes send jokes or notifications to multiple contacts.  After I mass text them by activating / deactivating iMessage and Group Messages, then I switch on iMessage and Group Messages - will people I sent a mass text message can see phone numbers and the responses of the other?

I think it should not because after sending the text it comes just up on their phone as a text message you only, but I want to just make sure

    Thank you

    Hello Eddie7777,

Thanks for your post. I understand that you wanted to confirm if a mass message will convert to a group message after activating again Group Messaging. I certainly understand wanting to send a mass text message without launching a group of crazy message where number of all is shared. I'll be more than happy to help clarify.

I tested on my iPhone, and so my previous knowledge on the messages, I discovered some great information. When you send a mass text with disabled group messaging message, it sends the messages individually and these other people only get a text without your mass SMS numbers. When you have enabled messaging group once again, it won't change the message on their end, and if they say it will for you.

    Hope this helps explain things!

    Take care!
