Grub rescue

I deleted the partition 12.04 linux on my hard drive. Windows partition 8.1 is still there, but after the removal of the linux partition, I rebooted the pc and just a black screen with error->

error: unknown file system.
Grub rescue >

I know that this problem is solved by repairing the window start but I can't do it because I don't see my selection of boot or f2 and f12 option. If the boot drive does not load .i also have disk bootable linux and windows.
Please help solve this problem.

Finally found the solution after tring very hard. Its small with different and dangerous, but worked 1000% for those who has the bios bricked or who did not enter the bios and want to recover the bios key like f1, f2, f10, f12 etc.
Thankx for your support and for your valuable answers.

    Hello

You can download the Setup from the Microsoft page of WIindows disk:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310994/

Then you could install the Microsoft recovery console that helps you use the commands * Fixmbr and Fixboot * to fix the Boot Manager:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/307654/

I think this should help other rational use the Live like BartPe or WinPE disc to boot up the laptop.

  • HP Pavilion a4317c: ISO Boot help

So today, I decided to remove Ubuntu in my dual boot(the other being Windows 7) and I rebooted, but I needed a key USB bootable or a CD with Windows 7 ISO. I didn't either so I downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 from a site on a USB and tried to start but I'm left with:

    BOOTMRG is missing
    Press any key to restart

    error: no such partition
    Switching mode backup...
    grub rescue > _

It would be in the command line. I guess that the ISO is a bootable, I downloaded from here: http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/
If it is not bootable, can someone guide me somewhere to make it bootable or a bootable ISO file?
I have a valid Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 key if anyone is curious.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello

I suspect that the ISO image is corrupt.  Try the ISO from this site.

  • Errors in the world when you try to reinstall Windows XP on a new hard drive.

    Original title: errors everywhere!

    Hi all:

I recently bought a new hard drive (seagate momentus xt) for my older PC toshiba M70 laptop. I tried to re - install Win XP on the recovery disk (which came with the laptop) but I got a black screen with cursor. I repeated the collection, same thing. To check that all was well with the disc, I scanned and then installed ubuntu 9.04 it work perfect! What is interesting is that in the prior installation, he showed that win xp has been installed on the disk. Then I tried to re - install win xp - then I got this error Grub 17... I went back with the facilities and now I'm at a point where I get a message "error: unknown filesystem grub rescue >" (after the installation of ubuntu 11.04, then windows again). I don't know what to do. What I want is my xp back, I can't get ubuntu. Help, please.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ARolle,

    ·         It is reinstall drive?

Method 1: Load default BIOS (Basic Input\Output System) settings, and then restart the computer. Make sure that you have the CD drive set as first boot device. Check the settings by consulting the manual or call the manufacturer to do so.

Note: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly.

Method 2: Try to boot from the CD and see if you can start the installation.

Contact Toshiba to get more information on the type of disc you use to reinstall Windows.

  • Windows 7 disc

    Hello

I bought my computer laptop lenovo (G550) about 8 months ago. I had windows 7 installed initially. Because of some virus, I had to install ubuntu. For the installation of ubuntu, I partitioned the drive C.

I've used ubuntu for several days, but due to the installation mono, my ubuntu has stopped working completely.

To uninstall ubuntu from my system, I deleted the partition (I'm guessing, it was the wrong way). When I rebooted the system it gives the error grub rescue. I don't know that it's because of the deletion of the partition.

Now my laptop does nothing except the display of this message. It is not in one of the OS.

To install the files of grub, I need windows disk 7 (it's what I learned about as a solution after doing research).

So where can I find a disc of windows 7, I'm not with my laptop. In addition, I plan format my Windows 7.

    Aarti

You can ask lenovo recovery disks, but they can charge you.

You can also buy micrsoft windows 7 installation dvd from microsoft.

because you made changes on the volumes, a key recovery will not work. If you have the warranty, I suggest shipping your lenovo laptop (they can collect) or you can delete all partitions and trying to install ubuntu instead of.

  • Windows 7 will be installed on Linux 14.04

After with "gparted" to put all the partitions to NTFS and then by removing all three partitions, I get the "grub rescue >" message, the error is 'no such partition  The hard disk must be formatted with a low-level format?  If so, how that would accomplish this?  I have a laptop ACER Aspire 7540, and I have a set of five discs with Windows 7 operating system.  I also have a drive with Ubuntu 14.04 and a drive with GParted.  Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction...

First time posting and hope I have the appropriate heading.

Use of tools for Windows.  Start the installation of Windows, on the first screen media press SHIFT + F10, or enter the Repair Console to access at a command prompt, run Diskpart Clean command to remove GRUB and all other start codes.

Then follow Clean reinstall Windows 7 for the steps, tools and methods to obtain and maintain a perfect installation.

So I had a Linux installation on my PC, but I had to go back to Windows. After installing Win8 I met an error at startup to the top:

The grub still seems to be on your system, even if you have formatted your drive. Because you have formatted your disk grub has been corrupted

  • Grub.conf and UUID disk address

    Hi all

We recently replaced a PCI enclosure in one of our IBM X series, ESX 3.5

update of 3 servers. Once the equipment has been repaired with this new case, the

Server would start where the grub & gt;  invite, leading me to believe it

had a problem with the file boot/grub/grub.conf.

I started from a HR rescue disk and examined the grub.conf file. The kernel

    command contained 'root = UUID = b53a8fff-3f05 - 4 d 22-bf7a-6ae1d022905d'. Replacement of

This hexadecimal string with the address of physical disk, / dev/sda2 enabled the ESX

    Server to start correctly.

Also located on the PCI card physical network adapters have been renumbered

of vmnic2 to vmnic32 and so on. This caused the virtual switches to loose connectivity to the

renumbered adapters have been mapped to the corresponding virtual switch.

    My questions are:

We need to find disk UUID for the new PCI enclosure address and

Change this value in the grub.conf stanza and if so why?

Do we need to fix the newly numbered physical network adapters back to

address to a single digit and if so, how?

What are the other impact substitute to this PCI enclosure?
