GX280 to transplant gx270s

I've depended on various configurations of the years gx270s and consider it a workhorse of a computer.  I have several of these boxes in various stages of boot.

Recently, a friend who always used a GX280 for some applications side had a motherboard failure. GX280 failure HARD drive seems to be very well and it has some irreplaceable apps on the system.

I know that these boxes were very similar, in my ignorance, I tried exchanging its system disk in one of my boxes of relief, without success.

So the question is, is it at all possible with some retouching to get a HARD drive GX280 system to start a gx270s?   If so where should I start?

DRM for information or ideas.

The chipsets are different enough that it's going to be difficult, if not impossible, to get this working, especially with Windows 7 or newer.  You can easily find a GX280 mainboard for between $20 and 50 online - it's the way forward rather than reverse engineering, a Windows installation.  You can set aside some tips depending on how long the system will be in use.

  • Rental short term for the Mac Pro Tower - transplant ramdisk hard

    Hello

I am a composer based in the United Kingdom and use round of mid-2010 Mac Pro 8 Core (2 x 2.4 GHz) Intel Xeon with 64 GB RAM and four SSD drives.

I am going to Los Angeles for a project of long months of work in July and need a same computer set up to use while I'm there.  It's too expensive/complicated to ship my computer to the United States, then I'll probably rent a machine in Los Angeles.

I found in a place that I can rent a tower 2012 Mac Pro 12-Core (2.4 GHz) with 16 GB of RAM, and I wondered: if I take my four SSD drives and my RAM modules, then I simply transplant these pieces into the 12 basic machine and start as my home machine?  Or must I buy an additional empty SSD and use the Migration Wizard to clone my main boot drive?

I've never done this before, so I don't know if the boot drive will recognize that it is connected to a computer with a different motherboard etc.

Thanks for any help and advice,

    Laurent

Change the RAM and the disc should be fine. I would take the sleds with your SSD and just slid the old sleigh and do drag in your.

    * Nothing * to do with Microsoft Windows, really.

One place of spec on (and to buy, actually) good memory of:

With the help of their memory Advisor...  I see...

    Type of memory: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non - ECC)
    Maximum memory: 4 GB
    Slots: 4

You actually have a floppy drive in your computer?  The solution will depend on the answer to this question.  If you do then it is defective and must be replaced, otherwise you will need to disable the floppy drive in the BIOS configuration.

The problem is that I don't know what CPU, graphics card and the hard disk is Compatible with my motherboard (computer)!

    My specs are:

OS: Microsoft XP Professional 5.1 build 2600

BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS v1.10 A03

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 running at 2.66 Ghz

    RAM: Mb 2174

Can you please tell me what CPU, graphics and hard drive can be put in this Dell OptiPlex gx270s?

I like especially the top processors of range (Intel i7 or i5), but computers that have it's expensive.

    Thank you

    QuattroBrain

    Hi QuattroBrain,

What form factor is your gx270s.

Your system does not support any i-series processor. Remember that your system is old, a few generations for the improvement of the performance will be limited at best. All new system, even a low, will run circles around your gx270s.

I just installed XP - sp3 on a Dell Optiplex gx270s. The sound does not work.   There is no symbol of "speaker" on the taskbar.

I went to Device Manager and clicked on sound - nothing appears.

I went to control panel and under sounds he says no audio device.

I so appreciate the help - THANK YOU.

  • Radeon 9600 Pro in a gx270s?

    I ordered a Radeon 9800 Pro, because I've seen this thread: en.community.dell.com/.../17363749

Well, the person of Amazon sent me the wrong card and it was a 9600 instead of the 9800.

The 9600, however, fits perfectly, the lights of the computer turns on and the fan on the card works, but the problem is that the PC is not appear on the screen at all.

So what could be the problem?

No it's not true.  The 9600 pro Mac edition works fine in a PC or a Mac.

The mac version of the map ONLY works in G4 and G5 Macs.

I have this card and a gx270s and it works very well. That's why its called ATI Radeon 9600 PRO PC & Mac Edition.

  • OptiPlex gx270s for Windows XP video drivers

I rebooted a boring optiplex gx270s with XP SP3 to replace another machine having for some reason to have XP on it (an old piece of equipment must be supported and has no drivers after XP).

In any case, I ran into problems that others have also and got through it, not seeing the network card or sound.   However, Device Manager does still no video driver.

When I opened the box, there is a Council of DVI that says:

    Silicon Image

Map of ADD sil 164 Carrera

    SIL - SC - 0034C Rev 1.3

Enter the number of inventory shows this machine originally shipped (guess that's the same still in the box) with:

    8M 206

Adapter, graphics, Digital video Interface, LPF-BRKT

Nothing else shows on the manifest of the video, but not sure how many configurations this box might be bundled with.  I really hate on port DVI port anyway as I have only something connected to the VGA.  I can install this driver if necessary but is really one does not like.

In any case, the XP Device Manager currently displays a yellow question mark for "Other devices" video controller (VGA Compatible).

Without a driver, I can not set the resolution what that went 640 x 480 (16 colors)

I tried to look at the list of drivers to guess the most appropriate one and I have tried the one below only because it didn't seem like a fix for something and he mentioned dual DVI/VGA in what is definitely what this box has.

    R253949.exe

    and it says:

    ATI 64 MB PCI-Express x 16 (DVI/TV-out) Radeon X 300 SE, 128 MB PCI - Express x 16 (Dual VGA or DVI) Radeon X 300, v.8.263.5.1 - 060607 a - 035600 C, A02 ATI 64 MB PCI-Express x 16 (DVI/TV-out) Radeon X 300 SE 128 MB PCI - Express x 16 (Dual VGA or DVI) Radeon X 300, v.8.263.5.1 - 060607 a - 035600 C, A02

In any case, running this program seems to basically just abandon (maybe because it wasn't the right one), but certainly does not solve the problem of not seeing a driver in Device Manager.  I even tried another install into a directory of the driver that was created.

Any ideas on what video driver must I use?   I can try them all, but have seen other posts about people getting into trouble when you use the opposite hole (vs DVI VGA) which became the 'active', one from the pilots.   Just thought I do it first.

    Thank you!

Silicon Image is not a card at all, it is a passage.

8M 206 is just an INTEL shipped to past DVI.

Hi Chris, your guide is HERENOTE from the ADMIN: broken link has been removed / replaced this post by Dell >

, and it is said that you have a 305wPSU and a PCIe x 16 slot for your graphics card. With that in mind, I would recommend the 9500GT, see HERE. If she says necessary 350w, manufactors overstate their power necessary for their cards, and Dell is understste power for their PSU.

  • HARD drive disappears after accidental factory driver reset in a Dell Opti gx270s [:(]

This is how my sound card, a Creative Labs Audigy Platinum decided to go missing in action. So I removed and installed a back upward. It does not solve the problem but it worked fine in another PC. I took and came back to the system of its integrated Realtek or something. It was a little confusing.  Soon I realized that it had been turned off in the BIOS. Well well, I was getting a little nervous about the State of things then I went to install a RW/CD-ROM drive so that I can get some criticism upward current, as I had learned how to integrate the operating system with all service packs and drivers of motherboard and everything to make it a perfect installation disc I thought I'd do adisc this and do a full backup of all the files needed, but I couldn't get any of the three DVD CDRW drives to work. I got the drivers for each permanent and I knew at least one of them was basically new, and all of them were in good condition. I couldn't get one of them to be recognized by the. Well, I'm not stupid, but I was under a huge strain of workload. I went online to get the factory drivers default to the gx270s and downloaded, but luckily it moments later I had this revelation... "It must be in the BIOS" I thought to myself, and of course, when I went to check, this is exactly the case. I made the necessary changes and as soon as I restarted with changes saved to the new factory default drivers BIOS came into effect, and he would not see the HARD drive and when I loooked in the BIOS, there is no HARD drive side although I had two connected to the SFF gx270s I've had for a decade. Any advice would be appreciated :'(]

If there is a problem with the IDE drives detected in BIOS, the problem has nothing to do with drivers. Indeed, the device drivers for your hard disk and DVD player are generic Windows drivers, so that they are almost impossible to mess up. The SATA controller driver is not a driver generic, but which would not impact on your IDE hard drives.
