HA - guests with local VMFS and SAN devices

I have 4 guests of u2 ESX VSphere DRS cluster and you want to enable HA.

The hosts have all VM on DAS and share SAN volumes.

The machine virtual on the DAS is non-critical test servers which will not need failover in the event of a host failure, but will the VM SAN.

My question is:

How will the HA react in this environment? There are toggled it can (the basic VM SAN) and ignore the das servers?

Havn't had any material to spare to test now

Thanks in advance

Exactly.  What can the failover is going.

    Hello

I have a discussion on the implementation of ha (failover) with 2 guests with local storage.

My advice is to go with a shared storage. But there is another view, use the cluster failover MS with local storage service to save on the shared storage hardware.

The HughesNet: have 2 virtual machines (SQL server and server applications in a highly available environment). The workload of the machines will be raised to 2 very powerful servers that are supposed to be buying.

    1. Please briefly explain a feature of local storage to provide HA.

    2. I got to cluster in the virtual environment, not so I guess that the shared storage is used only in the virtual environment.

    Thank you.

There is software that can replicate a running, physical or virtual machine to another accessible location on the network. This could be as simple that between two close hosted ESXi of VMS or high-speed WAN. Take a look at things like neverfail, doubletake others.  The costs would probably be a bit prohibitive in a smaller environment. It might be possible and maybe even practice to use a virtual storage device having a failover replication. Use of storage on each host and allows to provide the data store. Open-e

  • LabVIEW: Concerns with local Variables and the readability of the program

Hello everyone. I was hired for the summer to work at my University to a new laboratory. All right, but I have some problems with my main VI. I am a new user of labview coming from a C++ background. I went through several iterations of adding features, fixing bugs and doing my readable program. Before the last "cleaning" my program was so big that I couldn't see it all at once on my screen. My goal was to solve this problem. My solution contained three parts: use a state machine show parts of my code at the same time, to remove the son as much as possible, and use structures element to position my code manually.

I met since problems write other programs that brought me here, and I saw a series of messages condemning the new programmers for their use of local variables instead of cables. I do not know my use of structures element as fancy boxes I can exclude the automatic cleaning is also a terrible practice.

After doing some more reasearch on the subject I see local variables to add the duplicate in memory entries and their suppression can significantly speed up execution time. I have a delay programmed in a part of my code, but the rest can run as fast as he can as far as I'm concerned.

I have attached my main program. Looking at it I think I did a good job to make it readable. But I'm not a user expert labVIEW.

How to balance (do not use local variables, these structures element, etc.) efficiency and readability. Before you make these changes, there was so many things and so many threads all over the place that I couldn't even tell what was going on, and even less my teacher. I really wish I could see my entire program without scrolling on this computer of the laboratory (resolution 1280 x 1024).

Advice on how I can achieve the efficiency, simplicity and common readability would be greatly appreciated. I feel I've done the latter while sacrificing the first two. Ultimately the three should probably be equally important.

    Thank you.

As said altenbach, attach your event structures.  It should really be only need structure of an event, especially for a simple VI like that (I counted 3).  This is the second time I have recommended this today, but fetch JKI State Machine.  I use as the basis for most of my interfaces.

I always used to gparted to expand the vdisk, I don't think that you can recreate the partition as it already of the filesystems on it.  You will have to destroy the current partition and recreate if necessary.  Be very careful because this could result in loss of data.

Is there a reason you want to recreate rather than simply extend your existing partition?

  • Local storage and multiple ESXi hosts

Hi, I was wondering how vWorkspace manages local storage in an environment with a single server Vcenter and two ESXi, with a local data store each.

If I store a 'master' (I mean the gold statue) vm on the local storage of an ESXi, can replicate vWorkspace this virtual machine to the local storage of the other ESXi as Citrix VIAB?

If not, how can I use both my ESXi servers with local storage and maybe provide some sort of HA?

Am I forced to use a storage shared, if I want to be able to deploy clones related both to my ESXI?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Use vSAN, or no matter what virtual SAN Appliance as an iSCSI SAN storage to prosecute two storage facilities... You can replicate between the two servers and same LUNS are used by vWorkspace.

  • The upgrade of our guests 5.0 ESXi and vCenter Server 5 and 5.5 Enterprise Plus

We are the 4 upgrade hosts of ESXi 5 to 5.5

We add 4 more guests with own ESXi 5.5 installed

We are also upgrading our vCS 5 in the vCSA 5.5

    Using Enterprise + licenses

Question: I'm trying to understand the best way to achieve this transition.  4 guests run about 100 virtual machines and 4 guests we add are clean slates.

That's what I think... Please help me guys

    1. once the 4 new hosts are installed in the Datacenter clean running ESXi 5.5 I will deploy the vCSA ovf and register 4 guests with the Linux-based device.

    2. now, I have 4 new 5.5 ESXi hosts registered and running with vCSA 5.5 but I still have my old 4 guests with ESXi 5 and registered to the old vCS about 100 virtual machines running WIndows

    3. at this point I think stop on my older hosts 4 virtual machines and remove them from the vCenter Server inventory Windows and everything just their registration with the new vCSA

    4. Will be all my virtual machines or transferred with the hosts if I close them and put the hosts in maintenance mode?

    5. now, I should have all 8 guests registered with my new vCSA.  But the original 4 hosts have yet to be upgraded to ESXi 5.5

6 move 100 virtual machines to the new 4 hosts running ESXi 5.5 and upgraded the 4 former hosts.

    7. now, I should have 8 guests with ESXi 5.5 using the vCSA

    See you soon!

    Pretty much.

To make things easier, you can deploy the EGGS for vCSA in your current vCenter (if I remember correctly import an OVA using vCenter allows you to set certain options that should be set to the vCSA shell). After making sure that the vCSA online & configured, you can then install ESXi on all your new hosts, add them to a cluster in the vCSA and put a few trials of virtual machines on there to confirm the network setting is configured correctly. Once it's done (and assuming that the old and the new hosts use the same shared storage) you can stop the vCSA, remove it stock Windows vCS, please write it on one of your new hosts and turn on. You have now two environments (5.0 and 5.5). Next if you disconnect a host from 5.0 vCS (with virtual machines running on it), you can then connect it to the vCSA 5.5. Assuming that the vSwitchs standard networking of the exchanges that are the same name in both environments, you now can vMotion VMs between host 5.0 and 5.5 cluster. At this time, you can repeat with all remaining hosts until everything has been made the transition without service interruption. This will leave a lot of old objects in your old 5.0 vCS, but if that is getting trashed it isn't a big deal.

Currently, I don't have a forwarding server configuration and while he was trying to "verify" a virtual machine, it fails and cannot connect to the ESX host... Yes, you will transfer server. It act as a Web site that has stored the vmdk and allows the customer to local mode download and resume features. the forwarding server must be in the vcenter that is connected on the view connection server.

iSCSI is what it is...   You get wow numbers like you do on the DAS.

On the MD3000i?  We found it important enough to keep really hard hitting servers / vm / guest on LUNs dedicated and virtual disks.  The limits of 160MO iSCSI are sort by target where each lun is considered to be a separate objective.  On the MD3000i controller double load balancing is done by the virtual disk.   If you match a dedicated to a virtual disk lun and divide the VD upward between the controllers, the server's performance seems strong in production.  Still, you won't get the numbers of wow on the tests you get on DAS devices.

If you want really good performance on account of the VM?    Use the MS iSCSI initiators, even if we do not like this, tests proved much better performance in tests of IO.  In production?  you won't really see a lot of difference in my experiences.

  • a few questions about ESXi and SAN CF with HP P2000 G3

    Hello everyone!

I am new to ESXi and SAN, then I need help for her.

I have Encolosure C7000 system with 4 blades BL460c already installed ESXi 5.1U1 (HP custome ISO image). Everything works fine now, but I do not understand something:

-What is the management network which I use vSphare Client to connect to? It is a private network to manage ESXi servers what difference with VMnetwork used by Virtual Machines? Because I've set up an IP address for this connection manually, but it is of course separate with IP addresses, I used on Virtual Machines.

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

-When I install successful ESXi, I don't know how to start working with SAN. What should I configure P2000 before it be plugged into the SAN switch? Or I can plug it then config later? Because I don't see it on the ESXi server. And on the OS I installed on the Guest Virtual Machines, I see nothing new in Device Manager. Yes, it's a separate network used only for traffic management between ESXi hosts and vCenter - it is also the network used to connect to the environment - that's different, then the network used by your virtual machines

Yes the license keys can be reused, and if you use vCenter licenses will be managed by vCenter

Yes, you will be able to configure the San later - by default, the virtual machine will not see the SAn, as it is virtualized by your ESXi host - all the VM will see is a virtual SCSi disk - this doc's guide to vmware for storage - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-511-storage-guide.pdf - you can visit the website of HP they might have documentation on configuring P2000 for vSphere -.

  • synchronization: How can I store the mails for different accounts remotely and manually copy the most important e-mails in local folders on both devices?

Hello. I have two machines and two accounts, so what I want is this:
I want only to store mail from two accounts in a remote place and copy more important mails to local folders.

(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
             * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
             * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
             * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
              * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?

    Thanks in advance.

The first awkwardness that I see is that there is no clear format in which to store the messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the option "Local Directory" of the account in Thunderbird to point to a remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I've never tried, and I'd be nervous about what happens if the connection cannot be established, or if you happened to access it simultaneously from two different locations. The other concern is that mail stores are fast becoming big, and you would be forever download and download large files (several gigabytes). Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder that contains many messages separated as one big file, so there is no simple possibility of incremental changes to load up/down.

The idea of local folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, therefore they do not follow what is happening on the servers. I say this to emphasize the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), against copies cached files online ("synchronized"). It is not sure to consider your folders synchronized as permanent.

So folders synchronized on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird you do not have a local (although temporary and transitional) copy of messages. This is done primarily to avoid download repeatedly the messages if you re-read, and it makes the fastest search more effective. But these "synchronized" track of message that are deployed on the server, and so if they are deleted from anywhere, all devices that are synchronized at one point also see messages deleted endangered. (Except if you have saved a local copy on the local folders account).

I use a gmail account quite as much as you described; Copy or move messages to this account, so that they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my computer works. It's free, and it is "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is her private life. There are other suppliers (e.g. 1 & 1/gmx) who do not seem to have the fetish of collecting data that google thrives.

It's pretty simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your account "cloud." even better is to implement the translation of rules on the servers of other accounts, to ensure that your messages are automatically sent and waiting for you when you log in next time, already in the cloud account.
