Please save your files if you can still access it. Please test a HARD drive:

1. reboot the computer.
2. keep pressing the F10 key when appears the HP logo. This will take you to the Bios configuration utility.
3. Select the Diagnostics tab.
4. Select the option "drive hard test" and press ENTER to perform the test.
Note: This test can take up to 40 minutes or more.

Pass - the hard drive is not damaged.

  • Advice on hard drive recovery, 301 error

    Hi all

I have a PC HP Pavilion HPE h8 - 1170d which is about 2.5 years or older. The specifications are:

Intel Core i5 2500 with 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB SATA hard disk. I recently installed a graphics card Radeon HD6670 as the original card gave problems. I've also upgraded to a Cooler Master 500W power supply.

Other details of my PC are listed here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02991104

Recently, I have known failure linked with the hard disk, indicating error 301. I managed to collect enough (somehow) hard drive and now able to Microsoft to start up and run error checking tool. But I know I'll have to replace it because it's a matter of time before the disk dies hard completely.

Before I go and buy a replacement hard drive, I hope that I might know the following:

    1. I don't know what version of SATA is my PC using. Can I just specify I want a SATA hard drive and not worry about their version of the SATA?

    2. What is the best way to replace the hard drive from the software point of view? Can I make a copy of the image of my current hard drive, if yes, what is the best way to do it? Sorry, I didn't do this before if you need to ask this fundamental question. It would make sense to connect the new hard drive and then do the image?

Thank you very much for any help!

    smtan

    Hi smtan,

A SATA III, disc 6 GB data transfer rates will work.

Your PC model introduced by HP in 2011. He may have SATA II, but a disk SATA III will be backward compatible. If this is true, you will be limited to 3 GB transfer speeds.

Another consideration is the size of the HARD drive. You should probably limit the size of 2 TB HARD drive replacement. Your PC probably has a legacy BIOS and your HP Recovery disks may not work on a greater than 2 TB HARD drive.

You have a few choices on moving or installing Win 7 on your new HARD drive.

You can clone the existing installation from disc HARD original for HARD drive replacement. You will need to use either: free disk imaging software or buy this software. I heard good things about Macrium Reflect free and free EaseUS.

You can GOOGLE for other choices.

Install the disk imaging/software on the source of cloning HARD drive. Install the new disk on your PC.

Start the cloning software and follow the instructions on the operating system for the new HARD drive cloning.

See this article for instructions on cloning from one HARD disk to another.

This article may interest you. Consider buying a replacement SSD. The increase in performance is amazing. Many SSD manufacturers provide software cloning for the purchase. You can also buy the version of the office. This includes an adapter 3.5 inches for the installation of the SSD to 2.5 inches in the HARD drive cage.

There is a downside if you go SSD. Your HP recovery disks may not work because the replacement SSD will be less than 1 TB. There are ways around this. Please see this forum post on the installation of Win 7 without a disk. Let me know if you are interested.

  • Pavilion g4: hard drive 301 error

I had a hard drive error 301 in my hp pavillion series. I understand that the hard drive has failed. I had replaced with a new one. I would like to know if I could always back up my old hard drive or to recover my files if I run it in a disk hard slave in another pc? Is there another way I can get back my old files?

    Thank you

    DAY

If there is any life left in the drive, it is usually possible to recover some of the files. The simplest method uses a hard drive USB enclosure or a card. Then you plug it into a usb port on a computer to work and can browse the disc hard as internal hard drive. Copy files to the hard drive of the host computer.

    Hello

The error seems to indicate that the HARD disk is defective and must be replaced.

Your computer is listed as coming with a 500 GB hard drive, but you can also easily install a 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 59 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set by starting on the link below.

  • Replace hard drive on HP G72 information

Our HP G72-B27CL family has a failed hard drive and continues to give the following message "hard drive error (301).  After some reading online, I am aware that this means the hard drive turns off finally completely and that it should be replaced.  The hard drive, but we have currently is a 500 GB SATA 2.5 "with a no. 615085-001.

After looking around online and the service manual, it seems that I need to find the hard drive or a spare with no. 634921-001 hard drive.  Unfortunately, I have trouble finding online anyone who has these in stock.  Then, I can use any hard drive 2.5 "SATA, or do I need to follow these instructions part numbers?

Also, what is the correct sequence on the right disk creation to be able to reload Windows 7 new hard disk I have install?

Finally, I intend to update the WLAN Module (currently 802.11b/g/n Broadcom that overcomes to 72mbps) while I have my laptop open and put in an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 802.11b/g/n 1 x 2 Module WLAN.  This has a no. 593530-001 and seems to be compatible with the service manual.  Is this correct?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello:

I'm sorry that missed your question on the disc...

You can create a set of recovery discs on the way to your program of HP Recovery manager and click on the «Create recovery discs» menu

You will need to have several DVD available for the process and simply follow the instructions provided.

You can also order a recovery disc for your laptop by visiting the link below and clicking on the link that says "order of recovery media".

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?OS=4063&LC=en&cc=us&DLC=en&sw_lang=&product=4308562

For $31.xx, I would buy the Intel card.

If it says 150/300, then you should get 144 Mbps download speeds as I do.

Your Broadcom adapter is probably only a 150 MB/S card, that's why you found 72 MB/S connection speed.

I have a 150 Mbps card too (USB wireless adapter) and just 72 on that one as well

so, what can I do for this problem...

    Please tell me

    Hello

    Do a hard reset first.
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01684768

The SMART drive test produces a prediction on the risk of hard drive failure, not a real failure.

A warning to SMART disk error can appear for various reasons such as having been jarred abruptly computer or hard drive, be subject to the higher than usual temperature.

Perform HP hard drive - wide test of the system BIOS Diagnostics shortly after switching on, tapping F10/F2

If there are any Smart player or hard failure error you see, Hard Drive is a failure and the solution is to replace the drive.

It would also be very wise to make sure that you back up all your files etc as soon as possible.

    Thank you

  • New hard drive (301, 3F0 Messages)

    I recently bought a HGST 1 TB hard drive (2.5-inch, 7200 RPM) upgrade for my G6-2218NR Pavilion (8 64-bit Windows). My problem is that, from the start of my laptop, I got the message;

    "SMART disk error."
INTELLIGENT drive control hard to detected an imminent failure... etc."

I'm the given code 301 and the option of F2 for System Diagnostics, as well as "to continue booting.

If I select keep booting I get the following message 3F0

    "Boot Device not found.
Please install an operating system on your hard drive. »

If I select F2 I can run the memory Test and the check of the hard drive. I get a SUCCESS message after you run the memory test, but try to run check the hard drive, I get the message, "SMART Check: NOT AVAILABLE." "DST short: caveat."

Also, despite are not I can also access the utility of configuration with F10.

So, Ive got a few questions. First of all, is it possible for my new drive hard be DOA? Second, if it is not, how to re - install Windows 8? And finally, it would be prudent to put back the original hard drive in the laptop, until I have a solution?

YES, it's quite possible for a new disk in DOA. Download the diagnosis of HGST drive and create a bootable CD. Reinstall the 'new' hard drive and test it with the diagnostic CD. If it fails, return the disc to another.

If you have not already created it your personal set of HP or an HP Recovery USB Flash Drive Recovery discs, please return the original to the computer hard drive. Then create the support of HP recovery for your computer.

You will need to use the HP recovery support to return the computer to a factory state after installing a new disk.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • Hard drive error code 301

Can I replace/recover my hard drive after receiving the error message "drive smart error 301"?  I have a PC laptop HP G72-253NR, product # LG583UA. I received the error message and now when I turn on my system it will start not and will be automatically forwarded to the Startup Repair. Then, I get the message "a hard drive problem prevents Windows to start."  This leads me to believe that my hard drive failed completely.  My laptop is no longer under warranty and I need a quick inexpensive fix. Hello

The Smart 301 error would indicate the drive is defective and must be replaced - which is also consistent with the startup error.

Your laptop is considered to be coming with a 640 GB hard drive, but whereas there is little or no difference in the cost, you can just as easily install a 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - the player on the following link is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.

    750 GB hard drive.
