Hard drive crash, have no CD, they have a product key what do I do

My son gateway computer hard drive crashed. I'll have to buy a new hard drive.  I don't have vista or bridge or other recover CD.  I have the license of vista product key.  I don't want to buy a new copy of vista.  Gateway wants to charge us just to ask a question, since the machine is out of warranty.  Ideas, suggestions? Is there an ISO somewhere?  The machine was Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Thank you.

You don't need to buy a new copy of Vista; an unnecessary expense.

Follow the advice of Carey to communicate with the gateway: http://support.gateway.com/support/default.aspx

And read this:

Vista DVD:

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Or borrow a good DVD (not Dell, HP, etc.) Vista.
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

  • Wiping Hard Drive, Reinstalled with Windows 7 with upgrade disk product key error

My computer has been acting upward, so I back up hard drive and erased the hard drive with the BACK CLEAN ALL command. I then reinstalled windows 7 from my Windows 7 Upgrade disk and restore my files on hard disk. The computer works fantastic and returned half of the memory of the hard drive. A few days later, I get a message on the screen that I have 30 days left until I can produce a product key from the original Windows installation, does not accept the upgrade product key.

I tried the product key located on the bottom of my laptop for Windows Vista comes with the HP computer. It does not work and it gave me no disk backup for Windows Vista from HP.

I called Microsoft and they told me to contact HP for the product key. I see on this forum that someone else has written a similar plea, because it is a plea, and HP said to contact Microsoft. In other words, Microsoft says to contact HP and HP says to contact Microsoft.

I use Microsoft since Windows 3.2 operating systems and have bought a lot of products of them. It's my 3rd HP laptop, my wife is on her 2nd HP laptop. Well you know what? If I don't get this resolved quickly by one of your companies, and I'm not remember Microsoft, I'm through the two of you.

I don't see where Microsoft is not being fooled off but when it's to the detriment of a loyal customer, so don't worry. HP is also responsible for this. An upgraded version of Windows 7 (to upgrade from Vista or XP) should be smart enough (and I thought it was) to remember that I had the original version and its product key should be enough. Also I don't never told me that I had to keep the old product keys, and it doesn't matter anyway because the product key is always available in my laptop HP, but it does not work.

I'm not buying another HP without your help and actually buying an Apple Mac for my wife and my next computer if it is not resolved. I think that HP is probably as bad as Microsoft so that it will not be solved and I'm not shelling out more money for something I already own.

  • My hard drive crashed and I can't get in touch with Microsoft because they want a product id and the number I have is not working. Help!

I've had my laptop for several years and a week ago, the hard drive crashed. So, although I had all my photos and movies and other saved, I lost Vista. This wouldn't be a problem if I could find the disks that came with the computer at the beginning, but I've moved several times in recent years (college) and I can't find them. Anyway, I'm now trying to get in touch with Microsoft to get a new drive, but they won't talk to you unless you can provide a product key.

There is a product key on the back of my laptop, but their system apparently doesn't like it and so they're going to make me pay $ 50 just to send someone. Someone knows how to bypass the product key thing, so I can get a customer support?

    Thank you
    Chandra

    Hello

as vista came preinstalled Microsoft do not offer FREE support for this issue of yours. That is why the price of $50.

and they ask for a product ID, not a product key that you mentioned; but who has the same result; no free support

Product ID is completely different from the product key

your support is the manufacturer of your laptop; but feel free to ask questions on these Forums

I used to have xp media center edition 2005 on my pc until my hard drive crashed. I had to put a regular version of xp on my pc. I would like to put back the original version on it. is there one out there somewhere I can get my hands?

Unfortunately, you can not install Windows Media Center in home or Pro.

You will need to purchase a new DVD of WMC 2005.

They are cheap now and I saw them on the Web for about $60

Do a search and you will find them.

When I originally bought the computer the drive didn't come with it, when I asked if I could have, they said to call the guy, and if I have my product key I will be ok... problem is, a. it seems that questions of others who is not a solution, (b) I can't find a number to call and responds properly to my problems , and c. microsoft don't stop trying to charge me, something that I want is unfair if I already paid for the product.

If my HARD drive crashes and I have to replace, can I reinstall Windows 7 on the same computer? How the product key is affected? He still believes that I am still on the old HDD?

    Yes.

    Not at all.

    N °

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).

  • What I have to buy a new version of windows, because my hard drive crashed?

My computer hard drive crashed and had to be replaced. After replaceing I, of course, lost my program of windows 7, it has been installed at the factory. I don't have a DVD. Do I have to buy a new version of windows 7 to 8 or is there a place to reload windows?

You can opt for a recovery disc from the manufacturer that will put your system to the way it was when it is new, or you can download the version of Windows 7 which shows on the COA sticker and use the code too...

Make sure that the COA key code is readable before you download the ISO, because without it, the ISO has no value. You should also keep a note of the key code in a safe place.

Select the version on your COA sticker...

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 - U ISO

    English x 86: X 17 - 59463.iso

    English x 64: X 17 - 59465.iso

    Windows 7 Professional SP1 - U ISO

    English x 86: X 17 - 59183.iso

    Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - U ISO

    English x 86: X 17 - 58996.iso

    English x 64: X 17 - 58997.iso

You will need to convert the download on a bootable DVD...

Also note that the second method leave you that to install all the updates of Windows, drivers for devices etc.

You must do this installation, utilities and antivirus programs

Hello, my hard drive crashed and can't access my pc so I bought another one, but I don't know how I can install win7 to my new hard drive, I tried to retrieve the windows product key with software, but it did not work, what should I do?

Microsoft also does Digital River for Windows 7 downloads. Windows 10 will soon be out, and you are eligible for a free upgrade of your Windows 7 OEM license.

Know you can not install Windows 7, so the best thing for you to do is to install Windows 10 10130. It's beta software, but it is very stable. You will be able to use Windows 10 Insider 10130 as a springboard to Windows 10 RTM outside at the end of next month.

See here for instructions on downloading Windows 10 10130 x 64 .iso Insider and prepare the USB support:
