Hard drive failed and I lost everything! and after 2 years, I bought the thing.

I have a laptop DV9815.  The hard drive failed after that I was rebooting it.  All I want is to talk to HP by Email.  Now is this hard to do since I can't find an email?  I need a replacement of the operating system because it says "no found bone."  I want to Wndows XP Professional instead of Wndows Vista Home Priemium.  I legally own a copy of Windows Vista, but I want to downgrade to XP, if I can without paying hundreds.

HP won't make you XP, you will need to buy it if you want.

You can order here recovery media

  • Hard drive failed and I lost my product key?

    Hi guys,.

So my friends hard drive failed and unfortunetly he lost everything.

I replaced the broken hard drive for him and reinstalled Windows 10. However when I went to check if the OS has been activated, it showed as not been activated? I thought the machines after that Windows 8 had their licance saved in the BIOS, so we do not have this problem?

Also there is no sticker on the back or under the battery that contains the product key for Windows.

I also talked to Microsoft, but they were uable to help.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you.

It's a HP Pavilion 15-p264na. It came with Windows preinstalled as an OEM licance Home 8.1. It was then upgraded to Windows 10 at a later date using the free update successfully.

Then the second option mentioned above. Didn't it actually triggered successfully after 10 win upgraded?

If so, you should be able to activate just fine without problems, IF you use the same edition of Windows. You write it housed 8.1 - you now install Win 10 Home? You mentioned 10 Pro down...

So I guess I'll with your third option and using the recovery media?

I have 2 HP drives here for Windows 10 Pro for two different HP devices. I think these are the recovery CD, it says that they cotain the client software, if that is correct? Can I use these discs Pro on a BONE at home? Or that I'd be better by following the links you provided?

Laughing out loud. I'm sorry. I am afraid that you cannot mix just DVD / CD / etc - they are for a specific model for the specific version of Win / edition. You cannot use a recovery media for HP computer to another - it will simply not work 99% of the time. You cannot mix editions of Windows (the House is for Home, Pro goes to Pro).  You want the recovery media for this unit, you need to follow the links.

However, IF you have enabled the upgrade of Windows 10 post fine, you can simply download Win 10 ISO from here:

    > > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Download the tool, it will download an ISO and burn it to a DVD or write on a USB key. Follow the on-screen instructions, skip entered the key and move on. After installation, Windows 10 HOME should activate fine using digital entitlement if 8.1 Home Win allowed initially.

I would like to know how this goes for you.

    Kind regards.

  • Question about reinstalling windows on a laptop that came with it, but the hard drive failed and had to be replaced.

OK, until recently, the hard drive of my laptop couldn't, and I had to replace, no biggie, I really care about this laptop in any case. Then I threw ubuntu top and let it go from there. But recently, I wonder, if I could get windows again for her, for free. I am sure that it is not under warranty, but I could go and check of 90 percent. I have no back ups for it because it was cheap.

    Additional information:

    HP Pavilion G6-2235us

    Bought in the United States

    Provided with Windows 8

    No backups.

Yes, if the hard drive has been installed you can just catch a Windows ISO-8 8.1 is not available now and make an own Install. Then, if you have the sticker of the product key on the back of your laptop use the product key to activate. Devices with Windows 8 generally have incorporated in their BIOS product key and use the following tool to get the product key:

Download the key tool produces OEM of Windows

Then, you can use the key to activate. In the meantime, here is the link to download windows ISO 8.1 and generate the installation media

    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-Windows-8-Windows-8-1-ISO-download-create.html

Later you can improve Windows 10 too if you wish.

    Hello

When you use Dell Inspiron N5010, my cell phone was turned off suddenly. N, then it is showing error PXE E 61 - media failure. Check the cable.

Same hard drive is not recogniozed in the Bios Setup... How to recover my data now? It is quite crucial data...

    Please please help.

  • hard drive went and HP said not included in the warranty?

    I'm stumped.

    My computer would not start.

HP now tells me that it is not included in the warranty, since it must have had spilled water on it, or dropped.

    This is not true.

He has simply stopped working on me.

How can they be sure that it was not a mechanical problem?

They told me to call customer service, but the number they gave me 866-442-7029 is not correct.

    What should I do now?

    Well,.

Finally, we have the bottom of things.

After agreeing only not treatment of me the gift to the 866-684-3620 (I refused to accept that it is a failure due to misuse and pay the fee), it tells me that there is nothing he can do to help me more.

"You want me to fully waive the fee and I can't do it."

So, I asked if there was someone else, I can speak to, superior to him.

He then "climbed the case", and I got a call a day later, Eric, whose callback number was 877-917-4380 (unit 88). It turns out that Eric is a real, American HP customer service agent. He reviewed the notes and me (hope you're sitting) says:

Of course, the guarantee is covered and there was no user caused damage.

The reason I received misinformation of donation to this other number was that I asked that they also return me damaged the old hard disk (that I can try to get the data off it... see this article: http://www.geekyprojects.com/storage/how-to-recover-data-from-a-broken-hard-drive/ )

    )

and since (the hard drive broke his back) is not included in the warranty, I was being charged for an out of warranty service.

    !!!

I told Eric that Don does nothing of the sort. He told me that the damage to the car has been documented as being caused user and was therefore not in the warranty.

Eric told me that misunderstood gift probably notes.

(Strange thing is that people in India or in as much that the HP number 800-474-6836, also said that the damage is not included in the warranty and I have to pay for it. When I pressed them to find out why this is so, they quoted me the number of 866-684-3620.)

In any case, I haggled a bit with Eric and he was quite kind to put in a special request that the repair and the former player returned to me with the machine (remember, they throw out otherwise). Indeed, it has been, and I am always grateful.

    Just a couple of points.

    (1) the gift of first wanted to charge me $270 for the new disc repair. When I refused, he says can "take labor costs on and just charge me for parts... $180. Well, google it. Road costs about $40. How honest is that?

    (2) I called this number 866-684-3620 the next day and said the gentleman who responded (this time it's Mark, not Don) what happened. In my innocence, I told him I'm relaying it so that the next time someone asks the old rear drive (I guess his commune... who wants to kick back all their data), you tell them 'it was a damaged caused user. " Well, Mark told me that he couldn't care less and would not do anything with the information that I just gave him. Would not relay it to anyone.

Later, I realized that the number of 866-684-3620 is not HP, but the number for people to Quanta Computer, which are a company who perform repairs for HP. clearly, it is in their interest to do a repair and to be paid by the owner of the laptop, not HP. (HP does not pay $180 to replace a hard drive that cost me the retail $40!)

Bottom Line: Don't download jostled by the people of 866-684-3620. Ask that the case "degenerate." You will get a HP person and this time an intellegent and speak English.

For other examples of complaints of people buffeted by staff at 866-684-3620 (Quanta Computer), just google

    866-684-3620.

At the end of the day, however, I would like to thank Eric and also HP, to fix my computer and the hard drive back.

  • How to recover missing files that are still on the hard drive. iTunes and VLC Player can still read the files.

I had a restore of the system without success and now all my files (music, photos, documents, PDF files, vids, etc) are missing.  My itunes still recognizes the path to music and can play everything.  Same thing with VLC player and photos.   For example, if I go in VLC player and watch my playlist, I see that info a video is C:\Users\kevarendt\Desktop\Vids\... and the player will play the video.  However, I can't file my own.  He is no longer on my desk, where he was saved, but the path always displays it's there.  My drive is still in his usual capacity, so none of my files have been deleted.  I can't even to my user account.  All I see is a Public folder in C:\Users\.  What happened to my user account?  All the paths to my files have nothing to show, but it's still there but invisible.  How can I access it.  I use Vista Home Premium.

    Hello

I suggest you to check that the same in safe mode if you work, try to perform the clean boot

  • XPS 420 - HARD drive failed, performing a clean install of Vista on the new HARD drive.

    Hey everybody,

My on my XPS 420 HARD drive failed and I'm trying to reinstall Vista using the disc that came with my machine back when I bought it.

I bought a new WD10EZEXAZ (1 TB Serial ATA HDD), he rose in the same dwelling as my old HDD (ST3750630AS * Barracuda 7200.11*). I start the PC and goto Setup, it recognizes the HARD drive in the blue menu.

Then I boot with the CD of Vista that came with my system. I proceed as indicated through the following url:

    Clean install of Vista

After its copied files, expanded the files, installed features, updates installed... it goes to "Complete Installation" and throws an error message: "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on a hardware on this computer."

I tried a few things I've seen posted on the internet, including trying to run msoobe.exe via command line. When I did, it allows me to Setup user... but finally I get sent to this message of error or another telling me I have to reinstall Windows.

I read else where some hard disks may not compatible with the Dell disk provides with my OEM machine. If this is the case, can someone advise? I really didn't want to spend $100 one another on a Windows 7 disc, but I feel like this may be my only option... but even in this case, I'm not so sure this will work or the other.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Tony

    UPDATE *.
Did some more research, I discovered my new drive HARD is an advanced HDD format... not sure if it has nothing to do with my problems (by www.wdc.com/advformat Vista should not need to perform the work before the OS being installed), but thought I would mention it.

    Thanks again for any help.

    ****************

Seems that I found the solution to my problem.

Problem has been fixed by going into the BIOS and change the Mode of Port SATA to IDE/native/AHCI native. After that, the installation worked without any problems. Seems that Windows Setup did not like the port mode is set to RAID.

Just thought I would post back everybody incase has had the same problem.
