Hard drive in Windows 7 at boot error

Hello everyone, I have HP Pavilion with Windows 7 Home for 2 years now. However, since 15 days I get hard drive error when starting the mchine. I'm not able to solve this probem. Ask you to help me in this regard. -Rao nenault

What exactly do you mean by HD err?

Do you mean "no o/s found?

Or do you mean committed an error is detected in the HD? If so, it would seem that the HD was/is failing and needs replaceing

When you upgrade to 8.1 Windows it will replace your Windows 8.0. The only way I know to have both is to buy a copy of Windows 8.1 and install on another partition or drive.  Hope this helps and if you need another post to help and we will be happy to help you.

  • Is it possible to extract personal folders from my hard drive and transfer to an external hard drive if Windows does not start?

Hello, I recently started my Windows XP Dell computer and it should start up normally unless it would run the ChkDsk utility. It would freeze then 68% on stage 1 and goes no further. I called the people of Dell and after trying so many solutions, including safe mode, safe mode with network and CommandPrompt, we ran the diagnosis. The hard drive and memory are fine, no errors. He concluded that it was the operating system and must be restored. However, I have important files, I need to extract from my hard drive and he recommended me an external hard drive. I bought it, but now I'm not sure how to extract my files from my drive hard if Windows can not even boot the desktop computer. Is it possible to extract these files without the use of the desktop computer?

And you've burned the .iso image, and not as data? If Yes, then you have created a bootable CD. Put it in your optical drive and restart the computer. You may need to change the boot order in your BIOS. With some machines, you can get a temporary startup command menu by pressing a function such as F12 at startup. Other computers require that you enter setup and change the boot order in the optical drive first of all from there. When you start your computer it will be information about which key press to enter the BIOS (Setup) or give you the temporary boot order.

After you changed the boot order to boot first from the CD and rebooted the computer, Knoppix will boot. Have your external hard drive connected to the computer before you start doing this. After Knoppix is finished booting, you will be in his office. It will be very similar to Windows. There are icons on the desktop for your internal hard drive and the external hard drive. Copy files from the internal to the external drive as you want. Review what I wrote about the use of Knoppix in my previous answer. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • New hard drive, fresh install. No boot disk?

As I wanted a SSD in my laptop, I decided to install one in my laptop newly purchased, thus eliminating the original HDD with windows 8 installed.

I was unable to install windows 7 from a USB boot (saying there was "no boot drive"), so I decided to use another laptop to install windows 7 and then replace the SSD in laptop computer provided.

However, after I installed properly Windows 7 on SSD (loads Windows on another laptop), after placing in the laptop provided, I had once more the message that there is no boot disk.

It recognizes the SSD in BIOS. I swapped the boot order to start the first SSD, but it does not recognize anything as something bootable.

When you place the original HARD drive, with Windows 8 is installed, everything loads very well. But nothing else that the original OS on the original disk will not load.

No BSOD, no real error message. Just a message popping up, saying there is no bootable disk.

Is there something that I missed or messed up?

    Not a letter.

It is first in the boot order, named: "HDD0: [insert name SSD]."

  • Satellite M30 is not unbootable HARD drive and I can find no error

When I start the laptop, I get only a black screen (after the Toshiba/Bios screen) and a flashing cursor. Nothing else happens. I didn't like the change of configuration, updates etc. before that happened.
I am able to start the computer from the CD (with a XP pro CD or UBCD4win) drive and access the hard drive (so I was able to copy all of my data to an external hard drive), it does not start only windows (XP Professional SP3) from this drive!

Using UBCD4win, I ran diagnosis tools like memtest and TestDisk, without any reported errors. I also ran DFT (drive fitness test) of Hitachi (which is my hard drive manufacturer). Have not found errors, too. I also tried the repair install of windows, which went very well, but has not changed the situation at all. Also, I tried fixboot, fixmbr and bootcfg/rebuild of the recovery console, does not solve the problem. Load default BIOS - no change. I'm out of ideas...

So does anyone have an idea what's wrong with the system? I find no error, but this thing just does not start from the hard drive. Any idea/input is very appreciated!

    Hey Buddy

    > there must be a way to solve the problem without having to reinstall the entire system.
    I doubt that!
Not all problems can be solved without having to reinstall Windows.

I know this is strange and it takes a lot of time to install all your programs, but I think that in this case, it is the only solution for this. I mean you have tried many things and if a Windows repair installation does not, for me are obvious: a relocation complete!

You can spend more time to solve this problem without having to reinstall Windows, but don t forget you can do a complete new installation at the same time.
    Think about it! ;)

    Good luck!

    Hi ArnoldRendell,

    ·         You get the error message?

    ·         Are you able to access the external hard drive in Windows XP?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Performs a search on the external hard drive using the Microsoft safety scanner.

Method 2: Run the disk check to check for possible errors.

  • How can I restore my backup files on an external hard drive using Windows XP SP3?

I back up my files to an external hard drive using windows XP sp2. My pc crashed and re installed with Windows XP sp3. Now I can't find the backup on the system tools utility. How can I restore my backup files. Help, please.

    Hi PML.

Yes, I used the built in «Back to the top of the tool» Unfortunately I don't have the CD. My Netbook is a HP mini computer that comes with Windows XP home. Thank you for your help and I hope to hear from you again.

How do you reinstall Windows?  If you have used the HP Recovery system to recover from a hidden partition, backup should have been reinstalled.

I suggest you call HP support.

  • Installation hard drive with Windows XP operating system in another computer

Why can't I remove the hard drive with Windows XP already active and install in another computer?

No, you need to reinstall the operating system.  However, if XP and vista came with the computer as OEM software, it cannot be legally activated.  The reason why it does not is the difference in hardware.

  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

    Hello

While you can certainly add another HARD drive in the Bay of secondary drive (you must also support and the connection cable) you can't boot from it - only in the Bay of primary HARD drive is bootable.

    Kind regards
