  Well guys, that it left me speechless.  I recently inherited a laptop from a friend who is fairly new and in good condition.  The laptop, a Toshiba Techra A9, installed Windows Vista Ultimate.  The problem that I seem to have with the laptop is that it will start Windows in normal mode but gets up to a certain point and then hangs up.  I can hear the drive trying to be rolled up and continues to make a rattling noise, similar to a folder that jumps.  The funny thing is that I can turn the machine off and restart in SafeMode w / networking with no problems.  I tried a hard drive cool to think the problem could be a faulty drive, however, the new drive does the same thing.  I installed Vista via the Toshiba Recovery CD, and from the beginning for the first time Windows has frozen, the new hard drive making the same noise as the old.  Anyone out there have any ideas why this is happening?  Install a new hard drive and having the same problem son believe me that it is related Windows or I'll have another hardware problem elsewhere on the machine.  Thank you!!

  Try to check the drivers on the computer to the hard drive. If you can, go to the MMC Console in computer management, go to the Device Manager, and then in the console tree, you should see a line of 'hard drives. Down there, you should be able to see your hard drive. Right-click and click Properties, then go to the drivers of the popup window and note the driver version number. Check on the Toshiba site and see if there are updates to the hard disk driver. If there is, then install it.   It sounds a bit like a HARD drive problem.
  I recommend checking out the HARD drive using a free tool called Drive Fitness Test
  This free tool allows you to get more details on the State of the HARD drive and maybe some error would be detected which would mean that HARD drive failures and disk HARD must be replaced.

  In the last week or two, I got a few blue screens, saying he was driving demand, and that windows must be shut down to avoid damage my computer.

  The SMART error would certainly indicate the hard drive is faulty and should be replaced.  The first thing you can do is to back up all your personal files etc as soon as you can.

• Having trouble installing new drivers after installing a new hard drive and Windows Vista.

  I just installed a new hard drive on my computer of dell inspiron 1525. I managed to do it and it worked. I had a disc from dell to reinstall windows vista edition Home premium 32-bit and had drivers and utilities dvd. However I couldn't connect to the internet. I understand I'm missing some drivers but I rebooted the computer, but it goes to the black screen asking you to start in safe mode, safe mode with network, normally and something else. But after trying all of them, it goes straight to this same screen. What can I do? Or I can clear the new hard drive and start over? Any ideas?

Checked the directory and found at the bottom of the list that it lists zero OS System.  So, how can I get my hard drive formatted to accept the installation of the OS?   Thanks for the reply, yes my hard drive failed and I installed a new one, but after using the purchased HP recovery disc though HP, showed that a black bootmgr error saying screen was missing.

  Found on the HP disks partitioned hard drive, with windows on X:\ but was again start-up C:\ which was just a recovery image.   X drive was not complete, he lacked all the drivers and could not activate or change and C disc drive letter. I didn't know how to do this in the command prompt.

  Fixed my problem with a windows 7 installation no disc not the recovery disks that came from HP, if all goes well, they will work to reinstall all drivers to the laptop, but we'll see.  Used (computer repair) on the installation disk and it repaired the bootmgr.  Thanks anyway...

  How do you reinstall Windows?  If you have used the HP Recovery system to recover from a hidden partition, backup should have been reinstalled.
