hard drive XPS 8500 problems

Hello

Computer won't start normally or in safe mode. CHKDSK finds a lot of unreadable files and diagnostics dell (f12) everything is ok except the HDD and give following information:-Msg hard drive 0-S/NZ2F0A4M0 Fail error 2000:0142 PSAV4220 short self test unsuccessful.  failed to start preceded a strange click CPU.

Is my hard drive beyond redemption?  Diagnostic works off hd?

Would appreciate some advice

Thank you very much.

Hello Cmdr Ashtar,

The error code 2000-0142 means the drive hard self test failed, and the hard drive needs to be replaced.

I time it has mine HP had some problems

I rebooted with installing windows 7 again.

Then I get a lot of problems, it was the hd which gives the problem

When I look at true hd, I saw that it is not the normal SD but SATA 7 connection

I have two vertex 3 60 GB SSD and they go instead of hd perfectly.

The problem is the connection to this SSD

    I have this good connector?

This SSD will work with the HP Pavilion DV9500?

This SSD is perhaps to fast for HP? Maximum transfer for hp is 1.5 Gb/s, I think

    How many MB is it?

When I install Win7 with latest drivers.

laptop processors work around 50-70% without any program is launched!

I worked more then a week to find new drivers, why HP not with a program to update this driver is automated? The HP update works not at all, he said, everything is ok. But with a pilot programs, it finds more then 40 drivers unupdated!

I see mine laptop with 2 GB of ram, startup, there are already 90% used.

Is it not better to change the ram to 4 GB? because it's only $ 28

The DVD player can read compact optical disks but not read or write DVD.

    What can I do?

Can I change the DVD player. Are their sold somewhere?

You have a lot of questions here. Firstly, Yes, the connector of the drive hard eBay is the right and it will work on any SATA including SSD drive. I think the DV9500 and more it is SATA 2 (3 gb/s) interface, but it's not really important. A 60 GB SSD will not be enough space.

HP does not have updates of driver for this machine for quite a while. I wouldn't too much stock in these update pilot programs that you download from the Internet. Indeed, they often contain spyware that could explain why you have high CPU utilization. If you can give me the exact model number or at least tell me if it is an AMD or Intel version we can get better drivers. The pilots of two wholesale to be aware of are the chipset and video drivers. If you have the AMD driver chipset nVidia processor must be specifically responsible. Windows it will not pick up. You definitely need at least 4 GB of RAM, and Yes, you use the DDR2-800 SO-DIMM. Also, you should install 64-bit Windows 7.

Easy to replace. Just return the laptop and look for a screw in the center of the bottom panel. It will have an icon of disk beside him. Remove the screw and slide the drive.

  • Replacing hard drive XPS 8300

I have an internal 1.5 TB harddrive in my workstation of XPS 8300 (bought in 2012). Now, he has only 200 GB of free space. I bought a hard drive double (ST1500DM003 Seagate 1.5 TB 3.5 SATA).

Given that the new drive is twice faster (6 Gb/s with a 64 MB Cache) I want to use the new disk as my main drive (C :). I clean the current C: drive and install later as a second drive internal.

I want to clone my C: drive (which consists of three partitions: 39 MB OEM, 13.25 GB NTFS RECOVERY and 1383.98 GB NTFS Boot, Crash Dump, primary).

I have the Clonezilla Linux utility, but I don't know how to copy all three partitions on my C: drive to the new drive and still be able to boot from the new drive.

What should I do at this point?

    Regards, Chuck

I've never used clonezilla, and admittedly, it's been a while since I had to do something like this, but from my experience...

All major suppliers of HARD drive usually have a cloning solution, something they license to a company like Acronis (True Image) or Symantec (Ghost) with the restriction that they only work if one of the hard drives was manufactured by this seller. All of these programs I used, when a partitioned drive source, would give you options for:

    1. only clone a partition.
    2. all partitions to scale proportionately. (ranging from 1.5 to 3 TB to 500/500/500 GB give 1000/1000/1000 GB, yields of 500/1000, 1000/2000)
    3. manually define partitions.

If you chose option 2, everything should be good. You will download an ISO of the manufacturer and burn it to a CD. (Make sure you use "Burn Image to disk" data with the file .iso disc will not start your computer) fix the two HARD drives on the motherboard and the power and boot from the CD in F12 menu. Once you have cloned the drive, remove the original (Source) disk and check the new boot disk. (if the cloning was successful it will be)

At this point, you can delete the old drive, (make sure that you wipe the right pair!) re - partition and install it as a data reader. I would recommend using disk management to assign the data drive partition a drive letter fixed, just to ensure that it will not change if your optical drive turn off or something.

  • Can I reinstall the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional on a new hard drive without any problem of product/activation key?

Recently, my hard drive crashed and could be damaged, because I can not install anything on this subject.

I still have the CD of Windows XP Professional that has been used to upgrade to Windows 7.
So, if I buy a new hard drive and install XP first and then upgrade to windows 7. I'll be able to
to do this without side windows activation problems.
Or do I have to buy a new drive for windows?
PS: Is it important that it is the version of Windows 7 professional student discount?
    Thank you.

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • BIOS, hard drive or software problem?

Hello world. I was pleasantly surprised to find these forums here, because do I STILL need help!

I have a HP Pavilion dv6675us (dv6500 series) running 64-bit Vista Ultimate. It's a little older than a year. Yesterday, after the installation of security updates for multiple applications (such as recommended by Secunia) and cripple the system, I started from a BootIt NG CD to see if I could resize my partitions, and he told me that all my partitions had not been formatted or was corrupted. Then I tried to boot from the hard drive, and my laptop crashed with a BSOD (for the umpteenth time). As usual, the message flashes by too fast to read, but it was something about an installed device is only not available (similar to the message that I saw every time previous). I'm just trying to get my system to its previous state after the last crash - and was almost there. :-(

I have a Vista Ultimate install DVD, so I then ran Setup and past in repair mode to see if I could repair of BONE problems, and told me that the installer could not find an OS - or even a hard drive! He told me to insert a CD with the hard disk drivers, which of course I did not. The next thing I tried was to restart and check the BIOS to see if the hard drive has been properly registered. I have a Phoenix BIOS, Version F.51. All the BIOS configuration utility showed me, it was information system, with no information of the disc without user settings and hard. (There was a journal of diagnosis which could be clicked on, but the arrow keys did nothing).

I have a complete picture that I backed up the night before last, but at this point, I don't know what good that he would do to restore, or even if I could. This is a BIOS problem? What would have made him? Is it possible that the battery is dead?

I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable PC guy, but I'm lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

If the BIOS and the Vista recovery program are both show no hard drive present I suspect that your hard drive is crashed. The only other possibility is that you somehow corrupted the table to partition so that it is just not be recognized, although this should not affect if the BIOS sees a current hard drive. I remove the machine and use a SATA to usb adapter and see if he goes and stands by another computer. You can also try dban and see if you can do a full zero fill (low-level format). More recent versions of dban will detect and work with SATA drives. The .iso to make a bootable dban cd version. Good thing you made an image before it all happened.

  • Increasing hard drive size of problem

    Hello

I am trying to increase the size of the hard disk of the virtual machine in vSphere, but the option for all the drives are grayed out on a server specific (all other servers work very well and seem to have the same configuration).

Is there a list of parameters, that I can use to determine why it is grayed out?

    The ones I know:

-There are no snapshots on virtual machine

-The SCSI controller is a LSI Logic SAS (I know that you can't increase with an IDE controller/drive)

-All hard drives are thick provisioned

    What else could be?

We use vCenter 4.1 and ESXi 4.1. The VM version is 7, Windows Server 2008R2.

    Thanks for any help,

    David.

Just to be safe. How to check that there are no snapshots on the VM? Using the Snapshot Manager or by checking the vmdk file name in parameters of the HARD disk of the virtual machine or by examining the data store? Sometimes the Snapshot Manager shows not all snapshots (especially when the backup software is in use).

Please open the browser of data store and double check there is no - 00000x.vmdk files.

    André

PS: If you find the snapshot files in the data store Navigator, open the snapshot to the virtual machine Manager, create a new snapshot, and then select 'Delete All' which will merge/delete all snapshots, appears in the Snapshot Manager or not.

  • Insert additional hard drive XPS 420

  • can of boot from hard drive (bootable on Dell 8500) on Dell 8700

My XPS 8500 had a problem of MB/CPU, then bought a new 8700, but when I move the 8500-hard disks (good) 8700, but 8700 can't see the OS on 8500 hard drives (Windows and Linux), can I configure 8700 BIOS to make the hard drive of 8500 bootable on 8700? If possible, how? Thank you.

8500 XPS BIOS is default of type "Legacy", while the XPS 8700 is default "UEFI".

You can try to change the BIOS on the XPS 8700 to inheritance (and/or the Legacy OPROM option). And you should probably disable Secure Boot too.

That said, the 2 systems have very different processors and chipsets, so you will not be able to boot from the old HDD without having to reinstall Windows.

Why don't you just try to install the old HDD as secondary in the XPS 8700 drive so player you can save your files? And then install all your Windows software on the new HARD drive that came in the XPS 8700?

    Hi all

It tends to crash frequently, the continuous drive to make a horrible noise even with the system delayed broke down. It also for the first time displayed the same messages error 'media test failure...' but then started restarted fine, but only to the failure to new about 5 minutes later.

    Hello

It may be that the IDE controller is faulty, this explains why the new HARD drive also have problems!

The only thing you can do is contact a partner of Serivce for a medical examination.
