Hard to turn on my laptop

Hello

I'm new to the Forum and I need help with a problem.

My laptop only turns on when I press the power button. A small light flashes for a while, but other wise, nothing happens.

Above the light that blinks, is a symbol of... small lightning bolt but I don't know what that means.

Please, if anyone can think of a solution or reasons as to why it runs don't not on, and what I can do to solve this problem, I apppreciate be appriciative. I need my laptop for school and until I get this problem solved, I can't do my studies.

Thank you.

Jean-Marie this... Remove the power cord, then the battery. Attach the power cord and try to start it. If it works, stop and replace the battery.

I rebooted, but is the same this time on the log of windows on the screen, I kept restarting trying to operate... until he has not start n now it sits right on the toshiba screen before starting.

The HD LED lights up and I'm stuck in the menu. I opened my laptop n watched the hardrive (tho not touched cos I didn't break!) n its not loose or anything... but now I can not get it started, I tried the recovery cd which I can sometimes get into tho it doesn't seem to work!

Please can soemone tell me how to solve this problem, preferabley without send it to Toshiba.

    Hi Paul,.

It seems that if your hard drive has failed. Check in your BIOS during the initial POST to see if the drive is correctly recognized.

You can try to restore the hard disk from the recovery CD (just boot from the recovery CD and follow the prompts on the screen) but this will erase all your personal data and programs that you can have installed and restore your laptop to its State.

If you still have problems then I think you need to replace the hard drive and reinstall your system.

    Kind regards

  • When I turn on my laptop it goes straight to no bootable device insert boot disk which I do not have?

When I turn on my laptop it goes straight to screen blk which then no bootable device - insert floppy to start IE, which I did not

You burn your set of recovery disks? If so start with them. No recovery set > Contact HP to order a set for a small fee.

You can enter the BIOS by tapping /holding F10 key immediately after turning the power on and use Diagnostics to test your hard drive.

  • Two minutes after I turned on the laptop Vista freezes

My Vista freezes about 2 minutes after I turned on the laptop. Then it does not allow me to do something, so I have to cut the current, do not use the close option. I don't know if it is a common problem in Vista or if it's just my laptop.

Download or leave the laptop on for a very long time will help this problem?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Usually, the OS should no freezes but sometimes if the temperature of the laptop is high it can happen that the laptop will not answer. Sometimes some installed 3rd party applications could have a bad influence and can cause freezing.

I recommend reinstall the Vista from the Toshiba restore CD.
If the laptop freezes still after the new installation you must contact the technician of the laptop of the ASP in your country.

  • How can I turn off the laptop after restoring it to factory settings?

    Hello everyone

I'm selling my Portege R830-10 q If I want to restore it to the settings to factory (out-of-box state) AND THEN TURN IT OFF.

I brought the laptop to factory settings successfully using the _TOSHIBA recovery Wizard_ and choosing * factory default software recovery (Recover State out-of-box) *. However, at the end of the process of recovery and after everything is back in place I was not able to TURN off the POWER to the laptop. It only gave me the option to restart. After rephrasing it, the Windows installation process starts.

I don't want to install Windows, i.e. language, keyboard, user account, etc. I want to leave the Windows installation for the person buying the laptop to me. How can I turn off the laptop after the recovery of the system without having to install Windows?

    I would appreciate your help.

    Concerning

    Pedro

When the recovery process is complete and you are prompted for a reboot just press start button / stop and turn it off. I think it's only thing you can do.

Anyway, why not start Windows and go through the configuration option. New owner can modify this basic anyway parameters. As username Admin and language and the keyboard can be set as default.

For example, if you have a picture of German recovery set to German. New owner can change in any case.

  • How to turn on a laptop

    Hello, all,.

I'm new to the forum, but I use HP laptops for 7 years and there is an issue that has been dragging me since then. When I turn on my laptop, can I immediately press and release the power button or do you think I should hold the button down for about 2-3 seconds. You can call me a doubting thomas, but for some reason, I think that if I press and immediately release the button, the laptop will not be able to get enough amount of electricity and it does not start correctly. Even if it starts without a problem, this will hurt the power to the laptop.

I would be grateful if you shared what you think about it with me.

No, it will not damage your computer. Start button / stop gives just a signal that it is triggered. It accumulates no power. It is not necessary to hold the button.

You n "t do it this way.

You use cloning software to clone your existing to the new disk drive.  For portable computers, you will need to purchase an external hard drive enclosure which is (a) compatible with your drive (SATA or PATA) interface and (b) compatible with external connections on your laptop (for example, USB, FireWire, eSata).  Do not spend a lot of money for this speaker ($ 10-$ 20).

If your new hard drive Western Digital, you can get the free cloning (a 'special' version of Acronis True Image) of WD software (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list and is in no particular order):

    Acronis True Image Home 11
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

    The process is simple:

    1. Install the software on your laptop for cloning
    2. RTFM (do not skip this step)
    3. Install the new drive in the external case
    4. Connect new player to the computer
    5. Clone original disc on new drive
    6. Stop
    7. Unplug the external computer case
    8. Exchange records (original for external disk) and the new laptop drive
    9. Reboot and enjoy your new drive.

When you know that the cloning operation was successful, format the old drive, which is now in the external case and use it for backup of data.

    Two points:

    1. to answer your question, go to start | Run and type 'control '.
userpasswords2"select the account that you want to connect automatically.
Then uncheck "users must enter a user name and password
    This computer '.

Or do the same thing with TweakUI.

    2. If I have acquired a used computer, regardless of who was previously owner
the first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operating
system itself. You don't know how the computer has been maintained,
which has been improperly installed, what's missing, what virus and
There may be spyware, etc. I would not live with someone of another errors and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc, and I would not recommend anyone else to do.
If you reinstall Windows properly, you are playing with fire.

  • Whenever I have turn off my laptop and turn it back on, all my data disappears.

I'm using a thinkpad notebook issued by school (lenovo R400) that uses Windows Vista.  I know almost nothing about computers, but a couple of my friends know a little, and none of them were able to help me.  Every time (it happened three times) I turned off my laptop in the last three months or so, I turn it back on and everything disappeared.  I downloaded programs, backgrounds, music, documents, photos, videos - all of this.  Now, I checked the recycling bin, so I know that it has not been deleted.  Also, if I check what has changed recently, I can recover some of them.  I usually just let my laptop to sleep, so I turn rarely completely off.  The first time it happened, there were just two Documents folders, two folders of music, etc.  The next time it happened, they disappeared, but they have either finally came on their own after a few days, or me just messing them back.  As I am currently in College, it is very important that I can access everything I could have written this year.  It is a big problem for me, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are constantly thrown into a temporary user account. This can be caused by hardware or malware infection problems. The most sensible thing to do is to take the machine to your school IT Department. and let them take a look. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
