  You must validate the machine model and or the graphic chipset. If for example it's Nvidia then opening the Nvidia control panel and look for the PhysX inffo you will see if hardware acceleration is enabled or disabled at the machine level. Under the 3D settings, there are application specific settings. I would have thought that any game as installed will be enabled these features supporting GPU.   Thanks for posting the query on the Microsoft Community forums. I understand that while you try to read the Spider or regular Solitaire game, you have an error message indicating that hardware acceleration is turned off or not supported by the video card driver.

  This problem can be caused if hardware acceleration is disabled.

  Method 1:

  Follow the steps to enable hardware acceleration.

  (a) click Start, type display in the search box, and then click Properties to display in the list programs.

  (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

  (c) click the settings tab and then click Advanced.

  (d) in the performance tab or on the Troubleshooting tab, move the hardware acceleration all the way to the right (Full position).

  (e) click OK and then click Close.

  (f) If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

  Method 2:

  I suggest you update the video card driver.

  Follow the steps to update the video card driver.

  (a) click the Start button.

  (b) type devmgmt.msc in the search bar, and then click ok.

  I was able to diagnose my problems with the new windows that open instead of tabs and expectant keyboard following the indications of support: start in safe mode, removing the hardware acceleration, reboot normally and... .no problem! I would like to know if it is possible to update the graphics drivers in Windows XP - pro before going through the whole process (I'm not a tech savvy type). My internet loading is already slow as it is, rural DSL speeds, but I rather just be patient rather than to tackle the constant keyboard problems that have been driving me crazy. Please let know us if it is worth trying to upgrade or not.

  Personal opinion, away from NVIDIA / GeForce video cards. AMD / ATI based cards seem to work better with Firefox that the GeForce cards based on the research I did in April for a new PC, I was building at that time here.

  No problems with hardware acceleration or Firefox on Win7 32 bit with focus on the AMD Radeon video card from ASUS that I installed (~55.00 USD). But with Windows XP, you may never be able to use hardware acceleration, 'new' video cards do not support an EOL as WinXP operating system, and those that do may not provide enough in the long term, as Mozilla continues to twist HA in Firefox.

  Do you know what brand and model of video card you have?  You can find by going to
  Starting system, computer, properties, hardware, Device Manager
  Expand graphics cards
  Find the name of your video card is, and then go to the manufacturer website and download the latest driver for this video card.  Make sure you get one that matches your version of Vista.

  Most video cards have some type of control panel of their own which are accessible by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop.  But without knowing what you have the video card, we cannot really talk about hardware acceleration.  If you right-click on the desktop and you see something that corresponds to the brand of your video card, then go for it.  Other wise, right click on your desktop and properties, settings, then advanced.
