Having trouble setting up on Ubuntu 14.04

Under this thread:

http://UbuntuForums.org/showthread.php?t=2229006

Which refers to this HOWTO:

http://goo.GL/xlY8xn

I see:

[code]

Configure user@host:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe

Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Setup

-------------------------------------------------

This will configure the startup properties of database Oracle 11 g Express

Edition.  The following questions will determine whether the database should

start the system startup and ports, it will use passwords that

will be used for database accounts.  Press < enter > to accept the default values.

CTRL-C will stop.

Specify the HTTP port that will be used for Oracle Application Express [*]:

Specify a port that will be used for the listener to the database [*]:

Specify a password to use for database accounts.  Note that the same

password will be used for SYS and SYSTEM.  Oracle recommends using

Different passwords for each account database.  This can be done after

initial Setup:

Confirm the password:

Current assumptions:

I forgot or wrong set a parameter memory somewhere.

I see:

[code]

user@host:~$ sudo cat /etc/sysctl.d/60-oracle.conf

[sudo] password for jim:

# Oracle 11g XE kernel parameters

FS.file - max = 6815744

NET. IPv4.ip_local_port_range = 9000 65000

kernel.SEM = 250 32000 100 128

kernel.shmmax = 536870912 [code]

kernel.shmmax is 512 MB, but I think that my machine has 16 GB.

user@host:~$ cat/proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal

MemTotal: 16326920 kB

512 * 1024 * 1024 = 536870912 (verified with calculator just in case)

16326920 k == (16326920 * 1024), i.e. the value in bytes.

If that's the problem, I do not understand why this is important. With 16 GB, there should be plenty of space. Also maybe this isn't the only place where there is a specification for memory.

I figured this out on my own.

move /etc/sysctl.d/60-oracle.conf to ~ / and restarted to make the correct available then I did:

user@host:~$ grep - n ".» ' * ' / proc/sys/kernel/shmm *.

/ proc/sys/kernel / shmmax:1:33554432

/ proc/sys/kernel / shmmni:1:4096

OK, so appearing kernel.shmmax = 33554432 60 - oracle.conf and move back to /etc/sysctl.d/
Then reload:

starting the service sudo procps

OK, take - another execution during the configuration:

configure sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe

Leading to:
