Help - DR4000 and Symantec Backup Exec 2012

We strive to set up a DR4000 with Symantec Backup Exec 2012 VRay Edition.

DR4000 firmware is 1.0.1.1

I created a new container and all NFS and CIFS permissions without restrictions. (Free access)

When I go to add a new drive according to the storage location to BE, everything goes OK until the BE trying to access the share location when I get an authentication error.  He seems to BE trying to gain access to the share using the default service account, (which the DR4000 does not of course).

I am a little confused because I thought that if it's full, permissions are enabled on the actions of DR4000, then it does not matter which account is used.

There is also no documentation on how to implement the DR4000 and BE with storage devices open that apparently two support, but all the examples I've seen ignores OSD and uses just a disk path leaves ordinary.

We are stuck with shiny new Dell and DR4000 backup server and no way to use them.

If anyone can help?

Ok.  Problem solved.  I disconnected the DR4000 of the field, it still wouldn't connect.  I joined it to the domain, and then BE could access the share OK.  I don't know why it did not work before.  A note, why you cannot join the DR4000 to the domain by using the domain administrator account?  You must use another account with domain administrator rights.

    Dear Experts,

We recently purchased C0H19A: StoreEver HP 1/8 G2 6 - LTO Ultrium 6250 CF TapeAutoloader. The purpose is to backup of VMS data, I mean selected data in virtual machines, as for the exchange of data bases email for server accounts database SQL server etc.. We have a full VM backup plan, so using symantec backup exec software.

    We have this configuration:

-TWO DL 380 Gen8 servers (running UPDATE2 Esxi 5.0), both servers have not all SCSI ports

-One SINGLE HP P2000 G2 MSA FC Dual Cntrl storage

-TWO HP SN6000 12 - pt Windows Pwr FC switch

    -HP ADF

All them above are related to the CF. Symantec backup exec 2012 is also installed on Windows 2008 R2, which is a virtual machine.

But now, we are unable to see the tape library autoloader through the virtualization layer in the device of machine Manager virtual backup exec. Reading on internet, I also found some details that connected FC tape drives are not supported by the Esxi hosts. We are really stuck in this situation, all the solutions to this. I also read the article from vmware saying configuration for Esxi 4.0 FC tape drives and later versions

Installation of a physical server windows with Backup Exec 2012 and HBA and connected to above switches FC is the only way to see the ADF? Even after reading articles on the internet, I'm not clear, please guide what solution I have now to get this thing going, I really need to find solution to this.

    Waiting for answers.

    Kind regards

Hello, I'm a Backup Exec support engineer and yes the method supported is only by connecting the tape drive to a server of physical media. Hi all

I using ESXi 5.1 free version a host and 3 windows Server 2008 R2 OS guest.

I need to save and plan to purchase Symantec Backup Exec 2012 month next but the seller said "all backup software no ESXi free support" because API service off, so I have to buy vSphere Essentials.

Is it factual information? If so, can you suggest me other solution?

Note: Must be a Standard license for vSphere to BE 2012 properly protect guest hosted ESXi systems.

Note: Everything is free version of ESXi (4i and 5) require a minimum of VMware license in order to be protected by Backup Exec. This is due to the lack of API vStorage to help to protect data in versions without a free license of ESXi and VMware current limiting.

  • Backup exec 2012, issue of mpio san backup and ALA

We have a 4 TB File Server 2008, BONE is a physical server with hba to san volume where the files are located on.
so far, our backup exec server has an hba double iscis, with only using a port in the San.
in backup exec, I have created 8 jobs that run at the same time and creates 8 snapshots on the san to back up the file server.
on the side of san when snapshots are created, I can see that snapshots are assigned to the different ethernet ports, eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3, etc..
and start broadcasting our backup exec Server iscsi hba data, but since it is only using 1 connection her bottleneck through 1 Gbps.

If I install mpio on the backup exec server and configure the ports and mpio on the hba settings, when the san creates snapshots, the TI separate backups between the two connections of 1 GB on the hba iscis on the backup exec Server?

what I have to do all the other configurations on the San or switch layer2 (48 1 Gbps connections) that we use for our San?
I read somewhere that you would have to do something on the switch if you did 'aggregation of links' or 'bonding' but that mpio is completely different, and I wouldn't have to do something for her.

    any comments would be appreciated.

    Hello

Re: Collage/circuits only is not supported by the MS. iSCSI initiator  It's in the guide to iSCSi Ms.

RE: iSCSI hba.   What is a Broadcom iSCSI unloading mode or Qlogic iSCSI HBA?

So once you configure the other port on the DRUNK to be on the same SAN subnet, you can use MPIO.

You should already have installed the EQL HIT the DRINK server, is that correct?     If so, then run the Remote Setup Wizard in the Equallogic program folder.   There is an option "configure mpio.   Game to use only the iSCSI subnet, and you will see a checkbox for MPIO enabled shadow copy.  Which is enabled by default.

    Hello.

By using another backup server (Backup Exec) with VCB framework installed and using the same server as a Proxy.

Here's everything you need to know.

Do I still need to install the vCenter VCB framework?

No, as long as it is not the same server with Backup Exec on it.

    Good luck!

  • For Symantec Backup Exec backup scripts

    Hello

Does anyone know how to change the module of integration of Backup Exec for monolithic backups.  It's create sparse backups at this moment and identification is somewhat more complicated.

Good instructions on how to restore the backup of the file partially allocated to another ESX host would be useful.

    Thank you very much

    Russell

DOH!  Sorry, I gave you the location for VCB 1.1, it changed to 1.5. It should be added to the following:

    function AttachVMData(VMinfo, vmMoRef, createSnapshot, deleteSnapshot)

  • Exe 2012 and VMware backup

I am to evaluate Symantec Backup Exec 2012. The software can create a virtual machine of any system. What I need is a copy of the ISO image of the Vmware tools for windows. Where can I find this download?  I did a search with nothing. I'm not in data warehouses. I use Vsphere 4.1.

    Thank you.

  • Backup Exec 2010 R2 and Vsphere 4.1

    Good day all

I'm quite puzzeled of Backup Exec 2010 r2 backup of Vsphere 4.1 VM with VM agent. In the image attached data store is thick accrued 1.14 TB LUN on the SAN that has 2 vm. The virtual machine is configured to thin configured as you can see the storage capacity and put in service has about 400 GB discrepancy, but it's only when backups are like BE2010 instant process. Here are the best backup is to 400 GB, but free storage has not diminished, I expect short of space free on the LUNS but is still in treatment of the backup and servers are still in place.

Can someone explain to me the instant treatment BE2010 and space to line up shots in a BE2010 perspective.

The snapshot files will contain only the changes made to the virtual machine, while the backup is running.  When the backup starts, it takes a snapshot of the virtual machines, this snapshot blocks of virtual disk files 'main '.  New entries on the virtual disks will be written to the snapshot files, that is, they contain only the changes made to the virtual machine.  The backup task is then sure to read the 'core' virtual drives, knowing that they will not change and will be in the State of the virtual machine when the snapshot was taken.  Once the backup is complete, it will "remove" the snapshot, this 'merges' the changes in the files of 'snapshot' for 'main' virtual disk files

If the 'snapshot' files will be as large as the amount of changes on the virtual disks while the snapshot is in place.  This has nothing to do with the amount of data backed up by Backup Exec as one reads in the virtual disk files 'main '.

I guess that you expected the files 'snapshot' to increase the amount of data on the virtual disks and for Backup Exec read these files snashot.

    I hope that makes sense.

  • Backup Exec on a virtual computer... I dared?

    Hi all

I think strongly about moving Symantec Backup Exec on a virtual computer.  Before I do, I was wondering if anyone has the words of wisdom.   With the material that I have, I will be forced to join the SCSI

cable for the ESX Server backup & hope I can communicate

in this way.  Don't believe not that if anyone here knows if I need some special software/drivers to make sure that everything plays nice?

    What I have:

    • Backup Exec 12.5

    • Tape drive Quantum PX502

    • ESX 3.5

    Feedbackup welcomed.

I have a 2008 VM Windows BE12.5.  Origianally host was ESX3.5, but I continued to get PSODs every time the drive was accessed.  Tape drive is an HP 920 LTO3 autoloader.  SCSI card has been a a HP card LSI brand, but is not compatible with the new server hardware that we would go to anyway, so we tried an Adaptec 39160 (spare part one of our previous tape drive) and ESX does not PSODs, but the 920 drive disliked the SCSI card.  (The 920 can't slow down correctly to Ultra160.)  We have replaced the 39160 with a 29320LPE (we didn't need to double the 39xxx channel and EPA because we had to PCIe connectors) and he CMTF.  29320ALS is on the list of compatibility ESX4, but not the EPL.  ALS is a RAID card that is not recommended for tape drives, but we crossed our fingers.  We have upgraded the ESX3.5 to ESXi4 server and all is well now.  SCSI tape drives seem to be hit or miss.

I noticed that the page Web PX502 says that he supports iSCSi.  This can be a good option for you, if your current SCSI (or whatever HBA) is not compatible with ESX.  We have a Quantum DXi3500 VTL connected via iSCSI to the same Windows VM using Windows iSCSI initiator '.   No problems with ESX compatiibility, as it is Windows communicates directly on the LAN to the Quantum.  We had to dedicate a gigabit NIC for iSCSI communication.  But we can get around 1000 MB/min to 350 MB/min vs Quantum LTO3 iSCSI should be fast enough to a physical tape drive.  The Quantum VTL and iSCSI have been quite reliable and was allowed me the time to get the physical tape drive problems brought.

  • Several VSS writers fail and my backups are failling too. Need help!

Several VSS writers fail and my backups are failling too. Need help:

I have a desltop installed SP3 x 64 XP and a laptop with seven x 64 SP1. In both the machine that my backups fail. I'm trying to back up data by using boats to storage, backup Windows also is failling. I'm taking a full backup on a USB external drive (2 TB).

I did "vssadmin list writers" and showing several writers are in the failed State.

I've done SFC/scannow, it did not help. There is no error in the disk and Chkdsk.

I don't know how VSS works and how to solve the problem. Help, please!

A lot of people told me they found this informative article. That's why I upgraded that and display back again.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Before you stat is working on this issue make sure that the volumes have no system disk/file error. Run Chkdsk and ensure.

    (1) in the case of a failure of backup/writer, we first check the drivers associated with the VSS backup.

    These drivers are:

    VOLSNAP. SYS

    NTFS. SYS

    SWPRV. DLL

-Check the version of above mentioned MS 3 files and update using MS Hotfix.

If we have installed other suppliers, who might be the supplier of StorageCraft, Symantec suppliers and suppliers of Acronis, he must ensure that their files are also updated.

Note: You can see the list of suppliers using this command: VSSADMIN LIST PROVIDERS

Some of the DRIVERS PROVIDER commonly find are:

    stcvsm.sys

    symsnap.sys

    snapman.sys

    (2) this step is performed only when we find him

VSS writers in a failed State. If we find the stable writers and backups still fail, or we get errors, do not perform this step if you please.

In this case, the VSS writers fail, we can delete the following registry key, after of course saving and restart the server.

    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/EventSystem/{26c.../Subscriptions.

This key will be automatically recreated when you restart and writers should return to the stable state.

The writers pending the completion status is not a problem. It's also good that Stable.

We can do on the Server 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2 OS as well.

However, in Windows Server 2003, after you delete and restart the "vssadmin list writers" server cannot display all the writers, in this case must register the dll:

For a list of the dll files to register, please check KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940184

Note: The reinstatement of dll in Windows Vista/2008 and especially is NOT recommended.

    (3) if we have only one / specificwriter (s) in a State of failure, which would always be SQL, EXchange, IIS or NTDS, then we have need to revive their respective service Console of service.

If they fail repeatedly, then make sure that the application and its components are updated. See their respective engineers immediately. Make sure that the latest service packs and patches are installed.

    (4) make the foregoing, resolves generally 80 to 90% of the questions. If we believe that the issue is occurring, or we have VSS event errors, it may be the providers, the origin of the problem. If the creation of the snapshot does not properly, it can affect writers and other components involved.

Please check providers using "vssadmin list providers. If we find any other provider, other than the Microsoft software shadow copy provider, we have to remove from the list.

To do this: start the registry editor.

    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/VSS/suppliers/GUID.

One GUID would be for Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider. The other GUID would be for other providers such as StorageCraft. We will save the GUID, and then delete it. Then restart the machine.

Now when we do vssadmin list providers, we will see only the default Microsoft provider.

I have seen in many cases where our supplier of StorageCraft may not work properly and continue of not not the authors. In such

case, if we get rid of the supplier, then the issue is resolved and not re occurs.

-However this would impede the functionality of StoaregCraft or any other similar to this backup software.

That's why to engage respective software tech support for further assistance.

    (5) If a shadow copy is enabled on the volume, make sure that the storage area is set to the default location.

    For example:

If we take a snapshot of C: then the storage area should be C:

We are changing that, if we do not have enough free space (at least 300 MB) free.

We can click with the right button on the volume, goto the cliché tab and change it accordingly.

Also note that the minimum value of the storage area should be 300 MB and maximum can be 3000 MB.

We can also set any value between the two, which is a multiple of 300, 600, 900, 1200, 1500 etc... According to the available space.

In the cases where errors in the event viewer on wait times (event id: 12298, 12310, 2004, 12290) then we also need to put the MinDiffArea in the registry.

    HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Volsnap

Right side, new DWORD VALUE - "MinDiffAreaFileSize" - change and set the value between "300-3000 Mo" or any multiple

300 between the two. Ideally, we can define it on 3000 MB which works even better if we have space.

    Ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936

    (6) also, please make sure we have plenty of free space. If we go by the book, a snapshot requires at least 10% of the volume

    to be free.

Storage controllers (SCSI/RAID controllers) could also be a problem and may need to be updated.

  • Backup Exec and instant / add disk space

I use Backup Exec to make full VM backups

After the backup, I can see a snapshot to the virtual machine in the Snapshot Manager

I deleted all the snapshots of the virtual machine and stop the virtual machine.

At this point providing drive area is grayed out and e/s can not add disk space on the existing drive

I don't see that there is a-000001, 000002 vmdk still kicking around in the virtual machine folder

    (a) is it safe to delete the 00001 and 0002?

    (b) any idea how to prevent the creation of the Snapshot Backup Exec files

Some would please the VCB and Backup Exec 12.5 on a Windows 2008 Setup process

Looks like you need to install vCentre Converter (the server vCentre himself) of what has been said.

Please give points for any helpful answer.

  • Backup Exec 12.5 and VCB - support requirements and agent

I noticed there is now an agent, which you can purchase from Symantec that allows you to save as many guests on the particular host windows as you want without any agent (though law enforcement officers are still required).

    http://eval.Symantec.com/mktginfo/Enterprise/other_resources/b-solution_brief-bews12.5_agent_vmware_virtual_infrastructure_09-2008.en-us.PDF

My question is this - from what I can find on the web, ESX 3.5 U3 does not support the latest integration modules Backup Exec (pre and post backup scripts etc.). So based on this, using Backup Exec 12.5 with VCB Symantec agent is needed giving you the GUI (no longer need to customize scripts for VM backups).

    Can someone please clarify this?

The Agent gives you a GUI with VCB integration. You should always install VCB, just not the integration kit. You can always do it the "old school" way. The modules BE did never seem to work 100% anyway and you can the House push something pre and post if you do not want to pay for the agent.

I think that VMware just stopped creating integration because the older kits kits are relatively stable. I tested with esx3.5u3/vc2.5u4 and have no problem. There is no update for VCB, so there is no update for the kits.

I know that you have done this before, then you probably haven't this info, but I just posted a guide on the VI:OPS on VCB as a generic facility backup->http://viops.vmware.com/home/docs/DOC-1392

  • Backup Exec and VCB proxy server configuration

    Hello

I am installing Backup Exec to back up my virtual machine on an ESX Server, but I get the following error:

    *Backup- VMVCB::ESX01VCGuestVm(DC)ha-datacenter(DC)vmserver03*

V-79-57344-38220 - Backup of the virtual machine 'server03' failed. VMware VCB framework reported the following error

Error: Failed to open the disk: Cannot access a SAN/iSCSI LUN backing this virtual disk. (Hint: Option "-m ndb" swtiches vcbMounter to network base disk access if this is what you want.)

It's my setup. I have an ESX Server connected to a San. I store my images on the SAN. I have Backup Exec installed on our file server that is also attached to the SAN and try to use this server as my VCB proxy server. I have installed on my server BE VCB framework and the enterprise Converter 3.03. I have setup a temporary staging that the server can access to place its snapshots on.

My BE\VCB proxy server cannot access the SAN LUN that holds the images. My understanding of the process is that of BE I navigate on the ESX Server and select the virtual machine, I want to backup, and because the ESX Server can access the SAN LUNS where VM images are stored throughout the process of alignment of the image and place in the temporary storage area so that BE can then throw tape should work.

Can someone help to solve my problem?

    See you soon

Yes, it is the intention of the VCB.  Take the resources needed to run the backup out of the host and on the VCB proxy server.  You can define VCB to use the 'LAN' mode which backs the service console of the virtual computer on the network, but it is slower and puts more pressure on the host.

Make sure you carefully follow the VCB document.  There are some things you need to do on the proxy before presenting the LUN as cutting diskpart automount. If you don't there is a chance that the lun might get corrupted and your VM would go bye-bye.
