Help me configure bridged networking

I just build a Dell 2950 to host three virtual servers on a production network. I installed VMWare Server 1.0.8 and have a virtual machine ready to go. The physical host that is running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 64-bit. The virtual host is the same except 32-bit. I have a second dedicated network adapter, I want to use for the virtual machine. I want the virtual machine to have a static IP address on my network of production, so I'm pretty sure that I need to use the bridged mode. The question that I have in fact is to configure interfaces. Configure the physical host with a static address with the virtual host with a static address? The virtual network editor DHCP service is used in this case? I disabled NAT as I did not need. Basically, in the virtual network editor I'm pointing VMnet2 on the second physical network adapter that I want to dedicate for the virtual machine.

My network is 10.218.100.x\24 and I have a couple of addresses available for this. I have assigne.15 physical NIC host. I ai.16 par.20 available to use. Could someone provide a brief description of how I can configure the virtual network adapter to have one of these static addresses and be available on the production network?

No reason to change how the physical host gets its IP address for this interface NIC physical - if DHCP is left, if static, leaving too.

Treat your VM exactly as you would for any other physical PC on your network... If you have a DHCP server for this application/subnet field, then let it use DHCP; If this isn't the case, then set static - just as you would for any other real computer.

  • Ethernet link to the bridge network and server

I'm not an expert and hope that I do not use the wrong terminology, but I have an intermittent fault which has become more or less permanent. My major son put up for me a computer with Windows 8 as its operating system and a server for storage, connected by a cable to transfer files. The computer has its own router, with which it communicates with the local network based on a router and modem in the next room. There is a network bridge to access the internet. Initially (January 2013) it worked well. Sometimes, I couldn't connect to the server immediately, but simply another attempt was enough to access it, and he had no problem with the internet connection.

More recently (late July and August 2013), it became more difficult to access the server and now seems permanently impossible, the server simply showing with a red X across as one of the devices on the computer page. The Internet becomes also more difficult, although there is no need for the server or available to arrive and still connects for a short while before disconnect. In July, the internet can usually be restored by turning off the modem and the router, and when they were on again to restart Windows 8, but that no longer works. I tried to reset the computer to the previous settings, but without success. I also tried the diagnostics tools, but generally, they fail to address the issues identified, except for an occasional brief of the internet. Until today, it has always been possible to show the LAN on the network page, including the iMac computer and printer next to the router and the modem, but today the network folder showed most of the time as empty, any diagnosis I ran in the attempt to identify and connect to the local network, which today needs to manually connect even if automatic connection is checked. Conversely the iMac can still see the computer Windows 8 when he is awake through the LAN, but only in January, he sees the server.

The error or the troubleshooting messages that have been published are (1) to the server: the (network) path could not be found, or the name is already used. The IP given my son is 192.168.0.101, I tried and failed to find in the browser of my iMac, which does not suggest that it is already in use. Even if it wasn't a valid IP address, it would not have worked between January and July.
    (2) for internet access: reset of the card of network bridge that can force a reboot with a reference to the AREA of PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_ that I can't continue without an internet connection. unresolved issues can include one or all of the connection between your modem cable, router or point of access and the Internet is broken. "Network bridge" is not a valid IP configuration. the default gateway is not available. The computer in the other room has had uninterrupted access to the internet, so it is unlikely that the router or the modem it are at fault, who leaves the access point or the configuration of the network gateway. I found some of these error messages in the discussions on Windows 7, but not for Windows 8.

Finally, the watch status bar above all a network with limited access and a connected LAN ethernet bridge, which is not enough to bring me to the server or the internet; However, today the necessary local network setting procedure of discovery of devices running and by ticking the automatic connection to the LAN router in the next room, although both had previously been functioning. Is this the consequence of Windows updates downloaded and installed since January? Very briefly this afternoon after having restorng the settings they had on August 5, the convenience store was able to solve the problem of the bridge network, only for access to the internet to be cut shortly afterwards for lack of a valid IP, a problem solved configuration a few minutes before. Would it be possible to obtain internet access directly via the LAN network without the need for a network bridge, or is it a mistaken assumption on my part? Even if this is right, remains the problem of access to the server. Any thoughts anyone?

    Hi Clive,.

If you have included a lot of details about this question in the thread, I was unable to get a clear picture of the network configuration you have. What is the topology of the network that you set up?               How the server is connected to the network? What is a Client-Server network model you have?

If Yes, then this problem is better suited for it professionals about TechNet Forums that are well equipped with the knowledge of Client-Server network issue. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows 8 IT Pro Networking Forums from this link:

How to configure the network card installing ESXi on VmWare workstation 6.0.0?

I'm running on vmware workstation on Windows 7 with Lenovo laptop.

in the configuration of your virtual machine, the main issue is memory. you gave the 2 GB of RAM, whereas ESXi 6 cannot go forward without minimum 4 GB of RAM.

If please have 4 GB of RAM and re-run Setup. you will get through.

message about the network card should also not appear after that. What kind of network you choose depends on your need.

  • cannot change the network not jumpered it is no host not bridged network adapters

Hey guys, wondering that if you can help me with this, I've upgraded to windows 10 and have this annoying issue in vmware workstation 11

I want to VMnet2 only use my MIFI wifi and not my regular internet so I went to the virtual network editor like I did before and added vmnet2 but when I check the box for height to select the wifi it says "can't change network to not bridged there is no host not bridged network adapters" which has left me speechless >. <

Just a guess. Check vmnet0 (default bridged network) to see if it uses a dedicated, network adapter or is it still set to automatic.

  • Bridged Networking problem - comments may be crazy, but nothing else can connect

I have a few bridged networks confusion works correctly under VMWare Workstation 11. Installation is VMWW running on a Windows Server R2 2012 host with a Ubuntu LTS 14.04 server prompt.

Windows Server has a physical NETWORK adapter that is configured with two IP addresses.  For the sake of argument, that I will call the first IP 1.1.1.1 (255.255.255.192 subnet mask) and the IP secondary 2.2.2.1 (netmask 255.255.255.224).  Real IP addresses are all publicly routable.

In my computer, the network configuration is set to "bridged".  Inside of the Ubuntu VM, networking is defined as follows:

    2.2.2.2 IP address

    255.255.255.224 subnet

    Gateway 2.2.2.1

I can ping successfully the Ubuntu prompt from the Windows Server and other computers on the Internet, but cannot connect to any other service on the client (for example, SSH, HTTP, etc.), either from the host machine or any computer on the Internet. Note that both hosts and guests have their respective firewall disable for the moment.

However, if I change the VM network config in my computer to be "NAT" and set the networking of Ubuntu on DHCP, all services on the client are accessible on the host Windows (for example, SSH, HTTP etc.) via a 192.168.x.x dealt with this workstation DHCP assigns the guest.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why these services would be accessible to the NAT address, but not on the static IP address public when the latter may be ping from the host and other machines?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, managed to solve it with a violin.  The resolution was to create a new virtual network adapter in the virtual network Editor.  It has been bridged, with the physical NETWORK adapter selected in the drop-down list 'Bridge '.  In this case, this has created VMnet2.  Then in the VMWare Workstation GUI, I edited the network adapter settings to select VMNet2 in Network Configuration options.

No idea why it did not work with VMNet0 at first, but still...

  • Bridged Networking crushed Vmware Fusion 6.0.4 - replicable

I use the version of 30 trial of VMWare Fusion 6.0.4.  I can't sign up and download a .zip file officially, because I have to register the product first, and it won't let me register the serial number of the trial.  I won't pay until I am sure that it works for my use case.  So I have to resort to these forums.  Here's my reproducible bug:

I'm running a Windows 7 VM.  I used the import function to import this machine virtual of Parallels Desktop version 9.  It starts and works fine as long as I'm using NAT networking (shared with the host).  As soon as I switch to Bridged networking, it starts and runs for about 15 to 30 seconds, then crashes.

I used "Information Support" to create a zip of debugging information file and he have attached to this post.  Help!  I need to use Bridged networking.

    Hi petec35_2!

It seems that your guest uses frames (or Jumbo Packet), and which is currently to trigger this problem in Fusion.

To work around the problem: in the guest Device Manager, find the E1000/E1000e NIC, then a parameter in its property page should allow you to disable the Jumbo Frames/Jumbo Packet.

    See you soon,.

  • Need help to understand the network of vSphere environment

    Hello

I need your help in understanding the network environment in vSphere. Please see the diagram and the text below:

    vm.png

NIC #1 - Management Port (access from client vsphere, vCenter server)

NIC #2 - Port of VMkernal (for iSCSI, vMotion, etc.)

    NIC #3 -?

    #4 – CARTE NETWORK INTERFACE?

Q1 how allow external users to access services over the ESX host? (for example, IIS, FTP, Exchange, NFS)

Q2, what will be the role of the other two network cards? Is it connected to the physical switch?

    * Ask you all to please help me by sharing your knowledge / experience on the network portion, you have made in your environment as NIC how, what to do with that. *

I really need to understand the networking of concepts in vSphere, hope that your help!

    Best regards: Yash

With an additional NIC with 2 port a general configuration might look like this:

    vSwitch0 - vmnic0, vmnic1 (connected to different physical switches)

    Network VMkernel management

VMotion VMkernel network (own IP network, own VLAN)

Better if they is configured as active / standby.

    vSwitch1 - vmnic2, vmnic3 (connected to different physical switches)

    Trade VM

    vSwitch2 - vmnic4, vmnic5 (connected to different physical switches)

VMkernel iSCSI (own IP network, own VLAN)

Ideal if it is added to the component Multipath iSCSI, which is quite easy to vSphere 5.

  • How to configure the network device agent

I added a network device (router) in the new platform, its not to go for all of the alerts in tool Hyperic. How to configure the network device to get information to the Hyperic server. Do we need to do any configuration of SNMP.

    Can someone help me please.

    Hi Cyndhya,

Do you mean you want to see traps SNMP generated by your device network at HQ? To do this, you need to configure one of the agent HQ to receive traps and configure the network device to send the trap to the agent. Once this operation is complete, you should be able to add the device network platform (you must use the agent HQ for the monitoring network device connection).

Here is the step by step guide:

  • Configure the network

    All,

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not new to virtualization, but miss me something with vmware workstation (sitting on a XP machine)

I have 3 virtual machine on the subnet 172.16.0.0

    172.16.0.98 - gw: 172.16.0.99

    172.16.0.200 - gw: 172.16.0.99

    172.16.0.97 - gw: 172.16.0.99

    The gateway cannot be changed.

My physical network is on a different subnet and can not be changed (physical subnet 10.0.0.0)

    Physical IP: 10.0.0.122 - gw: 10.0.0.1

Question is how can I configure vmware network to connect to the internet and route essentially my virtual network with my physics?

I tried to configure routing in XP (the registry key activation) assign the IP of the gateway to a network only virtual (vmnet8) HOST 172.16.0.99 and everything set up such a GUEST network only.

I have always not internet ping for example.

I know that the solution would be to change the IP on the virtual machine, but it's impossible. I am reproducing a virtual laboratory at the University and I need these IP because the machine is blocked and I don't have root access.

Can anyone shed a light for me, please?

    Thank you very much

    Remaining

Because I already tried, but I don't know what IP address I have to ask the virtual interface (vmnet8). So my question is, in a NAT environment with vmware, how the NAT IPs'ed connect with the physical intf?

What should I do to make this happen?

    Ta

BTW: I'm not presumptuous, I knew that someone could throw a light for me ;-) Laughing out loud

The IP address of a virtual machine using shlou VMnet8 of course adapt to the VMnet8 IP subnet address. By default, which is a 192.168.0.0 a. You must change this subnet address and then you can use DHCP for your guests. The default gateway and DNS address must be the host VMnet8 virtual NIC IP + 1 address. It's almost always x.x.x.2.

  • DHCP bridged network problem

    Hello

I would appreciate if you could help me with this one. I've invited windows server 2003 running as a service in a host of xp. Don't ask why a service! I just need it!

I use bridged networks. The guest does not seem to get an ip address from the router dhcp off the map wireless of my host. There is something strange. At home, I have a netgear router and have no problem getting an ip address, the problem is at work where there is a linksys router. On the host, I have no problem with the linksys router.

Thank you very much in advance.

PS: by the way, I'm using vmware workstation 6.0.2

In fact... I think I'll ask - why?  If you run a guest as a service, you should look at using the free VMware Server product instead of VMware Workstation.   VMware Server is designed to run guests in the background.

At work, do you think they put in WiFi AP MAC address restrictions?

Consider the upgrade to Workstation 6.5.2. This is a free update for you.

  • Bridged networking issues Vista 64-bit

I have problems with the help of Bridged Networking in VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 with my host OS under Vista 64 bit Ultimate SP1 and guest of XP sp2/sp3 os and / Vista 32-bit.

NAT works fine but actually not.

    Things I've tried:

    Setting bridged adapter manually

    Deactivation of VM virtual cards

Definition of default gateway in home

    Vista firewall disabled

No matter what I do, I can't get a connection to the network via a physical bridge connection in the guest operating system.

Thoughts, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated, just NAT does not work for me I need to my VM appear to be on the same network as my host OS and other computers.

    Thank you

    Patrick Stuart

I would like to delete the default gateway hardcoded on your comments so that it does not cause problems if you fall in network work bridge.

What antivirus do you use on your host and guest?

There is a host of Vista - but I don't see the typical IPV6 entires in the output of the command ipconfig/all.  I just want to confirm that there is a reason for that (you manually disabled IPV6 or something)?

What is the 'virtual SafeNet QuickSec card' for your host?  What is a VPN product?  Features of firewall?  I'm here, but if you have the time, maybe try to uninstall this product to see if it makes a difference.  Here is another post about SafeNet for a different problem, but maybe try the suggestion it will help: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/11884
