Help! My DVD drive has stopped working.

When I insert a dvd, I can see the small CD icon on the screen, but never, it opens to display the content. I uninstalled and re installed the reader, but the problem persists. Device Manager lists the disk and told me that it works correctly, but also shows that the disc is full? What can I do to solve this problem quickly?

In fact, I have the same problem as you.

    Hello

Code 39 means that the driver is corrupted or missing.

Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Also check with your system manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers for your DVD. Or even if it
are you can reinstall the 'old'. Many use Windows default drivers however some special aura
ones. Also check the website of the manufacturer of the car.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • CD/DVD drive has stopped working and now not recognized in 'My Computer'

I have a HP Pavilion computer to office model a6109n, product number GG038AA, S/N CNH7250K0M. I've been running Windows 7 for 2 years. My CD player recently stopped working. I can't attribute this failure to any specific event that would have led to it.  When a CD is inserted, the green light comes on for about 6 seconds then turns off. The CD player is not long represented on the 'My Computer' to readers list. The CD drive appears in Device Manager. I tried to roload the driver for CD drive, Windows gave a message stating that the best driver is already installed. I have no error message and ran three programs different viruses with no problems. I've also updated Windows available current configuration that has not solved the problem. Thinking it was a hardware problem, I checked the CD drive cable connections and that did not help.  I replaced the CD drive with a new drive for HP and had the same symptoms. I returned the new CD player and he traded for an external CD drive and had the same symptoms in all USB ports. I tried every USB port with a flash player and the flash player saved on my computer in all USB ports. If my CD drive is being recognized by the Device Manager but not in my computer. It's okay if it's an internal or external drive. Everything else on the computer works fine. More troubleshooting ideas?  Thank you.

sfc/scannow                (Note that there is a space between sfc and /)

Let the entire process, then the output type and press ENTER.

Then, click on the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager.  Click to open the CD/DVD-ROM drives.  Right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.  Do not delete if requested drivers.  When the device has been uninstalled click the icon 'Search for hardware changes' (usually just below help in the toolbar).  Let windows reinstall the disc and see if it works now.

  • CD/DVD drive has stopped working

I have a Gateway M-1625 w / Windows Vista - since Adobe first Elements 7 installed a few days ago, I ben can't access the CD/DVD drive.  The Manager of said devices 'Windows cannot initialize the device of this material (code 37) driver"I had first uninstalled Adobe program.  Reading similar problems discussed in the forum, I tried to uninstall the driver, hoping that Windows Vista would put it after reboot.  Upon restart, the computer will display message "devide software driver was not properly installed - please contact the manufacturer of your device to help get this installed device ' device is HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM-GSA-T20F-ATA

I'm VERY inexperienced in this kind of thing!  Can you help me?

    Hello!!

If you have no experience, then do nothing, try to call a repairman or call the manufacturer and ask them to do it for you...

but try somethings first of all you can... I guess that your drive was working fine just before some software have been installed, try the system restore to the date when your computer was working fine.

to the system restore menu-> all programs from start-> Accessories-> systemtools-> systemrestore...

Choose the date when your system to work properly, select the calendar... and follow the instructions on the screen. Don't forget: read carefully the Instructions... :)

Ask if you have any doubt.

  • Satellite 1000-Z2 CD/DVD drive has stopped working

I had problems with the automatic eject button and have been doing it manually, and recently it was random when 'docking', so I reinserted, if not drive to work very well. Now he stopped to read the CD/DVD, and the entire computer freezes. Is it better to consider a repair shop or buy a new drive?

    Hello

Generally, if the drive is dead only the drive replacement will solve the problems. I don t think that it is possible to repair the disk.
But nevertheless, you must contact the service because there you can control compatible player. The problem is that not all readers are compatible with the device.
The ASP from Toshiba have detailed information about the compatibility of the device and you can be sure that you will get a good player at 100%.

  • DVD player has stopped working

I am running Vista Home Premium. My ATAPI DVD drive has stopped working. Device Manager shows it, drivers are updated, I tried Microsoft Fixit, nothing seems to work. I read about this problem, seems a lot of people have the same problem with no fix, what do I do?

I am betting its windows. So what is my options, buy windows 7. Maybe a different o/s. How many problems like mine have had to deal with?

Absolutely not... If the question is the disc or other material so you are stuck with a system
You can not install it on. And there may be serious flaws that are too expensive to repair.

Previously published several ways to use a variety of boot floppies to see if the driver will be
actually boot outside of Windows. If this isn't the case, then you have a more serious problem. If it isn't
startup then you should re - install Vista to be sure there is no other problems with the
disc before any thought of the upgrade.

I hope this helps and happy holidays!

    Hello!

The CD/DVD drive is listed in Device Manager? You see an error code?
If the drive is listed in Device Manager, you should try to remove it, and then restart the laptop.

Try to load the default settings in the BIOS.

Have you tried to remove the upper and lower filters by yourself? Here is the solution from Microsoft:

  • Qosmio G30 - DVD-ROM drive has stopped working

I have a Qosmio G30 age of 3 years and the DVD - ROM drive has stopped working.

He still pulls in, but it will not read or burn discs.

I received a quote of £360 Toshiba to adapt to a new one that seems generous.

Anyone know where I could get it fixed cheaper than you?
Or better yet... anyone know where I can I get it fixed?

    David Hutchinson

    Hello
This is not an answer to your question but can solve the problem if it is the same that I had.
In my case, the drive tries to spin but it slips. Only the motor shaft rotates and the drive remains at low revolutions that were not even stationary.
The problem was caused by the fact that the plastic part (black color) of the mechanism which engages the disc (CD or DVD) slips on the
motor drive, axle and th couldn't do a full rotation or runs at the specified speed.
The solution is to delete the article in plastic and put a small amount of super glue on the axle and then put it back.

Where there is a similar issue, I hope that solve you it like I did.

He then worked for a while, but only by using "Run as Administrator".

I uninstalled iTunes - and uninstalled and then re-installed DVD player - but it still doesn't work!
    Any solution please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My solution is to remove a Toshiba DVD drive and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can play all video formats, and you don't need additional codecs.
