Homepage changed when the computer is restarted.

Recently, I had downloaded adware on my computer. I then ran immediately all my virus protection software that has eliminated many of them. Somehow, it always seemed to linger. She had been spotted by one of my anti-virus software, but when he tried to remove it, it kept reappearing. Although it only happens when I restart my computer, it always brings me to a Russian site. I could not decipher what the add-on was either since it is in Russia as well. I tried to reset the settings of my FireFox, but it does not seem to remove it. It is very disturbing to me and I would be happy if there is a solution to this. If we need more information, ask. All help is accepted!

of course, you are very welcome - good luck!

I just got this Acer laptop with Vista Home Basic Edition about 4 weeks ago. For the first two weeks, everything worked well, could download, install and run programs without any problems. However, I now have problems.

I can download, install and run programs, but when I shut down or restart my computer, all recently downloaded programs disappear. When you click on the shortcut, you get the message "the program or file that this shortcut refers has been changed or deleted. When I go into Add/Remove hardware, the program is still there. However, I can't access it or shortcut on the desktop or in the start menu. This is getting extremely frustrating.
The first time this has happened with Firefox. I just uninstalled and started using Google Chrome or IE 7, instead. I have an account with Big Fish Games and was able to download games, that I had bought them without any problem when I got the laptop. However, when I try to download games now, this problem occurs and the program disappears. It is not even appear in Big Fish Games Download Manager where all my other games are stored.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I have solved this problem. I disabled UAC control and then restarted the computer. The last downloaded program is still there (downloaded at three points as he kept disappearing). I will now download some more and see if they remain when I restart the computer following.

  • Printer accepts documents, but stops the printing process before printing. Sometimes, it displays the items in the cache when the computer is restarted.

It is a Dell V313 printer which is now updated with all the mods of pilot.  The computer is a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7.  The printer worked well for several years, but recently (probably because of something I did), it is reluctant to perform a print job.  He wakes up accepts all the documents and store them in the cache, but it's going to be okay.  When I ask, he lists the documents as well as their size and says it's printing, but it is not.

Sometimes, after a restart, he wakes up and print all pending.  When it prints, it is nicely.  I have been through the provided diagnostic system, and all said that the printer is up-to-date and effective.  Except that it does not print pages.  Turn off mode 'sleep' and keep the thing going all the time work?  If so, how do I?   John

Thanks for the detailed explanation of how do to solve my problem.

  • Flash Player stops working when the computer is restarted. Why? It is always enabled.

That said, the permissions being stripped on files is a symptom, not a cause.  You might get away with the lock and blowing these files and things will work normally after that.

The point I want to drive home, it is that it would be smart to take advantage of the opportunity to save something essential.  You could just as easily be the first signs of catastrophic disk failure.  Having lost my share of data that has not been backed up, I always count these early warnings as gifts and take seriously at this point.  There are many good solutions free/good market online (especially if you don't have a lot of data that you really care), as well as traditional approaches to removable disk.

    1. When you have downloaded this game, looking where he was going to be uploaded to? that is, file downloads, Documents folder etc...

    2. just maybe, see if you can find it in Program Files.
Start button > computer > select system drive, is usually drive C:, C open; disk > Program Files. Scroll down and look for the game. It may be listed under the name of machine to. My Chessmaster, Grandmaster Edition, is the title from Ubisoft.

    3. all else fails, please do a system restore. Choose the date where you had games as your restore point.
    How to restore the system:

Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

Thanks for posting with us.  Looks like you have tried most of the boot options.  I suggest you remove all external devices and you try to start.  If that doesn't help you need to check the options you have on your recovery CD.  If you can start the recovery console and then try to run the following commands:

  • Windows Search is not be disabled when the computer is restarted

I installed an SSD instead of a HARD drive. I understand that the indexing service should be disabled for maximum efficiency of the SSD. I do this by disabling the Windows Search service (I stop runs and then disable-> Apply-> ok). However, if I reboot the machine, I see that it is enabled (delayed start).

How can I disable it permanently? Thank you in advance for your help!

  • HP Officejet 4630 portable printer: HP Officejet 4630 printer does not print until the computer is restarted

When I send a document to the printer; It shows in the print queue, but does not print.  When I restart my computer, the document will print.

The same thing happens whenever I have send a document to the printer.  I have a WiFi connection from my laptop to the printer.  The blue icon on the printer lights indicating that plugged.

Why does only work when the computer is restarted?  I ran the HP Support Assistant, and it does not find the printer; even if the printer seems to find the computer once I restarted the computer.

It's embarrassing to say and I'm not very technical interest.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Maggie78

    Thank you for your patience.

    You can try the following:

    Creating a TCP IP port

    1. print a Configuration Page to get the printer IPv4 address (you can also tap on the icon wireless on the front panel of your printer to obtain the IP address)
    2. on your PC, go to the Panel control, devices and printers, right-click the printer and on the left, click printer properties, select the Ports tab.
    3. click Add Port, select the Port TCP/IP Standard, then New Port and follow the instructions in the wizard.
    4. Enter the IP address of the printer.

Note that you can ALWAYS go back to the original port the HP software installed by selecting the HP port on the Ports tab (in the properties of the printer)

    Hope that helps!
