• Windows 8 ESD (Digital Download) servers are offline

  Dear community of Microsoft,

  For the last three days I tried to install Windows 8 on a desktop and laptop. A lot of calls and countless hours and instances of remote support has led to an escalation of the problem to a senior technical support engineer. I was told yesterday that I would need to wait for the technician, at a specific time window, they do today.
  The good news is:
  (1) it is not my PC, laptop, Wifi, router, ISP and general location on the planet, who have been troubleshooted, replaced, changed, updated, amended several times. Causing many hours of frustration, fresh (that I bought an additional product code) and finally resignation that I should just stick with Windows 7.
  The bad news is:
  (2) the engineer of Microsoft Support senior admitted that currently the method of ESD (digital download) upgrade of Windows 8 has been broken, not only that, it has been broken for at least three days for a large number of European and American clients.
  Why oh why did take 3 days and many calls and many hours for Microsoft to tell me this? Let me count the times I reinstalled the drivers, services, open ports, disabled ladies virus, removed the firewalls, changed routers WiFi, reconfigured networks, to new networks with different providers of Internet services and re-installed Windows 7.
  So anyone reading this and wondering why they see the Windows 8 installation/installation fail along the lines of:
  "Invalid data".
  "These data are incorrect."
  "Unable to connect to the Internet.
  "Failed for an unknown reason."
  "Download was not entirely successful.
  "Download task has not completed.
  You need to know that Microsoft's servers are currently the question. Microsoft should also acknowledge this publicly to avoid their clients lose a huge amount of time and effort.

• The generic host error and 100% CPU usage

  OK, I have a friend who has a problem that I tried to help him.

  two different problems what I beliave are related to each other. About every 4 hours a serive generic host error will go up. The only thing can be made once this error occurs, is a reboot. Sometimes this error happens at different times, but especially at intervals of 4 hours.

  Second problem is that one of the svchost.exe process will peg the CPU at 100%. Sometimes the generic host service will pass about 10 min. after that the CPU will 100% sometimes if you leave sit PC long enough for svchost.exe CPU utilization will be brought back to normal. It may take up to an hour or even longer.

  This PC had Mcafee at least 2 years, and all windows updates and dat files are updated. So it shouldn't be a virus. It is not get used for much more then the e-mail and web browsing lite. I have seen some information about the windows auto updater causing problem and followed the instructions to fix this. It will appear to work for the rest of the day then get back to the top. I ran about 5 different virus, spyware, malware, scans etc. on it and he comes clean each time. I've been a PC Tech for 12 years and checked and tried about everything I can think of short of formatting and to start over, the list of what I've tried is long to enumerate hear. I hope input fresh can help pinpoint the problem.

  I never liked using a clean install as a miracle solution. You never hear anything like that, more it can be a big pain in the rear to the person using the PC. So, any help would be appreciated!

• FQDNs for ESX environment when DNS servers are VMS within the ESX environment

  I was wondering,

  When the implementation of a new infrastructure from scratch, with an ESX cluster from scratch

  and when the servers DNS themselves will run inside the cluster,

  Then, it is advisable to use IP addresses instead of the domain name COMPLETE for the right ESX environment?

  Here's what I've done so far:

  -installed 1 ESX host

  -installed donain controller as VM

  -installed PSC and VCSA

  -created the new cluster

  -installed the second ESX host, added to the cluster.

  I installed a VM DC as the first thing after the installation of the initial ESX host, I could have started using the domain name COMPLETE for the ESX environment at this time.

  However, I didn't do it.

  For installation of the VCSA and when you add ESX hosts to the cluster, I used IP addresses instead of the FQDN names.

  It seems stupid and dangerous for me to use domain COMPLETE the ESX hosts themselves, because the domain controller is running in the cluster.

  So I used IP addresses only to ensure the ESX HA cluster and the characteristics of heartbeat stay ok if something were to happen to the DNS server.

  However, the VCSA installation and when you add hosts to the cluster,.

  the MISTLETOE gave me a warning, indicating that it is preferable to provide a FULL domain instead of an IP address name.

  I am of the opinion that if you have no physical DNS servers, it is not a good idea.

  My opinion is that when your nameservers inside the ESX cluster itself and you do not have 2 redundant external DNS servers, so it is not wise to use the FQDN for your ESX hosts, PSC and VCSA setup.

  In my view, using the property intellectual property is much safer in this case.

  I was wondering what is your angle on it.

  It is advisable to have a working DNS for vSphere environment however the use of DNS for things like vSphere HA have been removed in more recent versions of the product. Refer to the section of the guidelines of the general network of this document for more details: https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vmw-vsphere-high-availability.pdf

  With this in mind I wouldn't be worried about use of FULL domain for the addition of services like the ESX host, etc.. Failure where HA would be restarting the virtual computer, there is no dependency on DNS so it will continue to work as expected and, subject to the availability of resources the virtual machine starts on another host.

  According to your vSphere licenses, you may also like to consider the implementation of anti-affinity DRS VM to keep your DNS Appart servers and on different hosts. This can prevent your servers DNS are declining when the failure of a host. You must have Enterprise edition or later for this.

• How max cpu soul?

  It is therefore logic that SOUL would not be max on my cpu so its supposed to render in the background - but is it possible I can say SOUL to use all the resources available on a rendering?  currently when I send files to create soul so that it uses only 20 to 50% of cpu, how can I increase to 100%?  For comparrison, if I directly in first I get the same 20 to 50% but in AE if I turn comp - it will use 60 to 85% of cpu and other programs like xilisoft video converter if I convert 1 video it uses 60-70% of cpu.  I tried unsuccessfully to things: 1. project of rendering that is located on an SSD for another 2 SSD. stop all other adobe programs when the SOUL is rendered.

  The preparation of x264pro body/SOUL, I came across this bottleneck - IE not seeing 100% cpu load.

  Then... I did a test - I made a dummy encoder that has simply dropped the gross framework uncompressed on the floor (not even on the disc). This test showed how fast the SOUL/PProHeadless can make executives. He isn't - where nearly 100% loadon all hearts on a quad or higher computer base. This is why there are bottlenecks. My test used a static synthetic video image so that removed the HDD delay equation since there was no source of the disk images. The delay is the treatment within the SOUL.

  The reality is that SOUL via direct file or PProHeadless is relatively slow to create the raw frames uncompressed by hand out of the encoder. (They are called internally exporters).

  If the exporter is a compression method that is hard on the cpu (eg h.264) it will engulf all UC remains possible. So you'll see 100% on all processors.

  If the exporter has been successfully written, in parallel with the compression (IE "encoding"), SOUL/body creates (ie the "rendering") the next image using a 1 or more processor cores.

  If the export is a compression method complex at a time where he finished encoding surrounding, SOUL/body will have already finished the following uncompressed image. It's a good thing because there is no waste of time since compression engulfed the cpu when the following raw image was finished and Adobe sit around do nothing do.

  On the other side of the...

  If you are exporting with a simple compression method, for example, DV, MJPG, MPEG-Intra the exporter will have to twiddle their thumbs waiting for the next section. These are the moments you see all delays in the creation of the rendered raw uncompressed frame.

  Yes, the hard drive speed and available memory to reduce delays in the manufacture of a raw image, but the reality is that, for some codecs, it is just not practical to make the raw image & encode using 100% potential CPU.

  conclusion:

  1: just because you're 100% on all processors does not mean that you are doing well. You may simply have a twisted [complex] encoder implementation.

  2: you are not 100% does not mean that it is the hard drive or memory. It could be just the time required, the TEA needs to render an uncompressed image.

  If #2 is your problem close to the bottom of the reason. For example, if you resize your output in SOUL of an imported file then resizing is done on processors. If you drop this file into a sequence of the same size and speed, export of the body to the SOUL waiting in line, you then the Mercury playback engine available. The EMT is 10 x faster to do the resizing vs a multi-core CPU. -Then... If you go to resize, putting this 'thing' in a sequence and queue it!
