Host vCentre 6.0-level requirements?

Hi guys,.

Quick question, what are the levels of releases ESXi for managing a server vcentre 6? Can I use a server vcentre 6 to manage 5.1 hosts?

Thank you!

Yes, vCenter Server 6.0 is supported with version 5.0 or newer ESXi hosts. See the matrix interoperability of products VMware

  • Host profile in vSphere 6 - requirements of Maintenance Mode

I was instructed to check the profiles of the vSphere host 6.  The main reason why we don't use them in our environment v5.5 is because when you apply the profile of the host a host to perform a restoration, regardless of change in a significant way, there must be a maintenance of the host mode.  This poses an administrative challenge in my environment.

So, I have been instructed to read that vSphere 6 had updated Host Profiles to demand maintenance mode only if required by the properties defined by the profile of specified host.  I think OK, now trivial changes like adding that a group of ports for a vSwitch will not require the host to be maintenance mode trying to "clean up" the host with a profile of the host that makes this type of low level change.  Unfortunately, I still get the error "host must be in before maintenance mode a host profile can be applied to him" whenever I try to apply a profile of the host to a host that is in non-compliance, no matter how tiny change.

Everyone knows this?  I have something misconfigured?

vSphere 6: updates to Host Profiles - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

OK I thought about it.  This new feature to Host Profiles fact exist, but it only exists in the Web Client vSphere.  The vSphere client c# don't has not been updated to behave this way, it always requires a host to be in the mode of maintenance for all corrections.

  • Host SSD cache - how much required

recently installed ESXi (free) to use domestic test/study. ESXi starts on the USB.

I have 2 SSD for storage, a 1 to for VMS and a 64 GB for the cache host.

How does the host cache requires? I ask because I would like to use a part of the disk cache host to a dir on it to store ISOs of the OS I want to install on the 1 TB drive and test.

ESXi host does not host any-cache. The power of virtual machines. How many? Depends on how much you commit too host-RAM. If you do not commit too much RAM, you need not the host cache. And if you book all the vRAM to virtual machines, you do not have same virtual machine swap file (with vRAM booking 100% it will not be created).

In the worst case (when commit you too much RAM, no work of sharing/compression/balooning and all virtual machines all use the vRAM you assigned to them) you may need to host-cache of size SSD:

    'summary_of_vRAM_assigned_to_all_VMs' - 'host_RAM_available_for_VMs '.

But if your host-cache SSD is smaller, it will be used anyway. And when it is full, 'normal' permutation will be used (with VM paging files).

  • Addition of virtual computer network to a host in a cluster level

    Dear all,

I have two hosts Esxi running in a cluster under vcenter. The two hosts have two physical NETWORK card connected to the network and configured as trunk ports to VLANS, all traffic through VLAN for which we created them 'virtual machine port groups' under vswitch0.

Now for a new requirement, I need to add a new "virtual machine labeled network" under vswitch0, can I do vcenter, as I am connected to vcenter and I click on my desired host server go to his networking > vswitch0 properties and click 'Add to create my group of port required under vswitch0.

I used to do this on the hosts when we did not have a vcenter and ran hosts without a cluster environment. But now we have vcenter and the foregoing gave two hosts are under him. Can I do this with all the problems? I have to perform the same operation for the second host in the cluster?

If anything is unclear, please let me know. Waiting for your response.

    Thank you

You can create group ports for vCenter vm as well for a specific host.

    It won't make a difference.

  • How to associate a lov level requires a default value of default UI.

    Hi all.

    At this requirement:

-Created a table with a column to be displayed in the selection list.
-Created the LOV application level to fill the element.
-You want to associate LOV to default user interface table column and avoid the caveat: "the following columns have some display types requiring a list of values, but there is no list of defined values."

Is it possible?, I mean, even if the table as a data object, is outside an expecific application context, how to associate?

    Thanks in advance...!

No, I think that you cannot assign a static lov.

Use instead the sql below to use the static lov as a SQL query

    select l.display_value, l.return_value
      from apex_application_lov_entries l
     where application_id =
and l.list_of_values_name = 'YOUR LOV NAME'

  • Is there a way to get the list of hosts and its groups of belonging to the vCenter folder level in 5.5 web vsphere client plugin development?

    Hello

I need to get the list of all hosts and its groups of belonging to the vcenter folder level.

    1. I created a view giving the extension point: vsphere.core.folder.monitorViews.

    2. After this step, I wrote the constraint as in my class of mediator,

    var ListConstraint:Constraint =

    QuerySpecUtil.createConstraintForRelationship ( _contextObject, 'childEntity');

I was expecting a list of all child entities such as hosts, dc, cluster... But I have only the immediate child object which is only the Datacenter as my result.

Is it possible to get all hosts and vCenter folder level Clusters because I need the entire list to vCenter (highest level).

    Other info:

Object file has only two properties:

1 childEntity - list of entities

2 childType in-kind folder ('Virtual Machine', 'Data center'...)

Is it possible to write a constraint specifying which list of childEntities I need using childType in.

Example: Make Me childEntities that has a 'Host' and 'Cluster' childType but childType in doesn't have these two types.

In addition, at this level, I could see the 'Associated objects' tab which has all the information I need, such as Clusters and Cluster tab hosts and host tab respectively.

So, I think its possible to get this list to vCenter folder level.

I have attached a screenshot representing the need. Kindly ignore the Conventions of naming in there since I edited the example comes with the sdk program.

    Query:

    1. How can I get the host and Cluster (table of relationship) list to vCenter folder level or even at the level of the vise.global.view?

    2. once I get this list, is it possible for me to manipulate that list and send the new list to IU?

    3. is there another way to do the same thing without the help of model classes and mediator?

Pointers to this will be very useful.

It is not possible to obtain all hosts a folder specific vCenter from a single query Data Manager.  You need to get the list of centers of data first and then get a list of data center hosts.

It is best to make these repeated requests to the java level and return only the list that you want to the user interface.

You can get all the objects in the host of the system with a simple query using a constraint with targetType = 'HostSystem', but you will need to eliminate those from other vCenter servers.  See how this chassis example queries all hosts the Java later in the getHosts() method: samples/chassis-app/chassisRackVSphere-service/src/main/java/com/vmware/samples/chassisRackVSphere/ChassisRackVSphereDataAdapter.java

Another option is to use the vSphere Web Services SDK to browse vCenter. See the vSphere management forum for help on these APIs.  See this plugin of the sample using this SDK

  • How to mirror copy a level DB

    Hi all

How can I copy the Db layer under the name exactly as it is from the source to the target server?

I want to duplicate this db to the level from server1 to server2 without cloning?  It is this possible?

This means that I can start two identical database at the same time.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

If you also transfer Oracle Home, then you're going to at least make rebinding to the new server, given the directory of all the structures are identical.

It would be a database of EBS and you change the host name, adcfgclone running is required.

If ' he must accept constantly updates the PROD while newspaper archive "are only your needs, you can put the database in continuous recovery mode, then continue to apply archive logs. But I don't really see any use of the present. Better have a standby

  • Host to Active Directory integration

Hi, I'm trying to locate any information or not there's a vSphere license level required for the integration of commercials for ESXi hosts.  I found one of the VCP5 online documentation had answers for one of their questions of practice indicating that Enterprise Plus was a requirement with vCenter Standard edition.  No one knows for sure if it's true?

If so, you would happen to have any documentation of license VMware which States that?

    Thank you!

I'm not aware of this requirement and you can learn more about these links:

Configure a host to use Active Directory in the Web Client vSphere

What you read may be on Enterprise Plus is that any time we use Host Profiles to reset the local root password and use the host profiles you'll really need the Enterprise Plus edition.

  • Migration of VM - incompatible cpu host :(

    Greetings to all,

I just bought a new server (HP DL380 G8-Intel Xeon E5-2650 64 GB of RAM) on which I have installed VMware esxi 5.

in the data center, I had 3 esxi 4.1 host. I raised vcetner on the new server, version 5, and I put one of the 3 esxi worm 4 new vCenter.

    First, everything seemed perfect.

I wanted to migrate worm 4 to 5 machines and gradually raise the whole dc to version 5, but there is problem with the migration.

Ok no problem. I turn the machine off and migrate to the turning off of the State. I have install esxi 5 to one of the servers, and try on this new server to transfer power machine of new esxi5, but again without success.

You don't mention how CVS is currently configured for the cluster. Did you follow the article mentioned in the error message, then set it to CVS a base line that supports your different hosts?

  • VM automatically migrated back to ESXi host

    Hello

I recently installed and configured a Cluster DRS on vSphere 5 on the customer site.

In the cluster, we added 5 ESXi host. Four HP DL580 G7 with Xeon X 7560 processor and a HP DL580 G5 X 7460 Xeon processor.

Apparently the X74xx and the X75xx processors are not compatible for vMotion and DRS is impossible between ESXi hosts.

I tried to vMotion VM of a loaded ESXi, DL580 G7 host, for DL580 G5 the only customer, but the wizard gave me
    a compatibility error saying that;

"CPU host is compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register."

I tired to use EVC on cluster ma to make compatible CPU but no luck! could not execute predefined EVC profiles!

I just turned off the virtual machine, so I'd be cold - migrate to the ESXi host.

Could do when it was off, but when I turned it on it automatically ran on the previous ESXi Host which is held before the migration.

For me, it was strange! because firstly he moved successfully to the new host of ESXi, but came back on the other after power.

    I have two questions about the scenario above;

    1. why the VM turned their backs on the other host ESXi?

    2. How can I solve the problem of cpu compatibility?

    Thank you,

    NetRock

' VCA Can' active br because the cluster contains hosts that lack VCA-compatible equipment.

  • vCentre with vSphere Enterprise and vCentre with vSphere Enterprise Plus

We used 4 * VMware ESX Enterprise 3.5 U4 with Center Virtual v2.5 to our datacenter keys for 2 years. With the release of vSphere we have upgraded to vSphere Enterprise with vCentre since we had bought maintenance for 3 years.

Now let's deploy another 4 * vSphere Enterprise more than servers in one of our other data centers in another location and use of the vCentre same server as our key data center. Two data centers are connected via an MPLS connection.

My query is what is happening with regard to the two lic. and the characteristics of vCentre/vSphere so we have a places vSphere Enterprise Clusters and in another site running a vSphere Enterprise clusters rained for two configurations of the plant as the vSwitch distributed with Ent to a network running. More and the other added features more from the company. What happens if we use the Cisco Nexus 1000 what impact also who have on the global configuration if a site is running Enterprise and other companies.

And also how should I handle the licenses of some of my servers are Ent. and others are Ent. More?

    Thank you very much

Of course also take into account the fact that you can't mix and match servers with different levels of license

For example: If you use enterprise more to Host Profiles and dvSwitch - you can't have the ESX hosts with a lower level of the license in the same cluster

    Hi eltuga,

Officially the 2950 is not supported by VMware to run vSphere 6, see http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=server

Also the integration of the Dell OpenManage for VMware vCenter also does not support the 2950 more see the http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dell-mp-vc-3.0_Concept%20Guide_en-us.pdf compatibility matrix
