  • A Dell Inspiron 531 computer will be compatible with Windows 7? Conflicting information between sources.

I looked on these contradictory information, and here's what I found... I'm still not sure about that.
I found information about this Dell Inspiron 531 computergoing to be compatible with Windows 7 on the site of Microsoft and in the control panel of that computer system information.

But then I found more information on the Dell website that indicates otherwise.

Please follow me closely here, it took some time to compile this info.

Allows first eliminate what would be the simplest solution I already tried, that would be the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" located at this address: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/UpgradeAdvisor

On this Web page, there is a small program to download and install that is supposed to tell me if this computer is compatible with Windows 7 in processor speed, RAM, graphics card, etc. and devices, automatically... Unfortunately, it does not work... I installed it and it stopped with the message: "Windows 7 advisor stopped working" so that program and this option is unnecessary.

It is the "Windows 7 system requirements" list of information... it shows that I need at least a 1 GHZ processor or faster, 32-bit... This Inspiron 531 has a 2 GHZ processor and is 32-bit. This page is says I need 1 GB of RAM... it has 1 GB of RAM. It says I need 16 GB of available disk space, it has a C 138 GB primary hard drive which will be deleted when Windows 7 is ready to be installed. And he said that I need a"Graphics card DirectX 9 (with WDDM1.0 or higher driver)" ... the last part in parentheses is the only part that I'm not sure, but my system via the control panel information shows most of this information as being adequate.

Go to this URL: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/OM/appendix.htm#wp1149549 to see the Dell Inspiron 531 annex page online and click on the link above titled, 'Specifications' or just scroll to see... there in the category 4th down titled 'Video', it shows the "video integrated Nvidia (DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.9 Graphics Processing Unit) '. This seems to correspond to the above listed"DirectX 9" info page "Windows 7 system requirements".

But then there are 2 pages Web of Dell, which indicate that this Dell Inspiron 531 is only supported by Windows Vista and Windows XP... see this URL for this Web page... http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/osmatrix/index?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs& ~ ck = mn

It shows, once you scroll down just a bit, a list of the current Dell computers that can support Windows 7... the Inspiron 531 is not on this list.
This list excludes the Inspiron 531, but it then says' does not have a computer on these lists? Click here to shop for a new Dell! » .. .bad grammar side, this line that I'm pointing out may just be trying to sell me a new Dell computer, if I actually need or not Dell
    !

And finally my info the computer from the control panel shows aprocessor 2 GHZ, 1 GB of RAM or 958 MB anyway and the 32 bit OS.

And Yes, I ran the built-in diagnostic test Dell PSA on this computer and when it tests the sound card and the speakers, he plays the song a bit in each channel and then on both channels, so I know that the material is good on this computer.
I know it's a lot to go through... it took me a while to compile this info, and I sent a version of this letter with screenshots and other MS Tech in India who I worked with for a month on the phone and email to correct a problem of 'no sound' that simply cannot be beat.
But I'm trying to make sure before I do a clean install of Windows 7, when the disc arrives here, I don't clean it hard drive alone to experience Windows 7 does not work on this machine.
Actually, I'm a Mac user and I don't have much trouble in those... Just trying to fix the computer of my mother for it, and now it seems that trying to install Windows 7 is the only way to get the sound back so that my mom can enjoy some music again.
I never thought that I would like to know as well on the PC troubleshooting I've learned in the last month, but I don't like, and there is still no sound on this computer and everything has been tried... I made a collage of a hundred different error messages from Windows that I think I'll put it up for bid on ebay... I just want to go home to my trusty Macs.

Please give me your comments... I would of course welcome.
    Thank you
    NuMetro

I am happy that you have it installed, but you have sound?

I was too surprised when Windows 7 to install all my drivers in device for me!

The video driver that it wanted to install was even later that of Nvidia. Also, it does not have the driver Physx I needed, so I had to install one myself. The other driver, that he has not installed was the pilot for the X - Fi card. He did install my motherboard if chipset drivers, but I turned around and installed ones that came with my motherboard.

Windows 7 does a better job to settle on earlier versions of Windows, but do not watch install what he wants to make sure that it does not have something that you don't want. He came along and updated my video driver again, but when that happens, it installs just the driver itself and not the driver Physx and my video control panel. Now when he talks about video drivers, I just go to Nvidia and download the full set.

You have the option in there for Windows Update to select which updates you want to allow. I would have put to allow you to decide which ones you want and do not let do it on his own.

I'm glad you're a happy camper! I do not see where you come with Vista, I jumped on this operating system completely because of the horror stories I've heard.

    Hello.

I'm having a problem loading and using my Adobe Photoshop CS3. This is the third time that I use this forum. I us a PC. The operating system is "Microsoft Windows 7 Home prem". I recently had to remove from my hard drive and reload the operating system with all the updates and load to the top of my existing software. All my software works except my Photoshop CS3, which I use most. I loaded the software disc and download online. The system of charge very well and activation is complete.  Here are the main things that don't work properly, I have noticed so far. First of all, I can't open my camera RAW (I can with my Lightroom software, but not with my Photoshop software?). So I can't open any of my files of digital camera? Second, I can open a .jpeg file and use the Photoshop software and I can save the changes, but when I turn off my calculated the software doesn't seem to be on my computer. When I go to Windows ' search program and files "software is not located here. When I go to "Uninstall" the software of the foldername is there it is. "Photoshop CS3" but there isn't any size file to it IE 400 MB, while my software "Lightroom" on the 'uninstall' section will have a file for example size 400 MB tied to it. Thirdly, I also have a photosoftware of B + W, which operated in Photoshop; It's "NIK software - Silver Efex Pro" and it is located in the subtitle of 'filter' of Photoshop CS3. I use Silver Efex and all functions are working properly, but I can't save the file, it does not save the changes to save.

    Please can you help me.

    Thank you.

  • New Dell Inspiron 7537 and want to downgrade to Windows 7

How can I determine if my machine will work correctly with Windows 7? I suspect that the touch screen no longer works, but all the keys on the keyboard will map correctly and all other devices installed at the factory work?

    Thank you

Try to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to get an idea of what are the devices that you might have problems with:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=20

You will also need to buy your own license for Windows 7, since I do not know that the Inspiron would not come with Windows 8 Pro installed to allow the "free" downgrade rights.

  • How can I fix the redirects when using Firefox 30? Windows 8.1.

I've redirected and/or pop ups using Firefox 30 with Windows 8.1. He started immediately with the download of the said Windows 8.1, so I think it came with this download, and although I have run deep scans and even a pre-start with Avast scan, as well as a scan with IObit Anti Malware, I always get the redirects or pop ups.

A smart redirection (context sensitive) it's trying to get the money from you. For example, I had tried to stop the pop ups [redirects, maybe] with the pop-up blocker probably integrated into Firefox, but Firefox Help leads me to an # 800 who offered to connect remotely and fix my PC with certified technicians as you will see in the chat below. He appeared as a function of Firefox, not a redirect.

Just after the chat with the 800 suit, I opened FireFox and he went to the (default) url: start.mysearchdial.com/ and a hash string more, which is perhaps how popups spreads?
I'm from mozilla via a url and soon encouraged me to download the new version, saying a current obsolete. But he was not going to download it from: http://downloadsoftware.pw/download/firefox2/

He isn't very smart, it is also resistant to many software removal tools.

What could suggest you? I tried not many of these tools yet.

MySearchDial must have an entry in the Control Panel, but may also have fangs in your browsers.

Control and cleanup that will take a few precautions. I suggest starting here:

Open the Control Panel, uninstall a program. Click on the column heading "installed on" to group infections, I mean additions by date. This can help the undisclosed items bundle smoker who snuck out with some software, you have agreed to install. Out as much garbage as possible here.

Then, in Firefox, open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, in case of doubt, disable (or delete, if possible) not recognized and unwanted extensions.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

Finally, you can "absorb" remain problems with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware.

  • How can I determine why my netbook won't start in Windows XP Home Edition?

I have a netbook Acer Aspire One A0751h multiboot, which recently stopped starting in Windows XP Home (SP3).

I have NOT a CD Windows XP Home OEM (because the netbook does not comes with one).  I can boot from an external USB CD/DVD drive, but this does not help me much because I do not have a Windows XP Home OEM CD.

My boot (GRUB) menu allows me to start in:

    • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (which would be defective, even in safe mode - it crashes after loading the driver for agpCPQ.sys)
    • Windows Vista (loader) (Acer recovery Partition)
    • Ubuntu 11.04 (various kernels - currently 2.6.38 - 11-generic (Natty Narwhal))

If I try to start Windows XP, it hangs up the PC (even in safe mode).

If I boot on the Acer Recovery Partition, I have the options to wipe my system back to factory settings, or move my user data to c:\backup and reinstall Windows (or what is desirable from a distance).

If I boot to Ubuntu, I can mount the Windows Partition to/media/ACER in two clicks.

    How do I:

    1. find out why Windows crashes and won't boot (can't connect to the faulty startup? I tried boot logging and impossible to find a newspaper)?
    2. Difficulty of Windows (I've already scanned the drive under Linux to find errors, and he comes clean)?

If I have to, I can back up my content from the boot drive in Ubuntu, but I tell myself that I should be able to fix my Ubuntu system just as easily (SHOULD be the keyword).  Remember, I can access all the files on my computer from Ubuntu.

    Help!

EDIT: Note that I JUST found that I can boot from a Windows XP Professional OEM CD and enter a recovery console.  Not that this helps me a lot, I can handle files of Ubuntu.

    Hello:

Sometimes, recovery disks don't work much matter what you do.

You can install W7 without Dell logo using the method below.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • Is it useful to reset my Windows Vista Home Premium?

He is three years old (he got the summer three years ago) and it is moderately-heavily used, as in, it is used every day, and there are many programs and files downloaded and installed I do not use. Through my computer and delete all of these files would take much more for a long time that simply reset and its replacement by backups.

My computer is idle or, at least I think, however, I was maybe just more patient three years ago.
In addition, please don't suggest you get a new computer, or to download a program to uninstall other programs for me, because my computer spastic and these programs tend to crash.
Ah, Yes, that's another question. Some programs that I want to use more (Skype, Apple Software Update, RegClean, etc.) crash as soon as I opened the, and there seems not to be an error with the program, because I posted on other forums vain.
So, is it useful to reset my computer? I can do that easily, it will take little effort. Basically, I want to say it's worth it, is, she will fix these issues, such as the opening of the program slowly and crashes random application? Thanks in advance.

    Hi MitchellKager,

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Step 1: Start in safe mode and check if the problem persists.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, you can put your system to boot (in normal mode) to solve the problem.

  • Invalid # license when upgrading from vista to windows 7 using hp W7 Home Prem upgrade disc

    Hello

I bought your desktop at the end of Vista so I got a free upgrade to Windows 7, which made me send HP.

However, until the last days vista was work fine.  When he had problems, rather than research the issue, I finally used Windows 7 Home premium upgrade disk from HP that I got for free weeks after I bought my computer.

The upgrade went very WELL!  Until the end when W7 asked me my license number.  I entered the license number of Vista (which is the only one I have ever had - I have not received a license # with the upgrade).  Window 7 crossed the verifcation license and told me that my license number was invalid.

I tried to discuss with HP, but the site won't let me that my computer is no longer under warranty.

How can I go about solving this problem?  I have to call HP and get a license number or what?
