Technical support would call me out of the blue?

I just got a call from a number of Brit Virgin is saying they were with the Technical Support of Windows, I was getting a lot of error messages, and they would show me how to fix them.  They wanted to get me intowww.ammyy.com.  I asked a callback number and asked how they got my name and phone number. They said it's from my client code. Is it a scam? Someone of another that has never happen?

Absolutely not. It is a scam. Discover the MyWOT score card on the link below where others have published which have been taken by the scam.

  • Technical support please - mistake made by moving the large number of files and folders to archive HD, lost of metadata and develop settings, how to correct the error.

Hoping to hear support or senior tech posters that I made a huge mistake by following the instructions of a person who thought they knew of Lightroom, but didn't.

Mac Pro, OS 10.10.3. 5.7 Lightroom

    Question:

Moving about 750Go of files and the associated image files from my drive to Studio work TB 3 to a new 2 TB drive Archive. The first set of records, I moved to in Lightroom, that went well but has been very slow to do that I could move only 12 files at one time or the locked system. After looking online I've been advised to copy all folders that I wanted to go in the Finder, simply drag / drop files from one drive to the other and then synchronize from Lightroom. Files moved OK, but as I guess I should have generated. The XMP files in the moved files no longer have metadata or the development parameters.

I did not do any work Lightroom since that, so I have the old catalog in Time Machine (hopefully!-j' heard that there may be problem with Lightroom and Time Machine catalog). I also have copies of backup of the work unit until I moved the files.

I have 2 large jobs, I need to change as soon as POSSIBLE, so need to quickly solve this problem or the LR catalog is going to change and I will not be able to go back.

Ideally, I'd like to talk to Technical Support in order to go through the steps and explain what I did and make sure I don't lose any data. Is there a number to call? The phone tree says no support for LR phone now...

Good to hear! In the future if you want to move your image to another drive files proceed as I pointed out here: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

It greatly reduces the possibility of this kind of problem happens, and when it you will know because the number of folder, number of files, or size on the disk will not match. Try again until they do not match before reconnecting them with the LR catalog. Computers are dumb... then work smarter.

  • I received a phone call from someone who said they were the Windows technical support. I did not understand the person that he was a stranger

The person calling said he could give me a technical support for problems that they had detected with my computer, but he seemed surprised when I said that I had problems with my computer.  I did not understand a lot of what he was saying because of his foreign accent.  Can someone tell me what it is?  I don't think that I may have a virus, but Windows actually call for help?

You were lucky that you could not understand him and so do not buy what he was selling.  It was a scam.  Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls.

Insofar as thought, you could have a virus...

  • Technical support windows call not requested?

I just got a phone call from the Windows support. Lady asked me to press windows and r. subsequently a screen with warnings appeared. Unable to get a direct response of the Lady on what was going on, so cancelled phone call. Worries me now that I opened my computer up to pirates. Any advice would be very welcome.

    NO, it's a call of 'SPAM '.

Ignore them, hang up, don't give them any details and do not allow access to your PC.

    See - https://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

If you have entered a few commands that she gave you, then you are likely to be OK according to what were the controls. Often they are simply watching the event logs or information UUID. If only awaits you and you gave no specific details of return, then you're OK.

But if they have installed anything, or if you allow them access, or gave them no information, so you can be compromised. At the very least "What to do if you have already given information to a tech support person", see in particular:

    • Change password of your computer, change the password on your main email account and the password for all the accounts financiers, especially your credit cards and credit.

    • Scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner to find out if you have malicious software installed on your computer.

This a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

    1 reinstall Windows properly

    2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

  • Out of the blue my HP C4205 stopped the connection and is simply display offline?

I just received this print by a friend that it is no longer used, replaced black ink and after you get the printer to recognize the new cartridge, it was good to go. Now a week later all of a sudden the printer shows offline and will not be a link to the PC at all. The printer still works even if, like the copy function works.

Using my logical head I'd say it's the cable (I checked that it is plugged properly), but I know printers can be very finicky sometimes so hoped there was a way out of trouble before you go out and buy another cable.

I use windows 7 32 bit, any help would be appreciated...

Varial, have you installed the printer using the CD that came with the machine? If so initially, allows to run although the process of unistalling the printer and reinstlaling it.

Start by going through programs and features, devices and printers and Device Manager and make sure that the printer software is completely removed, uninstalled or deleted.

Then in the start menu, click RUN and type "%temp%" and press ENTER. In the folder that opens, I want to delete all the files and present records which will allow you to remove them (some will not allow you, and that's fine).

After doing all this and restart your PC, follow the link below and install the software full control and available through the download of HP drivers:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=MP-74842-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&OS=4062&product=3619474&sw_lang=

Let's start here, and if that does not work, we will try other solutions. My next idea is to use a different driver than the one you have been downloading in its place.

  • Loss of the network connection, drivers is may be corrupted or missing (code 39) on the network adapter. Just happened out of the blue.

System worked very well. Integrated NETWORK interface

Do a scan of malicous software from Ms. All of a sudden stopped and gave the failure error message. Closed the program and tried to run AV--CA could not connect to the network.

Reboot, etc. and no network connection.

Tried to uninstall the network drivers (all had exclaimation point) but couldn't - "device may be required to boot" (even tried in safe mode)

Tried to update the drivers with copy of the drivers (from CD) - said he could not.

Put in an adapter external network - same mistakes with it.

Help - don't know if the software MS pooched my drivers or other files? I really didn't ' want to reinstall the operating system and any other software.
