You can not.

In addition to their exe files, there are many other components of almost all
programs - references to them in the registry and elsewhere. You can not
save these references and programs do not work without them.

  • How can I save my favorites with a backup program?

Prior to Firefox 4.0, I could tell my automatic backup program to back up the file "bookmarks.html" in my profile folder. Now that the file is the set of default bookmarks that comes with a newly installed Firefox, it is not my favorites. I also can't just load a bookmarks.html file in my browser as a standard Web page.

How is it an improvement for the management of bookmarks? It's terrible. I can't keep my favorites saved automatically. Not manually I export my file Favorites every time I add a bookmark! That would be ridiculous.

You can make Firefox 3 create a backup automatic HTML (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox, if you set the pref browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML true on the subject: config page.

The backup is created by default in the profile folder bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and the path through the pref browser.bookmarks.file on the topic: config page.

This pref does not exist by default, and you may need to create a new pref browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML string and set the value to the full path of the file backup bookmarks.
Note: an HTML backup preserves tags and annotations, to lose them if you need to import the backup HTML.

To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.

If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page.

You can use the filter at the top bar of the on: page config to more easily spot a pref.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

  • WIN8: backup program and password at startup

I have a brand new model Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b013cl running under 64-bit Windows 8. Two questions:

    (1) Win7 was a program of restoration that could create a disk image with full backup, but Win8 seems to have just a file by file backup system that excludes the files of the OS. A more capable backup program comes on this computer?

    (2) I have configured the computer to not require a password at startup, but it is still asking one. When I start I see a screen with the date and time - I have to click on it and then the machine asks me a password. How can I go directly to the home screen when I start?

  • c: drive has 10% free space d: has 99% free, how to transfer programs from c to d?

How to transfer programs from c to d?

    Hello

Have you tried to clean the junk files that are normally found on your c: drive? To clear the temporary files click Start-> run, type & -> % temp %-> click ok. Delete all files in the temp folder.

Also to recover space on the partrition, you need to run Disk Cleanup and compress old files. See also http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324.

To start disk cleanup, open my computer-> click drive c :->, right click Properties-> you get a tab for disk cleanup.

If you do not plan to uninstall the service pack you can try to remove the $NtUninstall in the windows folder.

Note that the folder is marked as hidden, so to see it, you must have configured Explorer to show hidden files/folders.

You can also (for the record of $ $NtServicePackUninstall): If you want to keep these files to uninstall later goal you can make a backup of the folder to a CD for example and replace when uninstalling.

You can also try disabling the system restore and disable hibernation (Hibernate mode writes an image of what you are currently working on a special folder on your hard disk and then shuts down your computer almost completely). To turn off Hibernation: click Start-> Control Panel-> Performance and Maintenance->, click Power Options.

If you want to move the files to program from C to D, the best way is to uninstall and custom install applications on the D drive.

    I hope this helps.

  • Please I can't find any backup program in my windows xp.

so, how can I backup my data? and even when I backup using Norton online

and try to restore my backup it would not restore my files. There is therefore no backup program
I can find and even restore program does not work. What should I do?

If you are running XP Home, XP Backup utility does not automatically get installed - you have to install it yourself.

If you're using a Norton/Symantec product and operations of backup/restore fails, you should probably take with them.

There are also problems with the Norton/Symantec product and XP System Restore feature.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.

Here's how to install the XP Backup program if you use XP Home:

The backup program is automatically installed on XP Professional, but not on XP Home. If you have the genuine bootable XP Home installation CD, insert it into your system and navigate to this folder:

    \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP

Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the installation.

Here is a nice article from Microsoft which tell you all this:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=302894

Here is another article that explains how to:

If you don't have an installation CD and need to download the Ntbackup.msi file, here is the link:

Original title: with a WD external drive backup program

I have a WD My Book Essential 320 GB external drive. The Windows backup program does not recognize the drive... The drive IS recognized on my computer and I can access and transfer and copy and paste to it without problem. It's just the backup program which does not. No error message or anything. Only, it does not recognize the drive when I get to the destination area. I tried to update the drivers. The WD support site has Backup downloads for OTHER external drives, but not this one. Their Web site says to contact Microsoft support. Any suggestions?

Successfully, I formatted the drive using autoplay.  However, when I try to run the backup program on the formatted drive, I get a prompt to format the disc again after a few minutes, I get message that format could not be completed.  Is it possible that the window backup program is corrupted?  If so, how should I do?

I had these problems and many others using DVDs to make the backup of files.

Please save you time sitting in front of the computer, the power to the machine with the DVD and the aggravation of not working do not after all.
Invest in an external hard drive for backup of files. It is the most effective way.
These days, a 1 TB external hard drive can be had for less than $100. It's money well spent.

  • How to remove programe files that remain in the registry after I uninstalled these programs?

How to remove programe files that remain in the registry after I uninstalled these programs?
I uninstalled Nero 8 on my system (Windows Vista Edition home premium, 64-bit dell 1737 studio system); but several Nero files are always stuck in my registry. How can I remove them without destabilizing the system? Thank you.

Yes, Nero is a software that I hate. I liked Nero until 6 version, I think, but after the Version 8 and 9, it was pathetic.

2 years ago I had uninstalled a lot of software and there were many many registry entries obsolete - when a search I found that a member of a forum on the Web recommend CCleaner.

Used from 2 years - each time without making registry backups. He never did wrong with my two PC - Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 SP1 (previously Windows 7 RTM).

    The registry cleaner is fantastic.

In which case you can try it, here's the download link.

WARNING: Installation be sure to uncheck the installation of Google Chrome options.

CCleaner automatically prompts you to create backups of registry before she cleans up the registry. The choice is totally yours.

  • How to add programs to the start of the file using Vista

How to add programs to the start of the file using Vista

    Hi Harry,.

Oddly enough, you can actually do it in msconfig except if it is already there and simply not checked as opposed to not being do not at all (although you would think that they would understand this option).

The easiest way is to add the program (or a shortcut to the program) in the folder all Menu Programs Startup.   Here is the procedure: http://www.ehow.com/how_5098465_add-startup-programs.html.  Remember, to do this, you must either a shortcut existing (perhaps on the desktop or elsewhere in the menu all programs) or you need to find the source file (probably somewhere in C:\Program Files depending on what you want to add) and either copy it and add it to the startup folder or right-click on it and create a shortcut to copy into the startup folder.  Once you reboot, this program starts during the initial commissioning process and you will now be able to control using msconfig.exe, if you wish.

Another option is to do this by using the registry editor.  If you decide to try this, first create a restore AND system restoration point backup of the registry before you begin.  Here is the procedure: http://www.ehow.com/how_7304438_add-program-msconfig-regedit.html.  I recommend to use this ONLY if the previous procedure does not work for some reason any as long as that the procedure is simpler and safer.

If you want a simpler way to manage and control startup programs, you can try it free WinPatrol http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html that change monitors for startup programs if you set it to run in real-time so that you know when to try new programs are added to your Start menu and, for the purposes of this question includes an Add button which opens a link to a window of Windows Explorer where you can browse the program you want to add, click open to select and then add it directly to the commissioning.  If you prefer it does not work all the time, you can simply uncheck the box which includes this program and it will work only when you choose to run (but at the start, will work as an indication otherwise or configured).  It will appear not in the start menu in all programs (Finally, WinPatrol is, but not programs, it adds to the start), but it will appear in WinPatrol (which also lets you manage what you want or not start with checkboxes as in msconfig) and sure in msconfig - but only after a reboot is complete the process of adding.

I hope this helps.  Personally, I use WinPatrol myself and let it run in real time.  Since I do a lot of installations, it helped me often prevent the addition of a startup item I haven't really need and reduces how many times I actually need to check what is happening out there.

If this answers your question without the need to repost in another forum, please mark it as an answer.  If this isn't the case, then of course you must republish as suggested above.

    Good luck!
