How to connect a laptop Windows XP Home Edition on a monitor using VGA.

Hello

I have a broken HP Pavilion DV1000. I don't see anything on the screen when it is tilted to normally, so I have to bend down a little to see something. for this reason that I want to connect to an external monitor using a VGA cable. Connection of a monitor on a computer Windows XP is not as simple as do on a Windows 7 PC. I don't want to extend my desktop on the monitor, but want to show my desktop on the monitor. With Windows 7, it is not a problem.

Please give me some advice!

Thank you.

I asked 4 different questions and they all send my back on the same site which will not complete the download, I read something on the use of disk to do this but can not find the site again. Help, please!

    Hello Linda,.

One of the problems that you have is not knowing the best way to use this forum. If a proposed solution to a question does not work, you must reply to this message and tell the person why he does not. You answer by clicking on the button answer at the bottom of the post.

Creating a new question for this issue, it is not the best way to get your issue is resolved.

That said, if you read the instructions I have given in this thread...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_xp-windows_update/i-am-trying-to-update-my-Windows-XP-Home-Edition/ae21928e-62B0-4D2E-92E8-a9f1d35da16a

.. you will see that I said you don't need SP2, you can go directly to SP3. This may or may not solve your problem of download, but I do not think. If my suspicion is confirmed you can try to download on another PC or use another browser like chrome or firefox?

If download you on another PC, you can save the service pack setup programs for, for example, a USB key, which you can then take the PC afflicted and run directly from the key.

If you chose to go with my instructions, answer in this thread or in the thread above but stick with you answer in whichever you choose. Do not start a new question and do not switch between threads when you reply.

Or, if you want to support PA supporter who also answered one of your questions here...

  • I can't move my laptop Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional by using Windows Anytime Upgrade

I have been unable to upgrade my laptop Windows 7 Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional by using Windows Anytime Upgrade. I have a genuine Windows 7 Professional product key, but I'm not sure whether it is an OEM version or retail. The product key works for the x 86 and x 64 editions? I do the upgrade using the disc?

Yes, this works for 32 and 64-bit architectures as long as they are the same edition.

Please note that the Express upgrade does not support OEM, MSDN-Academic, Volume (the student faculty licenses) license. If you are in possession of all these brackets, you will need to save and do a custom clean install. If you want to do it, please backup your Windows 7 Home Premium or according to edition currently installed. Some licenses for Windows distributed to tertiary level students are not perpetual, which means that you cannot continue to use the software after a course or graduating.

See Page 5-8. Your laptop is so old, it's using PATA hard drives (not SATA). They do a PATA SSD, but frankly, they are more expensive that the laptop is worth. Here's a 128 SSD PATA concert which works perfectly.

I fell into a couple SSD PATA, someone gave me and I have improved a few portable older on the vintage of yours. There was a major improvement, although much modern material progress are not present. The drive is just considered as a hard drive, but you always get the best speed, warm-up, etc.. I'm not sure about investing $150 in this laptop. They have some PATA SSD smaller and cheaper at newegg.com.

  • Unable to activate Windows XP Home Edition after the repair facility.

Of that, I was running a Dell Dimension 5000 bought from the Dell website in 2005. After this computer from run very slowly, I decided on an upgrade. So I removed the hard drive of this computer with XP Home Installation and everything what it intact and plugged the hard drive into a completely new computer (that I bought and customized piece by piece). I also installed Windows XP Pro using the ability of XP to run dualboot. Now the Pro works well, but has of course none of the programs of the host OS installed as even if Pro and Home are installed on the same drive C, Pro of course did not the registry of home settings. That's fine, but when I chose the House to the splash screen immediately after my computer upward once again, I have encountered an error saying that Windows has shut down the computer to prevent damage etc. by a blue screen of death. So I fixed installed House, by inserting the Home CD in the CD drive (which is also new and I bought, not even the one from my old computer to 2005), choice of APPETIZER and not the repair console and then clicking R to repair the detected existing OS. I fixed installed and I was thrilled when the problem has been resolved. When I chose the House and after having set up, I was greeted by the familiar screen with users that I had set up on my PC of 2005. When I clicked the user admin, typed the password, he accepted the password and then a box came up saying I had to activate Windows before I could open a session. By clicking on the number resulted in the user disconnects automatically before the start menu or desktop appeared. Clicking Yes led me to a screen that gives me the choice to choose between online and phone activation. As my entire computer (except for the hard drive) is new, the internet network adapter is also new, and that's why the internet settings (the 2005 model old) which I had not yet changed on the Pro Installation do not allow me to activate via the net. I tried via telephone following all the instructions and punch in the 25 digit code generated by the wizard in the phone and told me that the operator could not generate a code (for me 2 type in the boxes provided and therefore use to activate XP Home). I then shut down the PC, went to the installation of Pro, changed the IP settings according to the instructions given to me by the ISP to the phone and checked the net now works on installation of Pro IE. It worked, and I now turned off, chose the House and tried to activate on the net and there is not yet well make sure that my computer is connected to the net. I even clicked on the phone option and changed my ID by typing my OEM 25 product key numbers and clicking Refresh. I tried again by phone and still could not activate my installation in a House. The installation CD home I used was the 2 me by my Builder (a purple disk saying OPERATING SYSTEM: ALREADY INSTALLED on YOUR COMPUTER). This CD certainly isn't a forgery because I ordered directly from DELL and not even the 2005 Bill to prove it. Is it because I changed my system components and not my hard drive with it, which is the origin of this problem? How can I fix this without backup everything and remove the installation of the House and then re - install?

"ArjunC" wrote in message News: 3df4138b-2174-4cb1-821e-0527dc60da2c...

In fact the Windows XP Pro has been installed by the people who moved the hard drive to the new computer. I never asked for it. But remove XP Pro still wouldn't solve my problem. I need to find a way to use my original of 25 characters product key or get a key of success generated by phone so that I can log on to Windows XP Home Edition and continue to use my PC as how I used my old. Some people have told me that I can convince to install MS by phone that I transferred the disk hard - 2 a new computer and then tried a repair but the problem is that all the numbers given on Activation Wizard phone are automated, giving instructions, asking the ID generated by the wizard and then telling me that they are unable to generate an ID for activation. If there is human here, how do you convince a machine of my innocence :)

You need to reinstall using an XP Home OEM disk - see if one of your friends has one you can borrow. The key on your COA sticker will be valid for this.
You can also contact Dell and ask them to provide a set of disks in your machine - for a price.
