How to connect to a logic unit number?

I have an ix4 - 300 d and created a logical unit number. I installed the Lenovo storage on a Windows Server R2 2012 machine Manager and connected to the LUN, however, I don't see the S: drive in Windows Explorer.

Anyone can send a step by step, to correctly configure the LUN and plug it on the server?

Hello Linc0,

You can use the native Windows initiator to mount the iSCSI disk:

    Sometimes, when I run a test of the recovery plan that it does not connect to one of my LUN in a RecoverPoint consistency group.  Is there a way I can connect to the LUN when running always the same test?  The same would be true if I would with failover, can I connect to a unit number logic which have not mapped for some reason any after the execution of the recovery plan for the virtual machine online.

    you really need to trigger an SR to see why the lun is not mapped. is the lun of a data store or a RDM vmfs?

    common causes (assuming here all LUNS are in the same consistency RP group):

    -device not picked up by refresh, difficulty because it is to increment the RS parameter to run > 1 rescan for the storage of preparation step (see MRS. Advanced settings)

    -data store not picked up by discount vmfs (SRM a timeout when refreshing VMFS which can be increased)

    -datastore not zoned properly on all hosts, look to see if some hosts have access and not others... which is usually a sign of your problem is one of the first two points and it is easy to see in the SRM newspapers so you should hire vmware support.

  • Move the file to the vm to a logical unit number to another logical unit number

    How can I move a vm folder in a logical unit number to another number of logical unit to a remote domain with powercli controller?

    the virtual machine is not registered in vc

    Hello, tdubb123-

    You can use the cmdlet Copy-DatastoreItem of PowerCLI, who has a "-Recurse" parameter to copy all the child elements.  For example:

    Copy-DatastoreItem -Item "vmstore:\myDatacenter0\myDatastore0\someVMFolder0\" -Destination "vmstore:\myDatacenter3\myDatastore2\" -Recurse

    "He uses the PSDrive" vmstore:------", which gives access to centres of data/connecting to VIServer default data warehouses.  If you go between vCenters, you can use the ' vmstores:------"PSDrive, which allows access to these objects in all VIServers to which you are connected in this particular PowerCLI session.

    Once you are satisfied with the integrity of the files after copying, you can delete the folder of elements from the original location using the standard Remove-Item cmdlet.  Enjoy.

  • Can I use vSphere replication for VMs on a logical unit number that is doing table replication to DR site

    Hi guys, could not find the answer on any Docs/KBs. With the implementation of normal SRM, I know you can use a mixture of the two, while a virtual machine is not protected by the table and vR.

    I need to make a site of NEW Dr. C while maintaining the current Bay of NETAPP on protection SRM of Site B.

    Will this be an approach to support? Step 0 is required?

    0 > get my guys to storage to stop replication on LUN - XYZ table (IF ANY) on

    1 > delete virtual machines on LUN XYZ of SRM existing Protection groups.

    2 > use vSphere replication to replicate the VMs who live on the LUN - XYZ

    3 > repeat the process until all LUNS have been treated like that.

    It should work without problem. I would recommend just a change in order to:

    1 (also remove the logic of the PG unit number), 0, 2, 3

    If you want to leave the computer on the same LUN virtual then step 0 is not necessary, but recommended (see below). If want to let the replication logic unit number and can just svmotion the VM, which would work as well.

    From a data protection perspective, as long as you understand the potential complications, I recommend you actually starting with step 2. Technically, you don't want to not have the same virtual machine reproduced several times, in this case since you are in transition, and if you understand that retrieve the VM using a method will break the other, and you can not the virtual machine protection with the two (VR & ABR) in SRM, you should be ok.

    Hope it makes sense. If this is not the case, let me know.

  • ESXi 5.5 - Direct access to the local logical unit number

    I have a 5.5 stand-alone ESXi server.

    It has 2 local SAS controllers

    Controller 1 (HP Smart Array P410): data bank single RAID 10 with two VM's local logic unit number

    Controller 2 (HP Smart Array P812): only RAID 6 LUNS nothing on it yet...

    My question is that I need one of the virtual machine to access that LUN. Is it possible to give direct access to the VM to the controller and/or the unit number logic rather than create a vmdk and massive data store?

    If it is I know Flash would not work on these data, but that really doesn't matter in this case.

    Thank you

  • Determine if the logic unit number is in use

    Is there a way to determine if a logic unit number is used on a case of ESX?

    Hello.

    Any ROW that are not attached to virtual machines is available by using the Add Hardware Wizard.  Try adding a hard drive to a virtual machine and choose "Raw Device Mappings" (if not grayed out) and anything that is listed is not in use.  If Raw Device Mappings is grayed out, you can use the free RVTools to find what VM has the RDM.

    Good luck!

  • passing VM of a LUN to another logic unit number

    I'm under vCenter 4.0 and ESX 4.0 U2 4

    I need to rearrange my VM to deal with the issue of the free space on the LUN level. We have a VM to run out of space problem because we did not know that we must not create a DTX200 of 18 G for a virtual machine with 1 G of memory in a 20 G logic unit number

    Our goal is to move all the VM in one of the 500 G LUN at least 20% of free space on the LUN to all the vswap and log files and instant and such.

    Here's what I'm consider that I do or have to do.

    (1) SAN admin will give me a new 500 G LUN (new_lun)

    (2) I will introduce this new_lun ESX 4 guests

    (3) then I'll have to remove these empty LUN (orig_lun) for all the ESX 4 return guests to the SAN admin. I have read several posts on the problems of removing LUNS to hosts, for example all-way-down when a logic unit number is deleted and causing all the hosts cannot see all other LUNS. any advise on this?

    4) return to the step 1 until all the data store is in one of the 500 G LUN at least 20% of space

    Now, I am using vCenter Converter to accomplish this tast. Issues related to the:

    (1) I have no intend to rename the virtual computer and to move the virtual machine to another host in the cluster, or to change its ' IP. My question is, can the vCenter converter allows to move just the virtual machine to a logic unit to another logic unit number number?

    (2) some of my vmdk need to have a different block size because they are 256 G with size 1 M block right now. This means that when they are moved, I need to create a new vmdk with a new block size (example 2) and then move the data across.

    (3) most of my virtual machines have at least 2 drives and each disc has its own logic unit number. for example, VM_A is a C (20G) drive, which is located on LUN_C and an E Drive (40G) which is on. LUN_E LUN_C and LUN_E are 2 completely separate LUN. Now, when I try to move these LUN_C and LUN_E to the new_lun (which is 500 g), vCenter converter will a vmdk to 60G or a vmdk of 20G and a 40G vmdk under the VM_A folder (if I can still call VM_A) when I use the heater vCenter?

    Thank you in advance.

    As the size of the block is set when you create the data store that you must move all virtual machines to a different data store, remove the data store to change the size of the block on and create a new one with the correct block size.

  • Numbering of different without pregnant and logical unit number

    Hello

    I have been for this search for awhile and can't find an answer. Looking for some clarity please. I have a small environment, 6 different hosts with 2 San. A hitachi san and a P200 Hp iscsi san. The Hitachi san already existed in the environment and use LUN 0-7 for his records. When I added in the Hp san I made sure that my LUN was numbered after the HDS, so I have 2 new LUNS 10 and 11 with this new data warehouses. Only thing is when I added it in the hp also automatically added in 2 lun 0 for each speaker hp.

    photo here

    luns.JPG

    Is that going to cause a problem? Can I remove it or hide so it won't cause any problems?

    I have looked in the SMU of HP, but cannot find anywhere that the pregnant lun can be chnaged. Because it is a logical unit for each speaker number, I wasn't sure if that would create problems with the disk lun. Or am I completely confused.

    Thank you

    LTA

    Hi evil,

    some storage arrays present inside to a connected host when the LUN ID 0 is not configured.

    I'm not familiar with HP, but I'd be willing to bet that when you reconfigure your HP table use LUN ID 0 and 1, the speaker will disappear.

    And André is absolutely right, you could use LUN ID 0 several times when you are connected to multiple targets.

    Everything you need to keep in mind is a LUN ID to use systematically for all ESX hosts, access to that LUN.

    And if you use multiple paths to the same table, you must use compatible LUN ID on each storage port (target).

    Hope this helps,

    Ralf

  • Display SCSI logic unit number name

    Hello

    I'm working on a script that will rename the name of unit number logic SCSI (the name of the LUN storage in vCenter under/device).  I've seen scripts that will do the name change, however I need to rename based on the ID of LUNS (Lun number).

    I have scripted one pace ID LUN and paths of our (NetApp) storage system to a csv file and that you want to rename in the CSV-based VMware.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Simon

    Try something like that.

    Note that the script does not handle duplicate LunIDs!

    # Store the LUN info in a hash table

    # Key is the Monday

    $lunTab = @ {}

    Import-Csv-path testLuns.csv - UseCulture | %{

    $lunTab.Add ($_.) Monday, $_. Path)

    }

    # Look all ESXi

    {foreach ($esx in Get-VMHost)

    $storSys is get-view-Id $esx. ExtensionData.ConfigManager.StorageSystem

    # Look all LUNS and change DisplayName if Monday is in the list

    ScsiLun get - LunType - VmHost disk $esx | %{

    $lunID = $_. RuntimeName.Split('L') [1]

    {if ($lunTab.ContainsKey ($lunID))}

    $newName = $lunTab [$lunID]

    $uuid = $_. ExtensionData.Uuid

    $storSys.UpdateScsiLunDisplayName ($uuid, $newName)

    }

    }

    }

  • move vmdk to a logical unit number to another logical unit number

    Hello

    I have my VC running as a virtual machine. I need to recreate the lun. So I need to move the virtual machine to a different unit number logic temp that I created.

    I already moved a few vm after their closure.

    I have two hurdles. We need to move the virtual machine which can not be stopped.

    I think migrate the Clariion LUN.

    the other obstacle is to move the Victoria Cross.

    Now, if I stop the VC, I can't use the migration data store option.

    Download all the files of vc and then scp to the lun temp? then vi the file vmx and update the current path/name of lun and change for the new lun to temp?

    is it risky or should I do the clariion lun migration.

    any thoughts?

    You copy the files to a data store, so at the end you will have 2 copies. You need to remove the virtual machine of the inventory (right click VM and remove inventory does NOT). Then navigate to the new data store, right-click on the .vmx file and add to the inventory. If everything seems ok, you can remove the folder from the original data store.

    I hope this helps.
