This error message, if any, that you get when connected through an Ethernet cable?

Please provide the following diagnostic information:

Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
In the black command prompt window, type the following lines and press ENTER after each line

    ipconfig/all > "% userprofile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt".

You will find a file named ipinfo.txt on your desktop.  Because I assume that you do not use the laptop to post here, copy the file on a USB flash drive, move it to the computer that you use to post here, then copy and paste the contents of ipinfo.txt into your next reply here.  After that, you can delete the file.

If you look on the bottom of your laptop, you will find the identification 'type of computer and model', i.e. 4 digits to 3 characters (see http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/locateProductNumber.page?).

Use the 'Use the fast path' link on this page to enter the type and model and you should get the support page for your unit special --> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/default.page

Click on the "Download drivers and software" link on the left of the page (not the ' Driver Matrix' at the bottom of the page).  You want (at least) the Ethernet driver.  If there is a choice, make sure you get one of your operating system (version of Windows).

  • How to connect to the internet via the wireless?

I just bought my first laptop Toshiba L10, and I'm unable to start, how do I connect to the internet using the wireless feature and no track? More frustrating is how can I connect to the internet in the first place, wireless.
    Help, please.

    Hi Phil,

To answer your questions in full, it would be quite a task but here is my simple guide: -.

    1. connect to the internet

1.1 choose an ISP (provider of Internet Sertvice) and get a CD with the software and the connection information.

1.2 load the CD and follow the onscreen instructions to set up your login information.

1.3 If you use dial-up connect your cable modem to your laptop and the other end to your telephone line.

1.4 If you are using broadband services to connect your CODEC to your USB port and the other cable to your microfilter attached to your telephone line.

1.5 DO NOT START YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION UNLESS YOU HAVE ANTIVIRUS RUNNING ON YOUR LAPTOP.

1.6 Click START-> CONNECT TO-> the connection created in 1.2 above

For the wireless connection, the procedure is similar braodly but you need a router or wireless modem connected to your telephone line and properly configured in Notepad you.

Follow step 1.5 with a lot of attention. If you connect to the internet without anit-virus software and firewall appropriate, it will be only a few seconds before your laptop computer will be infected with a form of virus. Please be careful.

  • Satellite Pro M70: How to connect to the internet using a second computer

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite Pro M70 with a RTL8139/810 x Family Fast Ethernet NIC use this, the laptop was connected to a desktop PC, whereby it is connected to the internet via a modem ADSL (USB) on the desktop. The laptop runs XP Pro; the desktop has XP Home.

My laptop has been a nasty virus. When removing it, he lost the ability to network. I tried "repair network", but he could not find an IP address. In the end, I had to manually set an IP address for the network to work again. You use IPCONFIG release and renew the IP addresses that failed - unable to connect to the DHCP server.

He could now see the Office network and Exchange files across be it, but it could no longer contact internet.

I decided to reinstall the OS on the laptop, but this does not solve the problem. I still have to manually set the IP on the laptop. I can connect two PCs, but does not see the internet from the laptop on the network.

If I connect the laptop directly to the internet via the modem, it works fine. I can even access the internet from the computer on the network when this is the laptop that has the internet connection.

The virus could have damaged the Ethernet controller, or she affected somehow?

    Is it possible to test?

    Have you advice?

    Hello

The virus was detected on the laptop you so maybe your PC has also been affected.
Did you check if the laptop and the PC using the same workgroup?

XP supports a help option. There, you might choose the Internet Connection Sharing Troubleshooter. "

  • How to connect to the internet?

I'm under VMware Fusion 2.0 with Windows XP in Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Until yesterday, that I could use VMware to connect to the internet, Windows, to play a certain game only running Windows, or surf the internet with Internet Explorer or Safari, and this already for several years.

This morning at the start of the game, I was told that the application could not reach the server and Windows offered a test to look for the reason. Windows first told me to check the cables and connections, to restart the modem or router and finally I should contact the ISP provider because there was no link with the internet.

This obviously isn't the problem because Mac, I have a normal internet connection and only after the beginning of VMware and Windows XP I am told to not be connected to the internet. Back on my internet iMac however normally works.

What can be the reason for this dysfunction and how can I eventually re-establish the internet connection under Windows with VMware?

Of course, it is not surfing on the internet, which is important, because I can do this with my iMac, but using the internet to connect to the server of the game I play.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

I don't know what is. Looks like you need to a router or switch that allows to connect several devices. My suggestion: buy a wireless router with LAN a few ports, you can connect modem and use it for wired connections and wireless

In the image below, you can se the router (R) (M) modem. You can connect your computer to the router and you can connect your printer using LAN cable or wireless. You can connect other computers, Tablet (s) or smartphone (s) to the same wireless router.

To help in this way, your printer can connect to Internet.

    Kind regards.

  • Unable to connect to the internet via a modem router - Satellite A200

Thanks to Xardas, I was able to successfully install Windows XP Pro, but not everything is working as it should. Of immediate concern is my inability to connect to the internet (DSL) through the installation of the existing modem router that I use. How can I check that the ethernet drivers work? … My Satellite A200 does not - connect the appropriate port light does not illuminate.

Oh yeh. I noticed that whenever I start (boot) a "Wizard" pane appears informing me that new hardware was found and that the drivers have not been installed but it doesn't tell me what the new material is! At the same time, there is a separate pane that announces that the drivers have not been installed correctly.

Of course, I can use the computer as it is, but before letting my wife loose on this subject, I would like to get rid of anything that can give her cause to panic.

    Where are you Xardas?

Check please the Device Manager and all the entries listed under network adapters. LAN card is listed there?

    Have you installed driver LAN?
    What A200 you exactly (A200-xxx)?

    Hi dougmack,

    1. What happens when you try to connect using Internet explorer?
    2. What is the type of internet connection you use?
    3. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    4. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

Check if the problem persists in mode safe mode with networking mode.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Method 2

If the problem does not persist in mode safe mode with networking mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start , and then click run.
    2. Type msconfig , and then click OK.
The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services , and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

  • I'm trying to connect to the internet and I am unable to do so. My screen says Internet Explore cannot display this Web page. I missed something in the settings? He sees my wireless and says acquiring network address... but not to go further.

I tried to diagnose, disconnect and reconnect

You have left out information such as how you connect to the Internet (cable/DSL? ISP?), the brand of your router, and whether other computers can connect to your router wirelessly with success. Also, we don't know whether there is an initial Setup or if you had this before work and now it just doesn't.

I'm going to assume that this is the first installation then give you instructions on setting up a safe wireless router. Maybe that will make things work for you. If you need more information, be sure to include all missing information in your next post.

Setting up a router is simple enough. Normally, you run the CD that came with the router and follow the instructions. But you can set up the router without the CD. Note that if you have Internet cable for the connection you have just set up the router to DHCP (or there may even be a choice of cable to choose). If you have DSL Internet, you select TRP usually and enter the username and password you selected when you initially set the DSL connection. So:

    1. turn off the power to your modem.
    2. attach a class (usually supplied with the router) ethernet cable cat5e Internet/WAN port of the router to the ethernet port on the modem.
    3. connect the ethernet cable cat5e from the network card in your computer to one of the ports on the router. If you do not have an ethernet cable (because you were using USB), you will need to go to the store and buy a.
    4. turn on the modem. After that all the lights are on, turn on the router.

    To configure the router:

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
