How to hide partitions of disk in Explorer Windows 8?

In Windows 7, it was possible through a registry hack to hide specific drives (partitions), but accessible through the drive letter. Solutions on Windows 8 seem to focus on the removal of the drive letter in the management of the computer (storage) which is not satisfactory, because you have to reverse the process in order to use the drive.

Hide a Partition or hard disk: Group Policy (windows 8 & 8.1 Pro, Enterprise, x 86 & x 64)
To start Group Policy by pressing Windows-R, type gpedit.msc and pressing on enter. Navigate to the following in the Local Group Policy Editor model: User Configuration > administrative templates > Windows components > FileExplorer
Hide these drives specified in work center to find the template, and then double-click it.
Move from not configured to "Enabled" and select one of the following combinations on the menu drop-down.
Restart the computer, or log on to see the changes you have made. The changes can be reversed by disabling the setting in the Group Policy Editor. This will only remove the icon of the disk of the file Explorer. You can still access the disks for example.
When you want to open just open run and type your player for ex:-win + R-> D: and press ENTER.

  • How to resize partitions of disk on Satellite A300-14V?

    Hello

A drive in my Toshiba Satellite A300 14V 320 is divided two equal C: and E: volumes. The c: volume contains Vista OS, programs and lots of user data. The E: volume is the folder HDDRecovery contains it is about 4 GB, but when I check the properties of the volume E: I see 30 GB of used space. Could someone explain what is the problem?
And there's a question related - why I am able to reduce volume E: only for about 12 GB and not able at all to expand the C: volume by Windows tools? Do I have to use commercial software to perform the task or it is easier and cheaper to reinstall the system with a disk-resuscitator?

    Thanks and regards,
    Alexander

All new Toshiba laptops have this partition structure. On the second partition you have folder named HDDRecovery that contains the recovery image. This image will be used if you want to install HARD drive recovery facility - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

On the second partition, you can also save all your important data. This second partition is not reserved for the recovery image only. Very important, it is follow:
    # When you want to install the OS by using restore DVD disc the whole HARD disk will be formatted and all data will be gone.
    # When you use second partition of disk HARD recovery option will not be changed. This means that all data stored on the second partition will be there even if you have installed the operating system again.

It is therefore recommended that you save all important data, music, movies, photos, or different documents on the second partition. If you want to use this HARD drive recovery option in the future please do not change the partition structure. When something is changed, it can happen that you will not be able to start the installation of HARD drive recovery.

If you care about second partition and if you created recovery DVD discs, you can with the partitions all you want.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Dear Sir, I have installed two hard drives in my computer, and two of them have windows 7 installed in them. A disc is belong to my children and the other is for me. For the moment, I turned off my drive from the Bios. Now I want to turn off my drive and my hard drive partitions, hidden or locked.

Bit of overkill, isn't? I assume that you have TWO licenses for Windows 7...

As I said - if their user accounts are Standard users and your account is also Standard user with a password then they can NOT ACCESS to your personal records. Period.

  • Accidentally formatted partition 0 disk 4 BOOTCAMP Windows 8.1

Yesterday I bought Windows 8.1 and began installing Bootcamp. I got through all the steps and got to the page collection of information on the windows OS. I filled everything, product key and all. Then I got to the page of partitions, I chose 0 4 Partition drive. I then clicked format (not realizing really what it was). Once I couldn't install windows. He told me that the reader must be in NTFS format. I did not remove the main MAC OS. I looked at many solutions, but they worked not or that they were too old for my computer. I gave an amount of space to 243.21 to Windows. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

I HAVE A TOTALLY VIRGIN (NOTHING on the HDD) computer PORTABLE TOSHIBA, I HAVE MY RESTORE DISKS for VISTA BUT CANT SEEM to GET THE OS installed on MY LAPTOP... Please help

As a general rule, the installation - insert the installation disc, restart the computer and boot from the installation disc.

BIOS - how to enter the BIOS and change Boot Order To Boot from CD/DVD

The computer might need to be set to boot from the DVD drive.

Each computer is different, when you turn on the computer, it should tell you what button to push to get into the BIOS. It is usually one of the following options and you have to push it in the first 5 seconds:

    F1 F2 F10 F12 ESC LED

Once in the BIOS find the menu with the boot sequence and change it if it starts from the CD/DVD drive first. Each computer is a little different for this process as well, so I can't give exact directions.

If you can start still not install it:

Looks like you got the installation discs for the manufacturer of OEM computer, if so those are modified OEM Windows 7 install disks (they aren't the installation discs for Microsoft) and the best answer may come by contacting the manufacturer of OEM computers, because the changes they did make the different installation process then a normal installation disc.

  • Creation of partition using disk management in Windows 7

    Hi all

I am setting up a new laptop and I have a question on the partitions.  Creating partition in Windows 7 disk management has the same effect as the creation of a partition before installing the operating system?

For example, let's say we reduce C drive Windows 7 preinstalled C and D through the Windows 7 disk management tool and use the D drive for drive C for Windows and data.

If Windows is corrupted at some point in the future, the scores also get corrupted?  If this is the case we gain nothing - so we could have a data folder in the C drive instead of split-C and D.

Someone told me that the above method is different from creating a partition before installing the operating system.  If the partition is created beforehand, the partition is safe even if the OS is corrupt, so you don't lose your data.

    Is the above correct?

    Thank you!

Creating partition in Windows 7 disk management has the same effect as the creation of a partition before installing the operating system?

-> Yes, but you will find that the native disk management refuses to shrink an existing partition by more than 50% (if there are only!).

If Windows is corrupted at some point in the future, the scores also get corrupted?

->, Depends on where the damage occurs, the file system or partition table.

If this is the case we gain nothing - so we could have a data folder in the C drive instead of split-C and D.

-> There are two big advantages of having your data on a separate drive:

-L' backup image you create system partition is much smaller and does not grow.

-When you restore an image, your data is not overwritten.

Someone told me that the above method is different from creating a partition before installing the operating system.  If the partition is created beforehand, the partition is safe even if the OS is corrupt, so you don't lose your data.

-> There is no difference. A partition is a partition, regardless of the way in which you create it.
