  About 22 days ago I made the mistake of buying a refurbished from Dell PE r200. The server does not include a BONE - which was okay with me - and it arrived timely. That has turned into a debacle/fiasco/nightmare and I don't always have a DVD player and I will buy servers for me and my clients to HP in the future.

  Meanwhile the SATA DVD drive happen at Dell, I tried two drives DVD USB external different to install the OS and, although both drives start on DVD ok Dell systems Mgmt, when comes the time to insert the support of Windows 2008, I get an error "invalid Microsoft Windows Server 2008 media was not found. Insert the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 installation media into the DVD - ROM device'.

  I don't understand why the media are not be seen, but this turns into a trend and I'm looking for another way to install.

  I saw the mention of a way to install using a DRAC card (which I have) and I wonder if this is applicable in my case. If so, can someone let me know the steps or direct me to them.

  The server has the latest version of the BIOS.

  I just edit the syncserver.ini file, and then point the host of the internal ip address.

  OK, for the windows 2008, try to install the DNS service (Add Server Manager roles) in there... (you cannot point the others it as DNS if it does not act as DNS)

  also in it the IP configuration, set as follows:

  IP 10.1.1.31

  Subnet 255.255.255.0

  Gateway 10.1.1.1

  Primary DNS 10.1.1.31

  203.x.x.35 secondary DNS (you can also add the 203.x.x.36)

  Do the same for your guests to WIndows 7.

  Make sure all are workers and they can ping each other...

  If everything is OK, you should have internet on them...

The drive appears fine in computer management. However, when I go to create a new virtual machine and select "Create a new virtual disk" and I give the size of the new hard drive for example 1300GB, I get the error saying that the disk can be up to 950 GB. In addition, if I had to give a smaller size she tells me that he cannot give me this space because the maximum space available is 74 GB (i.e. it refers to my primary HD).   With WS 7.1 RC, you can create 2 TB VMDK - explain what you do exactly.

  You must of course give the path to the large disks when you create the vmdk

  Is that what someone has successfully installed Server 2008, especially the RC1 or RTM on a PE 1950 III?  I poked at it since November, first with RC1 and now with the RTM, with no luck.

  The machine in question uses the built-in default SAS 6/iR with two 750 GB Hitachi SATA drives.  I have confirmed that all firmware is the latest provided by Dell.

  In RAID 1 configuration, the installation program crashes "Copying files" and, possibly, BSOD.  Without using the RAID, the installer gets in what concerns the "facility characteristics", crashes, and finally closes with an error dialog stating that the registry cannot be changed.

  It's quite frustrating because both Dell and Microsoft list the 1950s with the SAS 6/iR as fully tested and natively supported.
