How to make windows Picture Manager program by default to open jpeg files and how do I email photos smaller, so they don't take so much space?

When I try to open a jpeg file, I get an error message... Acrobat Reader cannot open file... so I have to right click on each photo and open with Windows Picture Manager.  I want to be able to open a JPEG with a single click.  Also, I want to be able to send smaller photos so that they are sent faster and do not require a lot of time the receiving computer to get... Thank you.

I'm guessing that the regfix didn't work?

Outlook or Outlook Express? In any case... when
attaching directly to an e-mail message, do you
don't see no dialog resize.

The following free PowerToy for Windows XP
can resize batches of photos very quickly:

Click on the following link and the left click of the
Tab "PowerToys"...

Windows XP downloads
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Windows-XP

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Download and install: ImageResizer.exe
(Filename: ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe)
(does not work on Vista)

Then, you can open any folder containing
images and you will have an option to resize.
Just right click the selected image files and
Choose resize images in the menu. You
can select a picture or an entire group.

The program will place the resized in copies
the folder with your originals.
(Tip: * never * overwrite your originals)

To ensure that images in both portrait and
landscape orientation are resized to the
same dimensions... go to... Advanced...
and enter the largest number in these two areas.
IOW... for 600 x 800... Enter 800 in these two areas.

    In very simple terms please

Some games offer the opportunity to install some files only when you are setting them up, others not.  There is nothing you can do to force a game to use more or less hard disk space it wants to use.

Clean 'files' is a losing proposition.  Unless you're the type who has dozens of movie files to several gigabytes of each hard drive there is no way to clean up "the files" in quantities reasonable for free hard drive space.

It seems that if your hard disk becomes full or is full and should be replaced by a larger.  It is the only real solution to the problem, if so.  Get a bigger hard drive, transfer your current installation of Windows itself and be happy.

Cannot open JPEG files. Computer to the word when attempted and gives the unreadable code strings. Corrective action?

The file association seems to be incorrect.  To rememdy this...

Right-click on any jpeg and select 'Open with' in the menu.

From there, you should have several options, select Windows Picture Veiwer or anything that makes sense on your pc.

If it opens correctly, close it, and then right-click again.

Rather than choose the same program, at the bottom you should see "Choose program" click on it and select the application that worked, then check the box that says "always use the program selected to reopen this file type."

OK out of there and you should be good to go.

    Samhrutha,

    I solved the problem.

I found that when creating a new user, no longer had the open with dialog box.

I started the process of resolution of a corrupted user profile (which seems little more than creating a new and copy and paste a few old values), when I decided to try one last thing.

I logged on my account corrupted again and when the 'Open with' dialog that I open the file with Notepad.  I tried to "save under" to locate the file and found that it was located in C:\Users.  Something in recent weeks seems to have put a file without an extension, called "Mathew" (my log in name) in this folder, and it began when I started windows.

I have since deleted the file and am no longer get the "Open with" dialog

    Thanks for your support!

When you copy a JPEG from the internet in Microsoft Picture Manager only an empty rectangle is displayed. When I move the cursor over this white rectangle, I see that the file type is displayed as a png image and not a jpeg. Although I have only a basic knowledge of computer, I checked in the menu tools that the png file type is checked and as far as I understand it should then open in Picture manager. • Definition of Photoshop CC 2014 as my "default program" to open JPEG files in Windows 7

I just installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my Windows 7 computer. I put Photoshop as my "default program" to open JPEG files. Now when I double-click a JPEG, Photoshop CC will launch instead of 2014 CC Photoshop. I noticed that the executable files for all versions of Photoshop are "Photoshop.exe" (no wonder that windows merges). If I changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 to something like "Photoshop2014.exe" then Windows will allow me to choose the program as my "default program" to open a JPEG file, however it is therefore impossible for me to open the files in Lightroom. Lightroom to Photoshop CC will default.

I changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 to "Photoshop.exe" and renamed all the executable files for my older versions of Photoshop. It still does not work.

This is a Registry fix for Win7 machines for the file association problem.

    This from TinusHDCA user:

I installed Photoshop CS6, then found CS5 was always there. I thought, Hey, I don't have CS5, so I uninstalled CS5. then I discovered that Photoshop was no longer available in "Open with", when right clicking on an image...

I went into the registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed (by default) of "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit) \Photoshop.exe" '%1' to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) \Photoshop.exe" '%1' (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see "Adobe Photoshop CS6" in my list 'Open with' when right-clicking on an image...
