How would be dual booting my computer to run both vista and XP

Hello, I currently have windows vista sp2 Home premium (64-bit)

and I was wondering if there is a way to install xp on a partition on my hard drive

I made a small (10 GB) partition on my hard drive and be it player assigned B:\

and I wanted to install xp on it

and I'm not sure how to go on this issue and thought I would ask here because I don't want to dirty my computer.

Do your research via Google and make a larger partition.

Come on first, site of the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if your model computer has XP drivers available for it...

If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods above
It is preferable to ensure that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are located)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

    Dear klh76

You need a USB FLASH DRIVE, you can transfer the files from the Recovery Console Windows Vista from any other pc or laptop running Windows Vista, go to the backup and restore on the other computer and click on create a drive recovery system on the file menu. Once done, insert the usb key into the laptop, you want to fix, start by using selected peripheral USB device as MBR, follow these steps on screen, you can repair a corrupt Windows Vista it or restore to a previous restore point.

  • Satellite Pro A200: How to create Dual boot; Vista & XP using the recovery CD

I just bought a laptop Satellite Pro A200, which was supplied with the product for Vista and XP Recovery discs.
The license specifically Vista also XP licenses.
Can I set up a dual boot so that I can boot to Vista or XP? If so, how?

I would also like a third boot, Red Hat Linux 9.
    Any comments?

Hmmm. Usually it s possible to use two or more operating systems on the computer, but as far as I know the Toshiba Vista recovery CD formats whole disk when installing Vista and this will lead to the loss of the OS installed.
I m not 100% sure on the recovery of the newest XP CD called RECON doesn t CD include an expert mode which allows to choose between the different partitions.

So I guess that each use the recovery CD will format the HARD drive and erase the installed data. But of course, you can try to install the two BONES and to check if the restore XP CD allows to choose the second part of the installation of the OS.

If it does not, it seems that you will need to an original XP from Microsoft CD or the original CD of Vista to use the two BONES.

    Best regards

  • How can I dual boot version Windows 8 and windows 7 Professional

How to create a partition dual boot?

I now have windows 7 pro now. I want to have a dual boot for win 7 & win 8.

I lose all my apps of win 7, & will be working on win 8 automatically or do havve to re - install in win 8?

    Please see:

    http://www.PCWorld.com/article/2012070/how-to-dual-boot-Windows-8-and-Windows-7.html

Othe tutorials are available on the Internet. Do a Bing, Google or similar search
dual boot Windows 7 Windows 8.

The installation of Windows 8 on a drive separate partition/logic will not affect any aspect of your Windows 7 Professional system. You will need to install all the applications for use with Windows 8 on this system with the system of Windows 8 running. Some people, it is useful to create yet another disk partition separated/logic for their documents, pictures, videos and files of the user. Thay can be shared between the two systems, open and modified either by, according to the needs.

    Good luck.

  • Dual-boot a pre-installed copy of Vista.

I'll be getting an additional SATA drive available in a few months. I plan to install it in a gateway 4200DX which comes preinstalled with Vista 64-bit home premium.  I have a dual boot with XP and Vista. The player in question is only 80 GB, so I would use for operating systems so that in case of accident, that one is most likely to go. If possible. If this isn't the case, I would just install XP on it.

The problem is that my system did not come with an installation for Vista CD, only a "recovery partition". Worse still, at the time where I learned to make a dual boot, I learned that I had to install the oldest operating system first. Granted, XP was brand new at the time and I was installing double boots from 98/2000 or 98/XP for friends & family, so I am not sure if it still applies to Vista.

How could I go do a system dual-boot? I have to forget about using the new 80 GB for the OS drive and just find a way to shrink the partition from my current drive? Can I still do it without a Vista CD? I have a XP CD, although I don't think that there all service packs. I've got those engraved on 2 separate CD. I just mention that the CD is one of the oldest because I recently tried to use it to install the console recovery on someone computer facility and I had problems. I don't think it should affect what anyone because the installation of these service packs is part of what I consider to be the installation process. I just use the CD instead of letting the autocratic updates to do to save time and bandwidth.

Usually, the recovery partition are accessible in some way to burn the recovery disks, how is specific to your PC manufacturer.

Before installing Windows XP, make sure that this gateway provides Windows XP drivers for your system, if they do not, let winxp well alone

  • Dual boot Win 7 64 - bit of complications and Win10

At the present time, I have a dual boot system running Windows 7 and the preview to win 10 (on a separate SSD). Everything works OK.

I want to install a new motherboard and load a 64 bit version of Windows 7 (new battery).  And... I want to use the SSD for the final version to win 10.

If I understand correctly, I will have to remove my HD Win7 and win 10 SSD to install the 64-bit versions. I have a DVD 64 bit Windows 7, but I guess I'll have to get a Win 10 ISO.

I would like to reinstall a large part of my Win 7 backup files and programs for the 'new' 64-bit Windows 7. Then I carefully would focus on files and programs to victory 10 64-bit in the car.

What is freaking me out, is the vision of key programs does not work with the 64-bit versions. If all goes well, I read that a large number of 32-bit programs running on a 64-bit system.

With a bit of luck, I have to burn (in TB) storage so I can back up carefully, but that is not good if the stuff saved refusing to work with a different system.

I'd love a lot of comments on my strategy. I'm too much of a big deal, or it's going to be a nightmare?

    Thank you!

    Kurupa salvation,

I'll be happy to help you with the problem you have with the computer. I understand the frustration when things do not work as it should.

If the program is specifically designed for the 64 bit version of Windows, it will not work on the 32-bit version of Windows. (However, most programs designed for 32-bit version of Windows operate on 64-bit Windows version).

Device drivers designed for the 64 bit version of Windows do not work on computers running a 32-bit version of Windows.

Please follow the link below to learn more about Windows 32-bit and 64-bit.

    Hi wendi_wolf,

The easiest way to accomplish this is to drag and drop files the location from the source to the destination location.

Plug your MP3 player \SanDisk, copy the destination location (document music\) files and the Paste into the reader.

Some MP3 player comes with the software; You can use the software to copy songs from a computer to an MP3 player. You can consult the documentation provided with it.

  • Partition a new Windows 7 computer to run Windows 98 and more old incompatible software?

Windows 98 works with new computers if I partition my Windows 7 Sony Vaio & set it to dual boot of Windows 98 or Windows 7. I have

thousands of dollars invested in educational software & much of it does not work on anything other than Windows 95 or 98. My only son Lexia reading program

is greater than $300.00 to replace, & it's only 1 title among the dozens who no longer run. I bought a new laptop for my son who has Down Syndrome &

half of its software doesn't work anymoe. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

In order to dual boot both systems must know and be able to read the same boot loader.  WIn 98 is unable to understand.

You will be able to (if your hardware supports it) to run as a virtual machine from XP to win 7 and that may be able to run win 98 software.
