  If the ethernet cable was working until I brought home from the computer repair shop once they replaced my keyboard.  I brought home, it has turned on and tried to plug in my ethernet cable, but I couldn't see is wireless, so I did some research and I tried to reset my computer but that didn't work.  Driver download gives me an error "the Realtek network controller is not found.   Unfortunately, you can not replace the component without replacing the motherboard together.

  What I recommend is that buy you an external usb to rj - 45 10/100/100 (gigabit) ethernet card and that should take care of the problem for you.

  Can't find a controller driver ethernet or network that will install properly. I downgraded from windows 8.1 thinking I could just pull the drivers on the HP site but no luck.

  If they do, most likely the drive will start.

  Worst case, it's that you reinstall the operating system.

  I finally managed to fix the problem. The link above was helpful, but I had already taken care of everything mentioned. The link isn't really remedy the situation where you have a laptop that is connected wirelessly to the network, as is my case. My problem is that the desktop PC could not access files/folders on my laptop, but it worked very well the opposite effect (i.e. the laptop could access files/folders on the desktop. After 'playing well' on the laptop, that's what I did to solve my problem:

  In Center of network & share on the laptop, there is a list with my network connection wireless, with a link "view state".

  Click on this link and you get a dialog box with a button 'properties '. By clicking on this, you get one of several elements that may or may not be selected. In my case, the "file and printer sharing for Microsoft networks" was NOT selected. I chose this and hey presto, it worked.

  Hope that this is useful for someone else with the same problem.

  Thank you for posting material ID for the network controller, so I know what model wireless card it is and then I'll post the link for the driver, you need to.

  To find the hardware ID, go to the Device Manager and click on the network controller who need the driver.

  Then click on the Details tab in the upper part of the window network controller.

  Now you will see a drop-down list of property and it will be set to the Description of the unit.

  On this list and select the 2nd (Hardware ID).

  After the first string of characters you see in the window.
