HP 8740w freeze before the BIOS post

In 30% of cases of PowerOn on this laptop, I had a problem with loading not (to hang up, gel). When I press the PowerOn button on laptop I get NumLock LED, all lights, except flashing CapsLock and black screen (without ANY BIOS information). They will Flash in this style:

1. 4 flashes between blink (deuxieme)

2. break (a few seconds)

3. repeat 1 and 2 4 times more (5 times at all)

That all. After that they stop flashing and the computer does not meet the keys, except PowerOff. (Cooler while working at full power).

This problem is NOT related to the operating system (she appears BEFORE BIOS post), so please don't suggest to reinstall the drivers. Problem exists since the first day of the purchase of this laptop.

Can you advise something to solve this problem?

  • Satellite A660 - 11 M: regular crashes, sometimes even before the BIOS...

    Hello

    A month ago I bought a Satellite A660 - 11 M.
I set up a dual-boot windows 7 / ubuntu 10.04 and I have lived several times a complete freeze of the system under the two BONES. In addition, after a freeze of the laptop is really difficult to restart: it freezes usually several times in a row, and most of the time there is no display at all (I don't even see lines of BIOS, or the toshiba logo).

I read several threads with the same diagnosis, and it seems to be likely to be from the power adapter.
Is there a way to be sure that it comes from him, and if so what can I do about it? If I send my computer in warranty, what are the chances that this problem is solved?

    Thank you for your response.
    Best,

    pico770

On this path, it is not easy to say what the problem is here and what can be the reason of such behaviour of the laptop. What you need is verification by computer diagnosis and appropriate. This can only be done by the service.
    >... What are the chances that this problem is solved?
Before your laptop will be sent in return it must be tested and if everything is OK you will get it again.
Some default material, the part will be exchanged, portable will be tested again so that this problem needs to be solved.

  • Satellite P300-h-13: stops, restarts itself and then freezes in the BIOS

    Hello

    I have a laptop TOSHIBA SATELITE P300-h-13.
When I turn it on, it starts before blocking immediately down and then it restarts itself (twice).

Then it freezes in THOSHIBA default start screen.
I can't access BIOS (says it charges but nothing happens).

If I press the ESC key, I got a screen saying that the processor is detected and it gives me the ability to L2 cache, it says the RAM passed and then it indicates that the Bios system & video are overshadowed.

I tried without the battery, but it doesn't change anything.

Please help me solve this problem on.
    Thank you!

    Hello

I don't know why this is happening and it's really strange question that should not happen on the new laptop.
In such situations, you can simply try standard measures and see if it will work properly again.

By the way: how old is your laptop? Have you noticed this behavior from the first day?

In any case, try to enter in the BIOS somehow and set it to default settings. try to enter Advanced boot options using F8 at the start and check if the installation of operating system work (during the first backup of data, if possible).

If nothing helps I would recommend not to do anything, but contact the nearest authorized service provider. Let them check your laptop computer and, if necessary, repair. Warranty will cover all costs.

  • Computer laptop HP G72 freezes on the bios screen after installing a replacement battery.

After you have installed a spare battery, my G72-259WM freezes on logo screen or bios of HP. If I tap to shut down the pc, unplug the unit and remove the battery. Then, re-insert battery the pc boots fine. When I stop still, I have to go through the same process. I tested the memory strips to be good and have replaced the HARD drive (the original had questions) to a WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB. Everything works fine once the pc is started. Is it due to being of a batterty of spare parts? or is there anything else that might be causing it?

Its quite possible that battery is causing this issue since it has never occurred before the battery. Use this link to run a self test on the battery: test of a hard disk by using the Built in Self Test

Let me know what results you get from the test.

    Thank you

  • Explanations requested before the BIOS update

I read in the FAQ of this web site to update the BIOS:
"Before upgrading the BIOS, please respect the following rules:
    -Portable is in stand-alone mode.
-Laptop is plugged into the mains.
-Laptop computer must be in boot mode and not recovery mode.
    -Remove all PC cards. »

Can someone explain to me the meaning of phrases "laptop is in autonomous mode" and "the laptop is plugged in" because I do not understand?

I don't speak English very well so use very simple words, please.

    Hello

    It's very simple.

Regarding-> "laptop is in stand-alone mode.
Some series of laptop computer can be connected to the docking station.
If you want to update the BIOS on this laptop please make sure that the laptop is not connected to the docking station in the BIOS update process!

Regards-> phone is plugged into the mains
The laptop can run either with the power of the battery or can be plugged into the mains (AC adapter).
During the BIOS update process the notebook must be connected to the power adapter and do NOT use the battery!

Hope I could clear some misunderstandings.

By the way; The update of the BIOS is risky. Please make sure you use the good BIOS!

    Hi old_geekster,

Strange is that both blue jumpers are placed differently in default mode on my Board compared to the specification. My jumpers are placed at 1-3 and 2-4 and not 1-2 and 3-4 in default mode!  It's strange.  Have the located at the position indicated in the specifications to see what is happening.  I don't think it will hurt anything and it could well be the problem solver.

There is an another slider pin with 7 pins on the main Board saying BIOS_RECOVERY. There is no rider placed on these pins. How can it be used?  I am sorry to say that I don't know how to use it.  If there is no rider, it probably isn't a function for your motherboard.  HP uses the same mobos for different models.

Any other ideas?  See my above response to your first question.

  • Re: Satellite A100-803 PSAANE won't start no-glued on the Bios POST

    Hello

I have the following problem with a laptop computer to a customer.
After having turned it on, it has the logo Toshiba rest on and everything is hanging there.

After pressing ESC, there is a message: "NO TPN or TPN has problem.
So, I think that the Bios broke down. How, I don't know.

Trying to enter in the setup by pressing F2 system displays "enter the configuration" but nothing happens. He stayus on this screen.
Is there a solution I can try to recover the Bios damaged from a USB or a USB floppy drive.

I checked the Toshiba support site, there is a Bios Update, but it is a program that should be started in Windows so I can't use it.
Anyone have an idea how I can recover the corrupted Bios.
I have already removed the battery and the power and hold the powerbutton to for +-30 sec, but that does not solve the problem.

    Thanks for help out me.

    Best regards

    Dealer.

    Hello

You are right. There are, it's no BIOS which can be not started BOF on floppy or USB key.
You must update the BISO running windows OS.
But according to your message, it is not possible.

If you have no alternative but to contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country.
Guys should be able to help you. I presume that the technicians have access to the traditional BIOS version that can be updated using a disk.

  • Satellite M40 does not load before the BIOS screen

When I turn on my Satellite M40 unfortunately it does not happened on 7/8ths blue bar going across the screen.

That left me completely baffled as what to do.

Apparently, it could be repaired by removing the cables on my CMOS battery?

If someone knows how I would go all this? or have any other ideas?

    Thank you xx

    Hi Dec,

Blue scroll bars indicate that the Wondiows operating system is loaded from the hard drive. If this process hangs while loading, then it is likely that the hard drive itself is defetive or else the files that are being loaded are corrupt and cannot be loaded.

Interfere with the CMOS chip will not fix this problem because the BIOS has already been loaded at this point.

If you have access to a bootable CD/DVD (such as Norton Disk Doctor) then I siggest you boot from it and running a scan of your hard drive. Alternatively you can try reinstalling your operating system of the Toshiba recovery CD but it won't replace your own data on your hard drive.

  • Satellite L450D PSLY5E freeze during the BIOS update - now does not turn on

    Hi guys,.

I have a Satellite L450D. I recently tried (unfortunately) update the BIOS after a clean installation, because the FN key no longer working to bring up the toolbar.

Winphlash program froze near the end and the system remained frozen for a good half-hour. The only way out was to remove the battery (as I know in any case).

Now, the system will light with battery in or out and plugged in. I guess I've damaged the hard drive or the card mother or something.

Is it possible to fix? Or is it?

Thank you very much for your help.

BTW - I know now not to update the BIOS unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary and well advised.

    Joey

    > I guess I've damaged the hard drive or the card mother or something.

The disk HARD isn t damage but the Rom module where the BIOS is stored was not flashed properly.
I guess that this happened because the flash procedure was interrupted.

I'm not sure if this can be fixed perhaps the service guy could flash the ROM module with special disc of crisis of the BIOS.

    I keep fingers crossed

  • T410 slow system in the bios post and towers works again on restart

I met this system when it came to upgrade Windows XP to win7 for my business.

We want to have the same version of the bios on all systems, and this one had an outdated bios, so I did an upgrade to 1.35.

To complete the upgrade, you must press ENTER to reboot the system. It took about 30 sek for the system to reboot after I pressed Enter. It was the first clue that the system acted weird. After the bios update, I noticed that when a reboot is initiated by the operating system, the laptop shuts down for 10 sek and then on again. Then fire Power On password. Normally, there are no POP when you restart.

I tried upgrading the bios version 1.36 but no change.

This problem has been fixed. BIOS has been reset by removing the mb battery and reconfigured.

you don't need to remove the hard disk to retrieve the data, you can create a USB windows live for a start, then, and backup important data all

    Hello

I think that in this case you must go to an authorized service provider. If the laptop freeze during the BIOS update module ROM needs to be reflashed.

On the Toshiba site, you can search nearest ASP and download all the drivers. Check this box:

    Welcome them

  • Portege M800 - SSD, lag of 30 seconds before the start after POST

I have recently upgraded to an Intel Postville's G2 X 25 - M 80 GB SSD and experience a second rule 30 between the BIOS POST (black screen) and actual boot from the disc. Support of the Intel says that it is probably a BIOS problem and that I should install the latest firmware, which I already did (4.80).

    System: Windows 7, 127-Portege M800-127 PPM81E M800.

    Hello

I guess that this shift will be caused due to the BIOS test. After you turn on your laptop it checks internal devices like HDD/SSD, CD/DVD disk, CPU, RAM, etc. So some of the material was originally this delay, I think.

If the latest BIOS can't solve your problem, it would be interesting to know what is happening with a SSD of replacement. Can you check that out, please?
