  After digging through the forums, I tried to copy the usbstor.inf and .pnf to the Windows\inf directory and reinstalled the driver through the Device Manager, and it loaded right up.

  I don't know, but I suspect that the impact of this change, there are other devices that can complain. For now, the process of transfer between W7 and VMWARE/linux seems flawless.

None of the USB drives I had when buying this router on the list of "approved" ridiculously short which is of course not noticed when buying the router, but the discs are recognized, I can FTP to one of them (Filezilla), format, create to-DOS, etc. via the web interface... the only thing that does not seem to work is to map the created actions. The error obtained net use is 'System error 1231' giving in 'Map network drive', 'Windows cannot access\\192.168.1.1' with 0x800704cf error code. I get what I pass credentials or not. Please advise, external storage has been the main reason that I bought this router and I need to know if I should return it. Thank you

  I know that sounds totally absurd given that FTP and what - not worked, but I swapped the USB cable I was using between readers and the router, and presto, it worked. I been in this business a lot of time and work with Cisco equipment all the time, so I know how ridiculous, this sounds like a solution, and perhaps in the context of permutation that cable thing happened I can't remember since I was a package 6 deep at the time... but it works now... now, if I can get just the AVI 1080 p files to stream to Xbox 360 without the video do rough I will be gold... but that's another thread.   Plug one of your SATA power to branch (from your current diet) on the cable resulting, plug your new power supply ATX ATX plug adapter and you're good to go. When your old power supply switch on the adapter will turn on your new, it's great.

  You could buy a dedicated power supply if you can find one, but I recommend not, they are expensive, make a lot of noise and heat.

  This probably means you have a bad USB connection somewhere.  I got this a lot when I used markets good USB hubs.  It also happened a lot on a couple of the USB plugs on my old laptop 4 year, where I had plugged in and out things in them so that the connectors are not as strong as they were when new.  My main office more connected devices above that outputs 4 USB, that I had on the back, so I finally bought a card extension to add 4 more exits USB.  If this is your case, perhaps you could do the same.  Expansion cards are not very expensive, usually in the range of $ 15 to $ 25, and they are fairly simple to install.

  3. Select auto play

  When you have a USB drive connected and turned on, there will be a USB plug with a green show check ICON on your taskbar clock and stuff.

  Click on it and select the device you want to eject.

  As a warning... Win 8 has something that I was not able to figure out yet.

  Instead of the usual "Safe To Remove Hardware" message, I get "Impossible for-disconnector is in use" even if it is not.

  I was just clicking OK essentially and unplug then... I've yet to lose any info.

  You may or may not have this problem, but I thought I should give a heads up.
