HP Compaq nx8220: use SSD?

Hello world!

I have a laptop HP Compaq nx8220 with XP Home edition OS.

I would like to install Windows 7 operating system.

(1) is it possible to install Windows 7 OS in this machine?

If we can for sure a Solid State Disk would be faster.

(2) is it possible to replace the HD with a SSD hard drive?

There are sites that sell a special "caddy" to insert a second HD (SSD too) replace the Multibay II optical drive

http://www.tiny-buys.com/HDD-hard-drive-caddy/HP-Compaq-Nx8220.html

Are there opportunities to make? Any suggestion to give new life to this laptop is welcome, because Windows XP will soon be unsupported

Thank you for your attention

It is a single core 2 ghz Pentium M (Centrino) processor that can take up to 2 GB of RAM, but has the ATI Radeon x 600 graphics card, which can be made to run the Aero desktop with a modded driver. So yes, you can install Windows 7. It may take an SSD, it's going to be a PATA/IDE SSD which is expensive compared to the SATA SSD, but they exist. The optical drive for hard drive adapters do not work well on this era of the laptop. The optical drive is IDE/PATA, but it's slower IDE like 33 MB/s for hard drives connected to this interface are very slow.

128 GB SSD PATA:

  • Compaq presario cq61: ssd in presario cq61 - 430ev

    I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ61.

I just bought a Kingston HyperX Savage 240 GB ssd for my laptop, I had already upgraded to windows 10. The placement of the drive was a success, but during the 'clean' windows 10 installation asking the the disk drivers. I contacted the support service of Kingston, and they said this:

"Please note that we do not really any specific drivers, the SSD would benefit from the planned system of system.
Some systems may require a storage of pre-installation F6 driver, who usually provided by the manufacturer of the system in your case it would be HP.
We recommend to check the following:
-If it doesn't matter what Windows 10 associates BIOS update available for your system (make sure than his most recent available for your system)
-Pre-installation F6 for your system storage driver (check the site of HP for these drivers).

Then I updated my system to the latest version of the BIOS, but nothing has changed.

I looked on the HP site, but I can't find any "storage of pre-installation F6 driver" or any other driver for ssd, so I can't install windows and use my laptop. What I would do about this problem? Help, please!

  • Can I use SSDS for Tecra A8

    Hello

you know, if it is possible to install a SSD driver for my laptop?
And if yes, what brand/manufacturer you would recommend?
I want to install Win7 Prof - something to take charge? Drivers, firmware, BIOS Version etc...?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

    Kind regards

    Peter

In General, is not a big problem to use a SSD instead of a HARD common drive.
The laptop supports the SATA interface and you use a SSD SATA 2.5 disk.
I can't recommend a specific brand, but in some rare cases, it may be possible that you need to update SSD firmware offering SSD manufacturer

  • Can satellite A210-1AO - I use SSD drive?

Can I replace the original HDD with ssd HARD drive? And where can I found the DSS Satellite A210-1AO drive compatibility list?

I doubt you can find a list of the SSD compatible discs for Satellite A210 since the Satellite A210 where not tested and not equipped with these drives
But as far as I know, there is not much difference between the use of the common SATA HDD or SSD SATA drive.

As mentioned, the laptop supports the SATA controller and you can use an SSD designed for SATA controllers
Usually this SSD drive should be ok.

  • Screen of C850 - 1 H 8 satellite flashes and turns off using SSD and win 8

Hello, I bought a C850 - 1 H 8 of Ebuyer and I removed the hard drive installed windows 8 on it and installed my SSD, and then a clean installed Windows 7.

The laptop was working perfectly, and then after a little more than a month, the headphone jack has become defective intermittently. I contacted Toshiba, they picked up the computer laptop, fixed and returned.

When the returned laptop, I still pulled the hard drive provided with Windows 8 and replaced by my SSD with Windows 7 top.

The laptop screen started flashing on and outside. So I thought ok, they must have changed the material. Using the SSD even I formatted it and then reinstalled Windows 7.

I find that contrary to front - that my laptop according to the system information for Windows - is manufactured by LG and not Toshiba.
I also find that the desktop screen and startup splash turned into a screen LG and not an a Toshiba.

I contacted Toshiba and they gave me, told me to ask for a replacement from Ebuyer. I was passed between the two companies constantly. Then I took the hard line with Toshiba and said that they have damaged my computer and I want a replacement or I will not buy another Toshiba product.

I then return a petulant response from Toshiba, actually insinuating that aside from the faulty earphone Jack, it was my fault. Incredible.

I had not used my new laptop at all really after all of this, because I'm sick of all this. But today I started to use it again, and after some time of use, the screen flashes again. Even after using a new installation of Windows 7 and the clean use of Toshiba Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the right model.

    What can I do?

    See you soon

+ The message was edited summer - subject wire +.

    > When the laptop returned, I still pulled out the hard disk provided with Windows 8 and replaced by my SSD with Windows 7 top.

It was not good because headphones is part of the motherboard and I think they replaced the motherboard. In such cases, the bulk of the material is changed and do not use the same system pre-installed due to the compatibility of the driver. This can lead to physical problems.

But the screen flashes at the beginning with 8 win preinstalled?
Have you seen the LG sign turn on/off the unit after replacing the mobo?

Maybe service guy (ASP authorized service provider isn't Toshiba but independent company) I forgot to update the DMI and therefore LG sign appears on the screen.
But in my opinion this should not affect the screen but this should be verified using Toshiba original image (Windows 8)

  • Satellite U840-111 - not used SSD

It has just delivered 14 "Ultrabook has an SSD and HDD.

Looking to the SSD with disk management I see that it is not used (without drive letter, 100% free).

Why not? Surely, it is there for a kind of quick start, then why is it not used?

The hibernation file should be on it? If yes how can I move it?

Someone tell me what I missed it please.

    Hello

As far as I know the SSD drive is connected to a slot mSATA directly on the motherboard.
The mSATA looks a lot like the mini-PCI slot but it s different.
However, the HARD drive is connected to the SATA controller and this is perhaps the reason for this.

  • MacMini 2012 - external start using SSD

    Hello

I just bought an external SSD drive and has research on youtube on how to swap the disk for my macmini 2012 (currently for the mavericks with 16 GB of RAM), when I came across "boot from external USB.

I have a spare USB3 Icy Box so fine my interest (whatever it is to save the invasive surgery), but also a few questions I can't easily find answers. I was hoping that the community can help.

Assuming I have not to erase the current internal drive...

    (1) if I boot from the external drive, SSD, can I back to the internal disk by disconnecting the external SSD drive, then set the startup options (either wielding Option keys when starting and selecting the drive where through 'System Preferences'-> 'Startup disk')?

    (2) can read/write on the existing internal drive, giving me a double configuration HDD? There will be permission issues? Or I have to format it in a blank disc to be usable?

    (3) if I do a clean install of Mavericks, can I then take the SSD drive and plug it into another mac (I have access to an early 2008 15 "MBP and a MacMini 2010...) all computers that run the mavericks to date) and then change the startup options? These 2 devices are USB2... performance will be worth "not"? I guess that all drivers for compatible Mac are already installed or do I have to reinstall?

    (4) can I dual boot OS? In order to keep the internal player as the mavericks and the external SSD as El Capitan (I can always have my USB key with a picture of El Capitan)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    # 1 no problem. You can always boot of ways with the Option key to select the startup disk. If the boot found in System Preferences drive > boot drive is not present it will start to another bootable disk but it ill take longer to start.

#2 I had no problem writing to my old internal drive but I cloned that drive again SSD. I any event, you should be able to select this drive in the Finder and right-click and select read the information and then under sharing and permissions to change the permissions. You must click on the padlock at the bottom of the screen and enter an admin PW to make this change.

#3 Yes you can. It will be slow with USB too but not that bad. Try it.

#4 Yes, just use the startup key Option to choose which you want to start to.

  • HP compaq 6730 s: SSDS for an 'old' Windows Vista laptop

    Hello world

I'm doing a general upgrade to my old computer, which I use to work for the (somewhat cumbersome) analyses of data. I plan to increase my RAM memory of 8 GB (see post here) and now I'm wondering if the upgrade of my internal storage would change something.

Change my HARD for one SSD drive would be possible / advisable? Can what types of SSD I use in this model? Should I update my windows OS too?

I am currently running XP 32 bit (after downgrading from vista) alongside with Ubuntu 64-bit.

I think that Vista and Windows 7 are optimized for SSD (7 specially, as related here) so, probably, that I would need to go to W7 too?

Thanks sp much for your help!

    Gonzalo

Vista is not optimized for one SSD in native mode. I recommend at least Windows 7 for one SSD. The current Linux kernels also have support SSD (active TRIM). You can install any 2.5 inches wide and 7 or 9.5 mm thick SATA SSD. My recommendation is a Samsung Evo 840 or 850 model. Avoid the MX100 Crucial he has caused a lot of problems reported here for reasons that have not yet been fully explained.

  • Performance increase using SSD for paging/extraction/cache or ReadyBoost? (Win7)

Hi, have an extra 16 GB SATA SSD and you are looking for a way to add my PC performance.  It would be useful for me to free 16 GB of the drive, if possible, or maybe speed up the system by a notch or two. Thought I might be able to move the pagination (fetch? cache?) files for the SSD of alternatives to increase the primary disk space, or designate the replacement ssd as a device for a slight speed boost readyboost. Any suggestions?

  • Problems with ImageAssist on the machines using SSDS m2 (NOT is)

    Hello guys,.

first of all, I must admit, I am facing ImageAssist the first time, so maybe I m ask stupid or boring. I tried the search within this Forum, but didn t get results...

Okay, so here´s I want to do... our new generation of material (E7270, E5570, OptiPlex7040 far, precision 7710) must be distributed to our subsidiaries around the world. Sometimes they must implement a customer, so I want to create a Sysprep Image BASE + APPS, which I can send to these guys here.

Here´s so what I've done (problem follows when restoring my Image)

for example allows to take the E5570, 8 GB of RAM, 256 SED m.2SSD. I installed Win7x64 Enterprise with a Microsoft ISO in a virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 11. My VM config: 4 GB of RAM, 60 GB HD, network in bridged Mode, turn off sound and VM printer and here my first question:

Inside VM:BIOS or EFI Mode and drive hard ACHI or SATA Raid or SCSI mode? OK, I m prepared and tried all the...

so after installing win7 and .net 4.5.2 (VMWare Tools also, for the use of slides &) and 2 Reg settings with regard to our environment (MaxTokenSize = 65535 and EnableLUA = 0) I created my BASE Image/Snapshot.

After you add a few packages of software, I created my BASE + APPS (always with VMWare Tools).

Next step, uninstall VMWare Tools... restart, after this judgment. now boot into DELL's PE and I created our MaintenanceImage to a network drive. So far all is working well, so I used the installation without assistance-creator tool and define our values (name & Company, selectable language, workgroup, computer name must be completed by the regional IT guy, and I checked to copy the profile to the default user profile... that s he)

Validation tool crossed without moaning, capturing also...

I sliced two of the Image (about 10 GB) to some 2 GB and copied on our USB key for testing purposes...

Stick plugged USBPort E5570, restored, added DELL drivers CAB files and after restoration, the E5570 started Win7x64 for the first time... everything worked fine, etcpp... devices to about 90 percent of the first boot, I get the message: "Windows cannot configure one or more system components. TI install Windows, reboot, and re-install Windows.

Hope someone could snap this suspicion to my face :D

I also tried a BIOS/MBR Installation with the 7710 of precision using a standard 2.5 "SSD... I didn t get an error or a problem with this one... restroing & syspreping went well

Waiting for lots of helpful tips to fix this :)))

Best wishes & greetings from Germany

    CHRIS

    Hello Tyler,

Problem solved, everything works like a charm...

    Thx for your help...

I have hp envy 6-1012tx with 32 GB ssd and 500 GB of hard drive. I cannt see ssd in my computer. Intel Rapid storage technology software shows as cache drive. I thought that this 32 GB will be available for me to data.but now, I can't understand why this 32 GB is not available in my computer. and how to use it.

I have a craving for 14 with the same case. The performance is really amazing. In fact, HP gave me 14 want to evaluate I does not. It is an i5. My own personal laptop is an i7 with a 512 GB SSD. The Envy 14 seems more fast especially with starting and opening programs. The bad part is very difficult to the new installation of the operating system. The combination of training of the WSSD 32 gig disk hard ordinary is a RAID array and try to install WIndows 7 comes up with a message that there is no hard drive, because the driver for the RAID is not present. I don't know what you want with the 32 gig drive, anyway. I think you get a ton of performance comes to renounce a paltry 32 GB of storage.

  • Cannot complete the reinstallation of Vista on Compaq laptop using the Compaq recovery disks. Tried to restore disk oem and new close to identical road. Errors: 0xc00000e9 and 0xc0000189 respectively

With no unusual occurrence that accompanies it, our laptop was able to start and would not initialize anything beyond a screen B & W style BACK and gave the first error (0xc0000e9) on this screen. After several unsuccessful reboots insert us the Compaq recovery disks and crossed the recovery (only full optional with such discs.) At the end of the transfer of recovery (from DVD on computer), the computer tried to restart and reported the same error message. We have seen anything past the transfer of files and B & W on the oem disk. I think the oem HD is bad. Web-surfing suggested the error was associated with a hardware failure and the DVD drive seems to work very well I bought a new HD almost identical to replace the oem version with. Both are Seagate Momentus 160 GB at 5400 RPM drives.

I re-inserted the recovery with the new installed hard drive disks and it loaded and seemed basically completely install Windows (computer is restored running several times and showed the Windows desktop with sequential programs etc. facilities.)

To restart the final success, I received an error message in the sense of "windows could not install: Please restart the installation process" and the 0xc000189 error code. I tried again and the result was identical, including the error message. In the process the emblazoned shortcut labeled sunflower administrator with "locked" below briefly appears before the above error appears above him. Navigation on the Web seems to suggest I've hit some kind of security problem that appears when an oem auto-installer is used. He was never a password of any kind on the laptop of our family, if there is one, it should be of Compaq.

It's an authentic (not stolen etc) oem new install of Windows (the laptop is only 18 months old) and I CD code on the computer but not the case in the installation me I asked for it. I don't know what you looking for installation.

I'm very confused and any help would be appreciated. Compaq is saying it's a matter of Windows of course.

  • If you use SSD what size minimum, you can use I'll just install the softwar winds 7 operation and put all the other programs on a hard drive Sata is the way it should be done?

I'm building a new PC, I have the motherboard and it has a location for an SSD, this who has the ability of minium are? and if this store just drive the sofware opererating only, as I intend to have all my programs and data on a SATA hard drive is the way to corect to go? Could someone ' a please advise please.

The minimum I recommend is 80 GB, if you can go for 128 GB to 160 GB, I would go for it.

Windows 7 uses 10 GB of disk space, and you have to take into account future, Service Packs and updates.

You must also consider your page file size that will depend on the amount of RAM you have installed.

Other disk space requirements include your programs and hardware drivers.

The benefits of having an SSD is to accelerate the performance of the operating system and applications. In order to have a just installed SSD for upgrading the operating system on a mechanical HDD as well as your programs wouldn't make sense. Store content or data that you create on the HARD disk.

When I put the Windows based guests on the SSD LUN, they get near speed ~ 450 - 475 MB/s.

But when the esxi guests invited nested Windows it contains, and I put this nested on the lun SSD, Windows prompt it you only ~ 120 MB/s.

The tool I use is SQLIO IOPS / s, MB/s and together to write and random read.

Is this normal? There is a bottleneck for the driver from the disk of the esxi?

    I think I could get at least 400 MB/s, but only 120 MB/s?

    Thank you

I/O bound tariffs of charges of work badly in nested SMV, particularly on hosted products (post work and Fusion).  When you run a VM nested under item of work/Fusion, 20-25% of a non-nested VM performance is fairly typical for a related workload I/O.
