HP deskjet2542: door-cartridge Hp deskjet 2540
Cartridge door disappeared. How can I get a replacement?
Hey @Supergran1,
Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here.
I see that you are having problems with the transport on your Deskjet 2540. I can help you with that.
For starters, transport on this printer doesn't have to be a removable piece. If you try to replace the cartridges from the printer must be connected and turned on. Once it is on, if you open the door at the bottom of the printer the transport should slide and you should be able to insert your cartridges. You can find more information on cartridge replacement in this document.
If you have any other questions please let me know. If this resolves your problems then please click on accept as Solution below my post.
I hope this helps and I hope you have a great week!

DeskJet 2540: Ink cartridges Deskjet 2540 because out of the box
I just implemented the Deskjet 2540 I bought yesterday, using the black and tricolor cartridges 301 which is entered in the box. Both cartridge lights are flashing now, and I get the error message that cartridges have failed. I tried to remove and reinsert the cartridges, power cycling the printer according to the instructions in the HP support and gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges. Nothing has worked. It seems that too much of a coincidence that the two print cartridges are defective right out of the packaging. Any ideas?
Time to take it for a refund or a replacement.

I just got a new HP Deskjet 2540 all-in-one yesterday, ordered from amazon.de, went through the installation of software on my 2015 Macbook Pro running OSX Yosemite, deleted the band contained in 301 ink cartridges provided, placed them in the printer (tricolor on the left, in black on the right) without touching the electrical contacts or the ink nozzles and tried and align the ink cartridges.
I met an error message:
'Incompatible ink cartridge.
Black [K]
The cartridge listed above is not intended for use in this printer as it is currently configured.
Please see using printer. "
Strange, but no matter, the bad seats maybe. I opened the drawer, removed black and reinstalled. Same error message. Well, I ordered an extra authentic HP 301 XL knowing I would run on Finally, maybe my ink cartridge provided was bad. I removed the 301 XL tape and installed. This time, no message error, but as soon as I went to print an alignment page, I received the same error. I went back between cartridges and sometimes I get the printer to accept it, but any attempt to use the printer caused an error message.
So I went on this forum, found a few tips on how to solve the problem. I tried the resets seats and the relocation and hard. Same error message. I went to clean the contacts, using a cotton swab, filter coffee and bottled water Jig only contacts of eletrical on two ink cartridges (normal and XL) and contacts of printers. I let them dry for 10 minutes and reinstall. Same error message, no progress.
I'm at a loss for what to do that this is a new printer and I say to myself that I would not have this much trouble. If I could get advice on what to do and more: seats/resettlement, cleaning the contacts, hard reset, it would be appreciated.
HI bchowseph,
I found some information about the printer product Specifications. It does not list the cartridge 301 for Western Europe. The 61 is for North America. I think I made the assumption that you were in the United States (my bad!)
I greatly apologize for the confusion!
Yet, the printer should accept the cartridges you had - so I think I can get a replacement printer is the right course of action.
The ink cartridges should be OK for a few days in an airtight container. You may need to run a routine cleaning cartridge if you see necessary ink missing once you have installed.
If you need to return the standard procedure is to call HP customer care.
I hope that everything works with the replacement printer. I also hope it is resolved quickly!

DeskJet 2540: Problem of cartridge Deskjet 2540
I bought a carton of color HP301XL real alternative with my new printer a year ago 2540 (John Lewis - & I have every two years warranty with them). A few months ago, when the ink of the trial missed, (& while the printer was still under warranty HP), I installed the new cartridge and it worked fine for a while.
A week or two there is the printer will not operate and displays a message indicating that the cartridge is empty and that it replaces. I use the print color VERY sparingly. The ink level display showed a lot of remaining ink and I did not see how the cartridge might have suddenly run out of ink.
I scoured the suggested remedies: clean contacts cartridge and printer (distilled etc.). After several attempts to clean-up, the printer started working again for a day or two, but then the almost nine (genuine HP) black cartridge empty also showed. More cleaning and the printer worked again for a day or two, showing both nearly full cartridges, ink indicators.
Since then I could not print and everytime I try, I get a variety of messages telling me the cartridge is empty or not a part of HP, or it is a cartridge 'more' and must be replaced.
It takes a lot of my time and I have other things to do than mess trying to convince the printer to work.
Could you help please, before that I resort to contact John Lewis for help and a replacement printer as possible?

HP deskjet 2540: stop page print quality and 'use printer wireless without router' printing
After installing the hp deskjet printer 2540, all operating systems (vista, windows, mac os, windows 8) correctly printed.
I would like to prevent the printing of print quality page whenever the printer is on and to prevent print also the page "use printer wireless without router" (it would be better not to waste the ink).
Thanks for any help you can provide
Hi there @lesart55.
Welcome to the HP community!
I have seen your post on how your Deskjet 2540 prints a page of print quality every time that the printer is on, and also the page "use printer wireless without router" is printing.
I'll start with the PQ page that prints at the start of the printer, as it is normally a sign of a hardware problem with the printer.
Try to update the firmware on the printer. Here is the link to download and run the update using a USB connection to your Vista system: HP Deskjet 2540 series Firmware update
Try a reset of the power to the printer and make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall, avoiding bars power and surge protectors. This ensures that the printer is full on and can help greatly.
Press the power button to turn the product on.
With the product, unplug the power cord from the back of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
If the product does not light by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.If the PQ page always print after you are done troubleshooting, try the steps outlined in this guide below. I looked at the steps that I see would take place in the tent for your specific problem and chose the steps following, Please do not take account of the actual title.
I hope that the problem has been cleared up for you at this stage. If this isn't the case, please call us directly to discuss your options of the printer!

HP Deskjet 2540 All In One: Unable to print color?
I have a Deskjet 2540 brand new all-in-One. Printer is delivered without any instruction manual. How to print color? I hit 'print' of my document and it comes out in black and white. When I type on the printer, the 'color' button, it draws just a piece of paper through the unit and nothing is displayed at all. I do not understand this crazy thing. My old printer didn't need me to tell it to print color or black and white, that he knew what was coming through the system. I'm about to make this thing.
Thanks, actually it would print test print color, just not when I tried to get a print document in color. new printer, new cartridges. Change my selection of the printer of HP Deskjet 2540 2540 Deskjet series just seemed to settle, I don't know why. I just mention it here in case other Mac users have the same problem.

HP Deskjet 2540: Yellow not right!
I recently adapted authentic HP 301 colour and black ink for my printer.
Since then, the yellow has been printing more as a color or as a pure yellow that makes any muddy color printing. Nothing not done, I ran all cleaning and diagnosis.
It's a questionable print cartridge or am I missing something?
See you soon
Hi @chefdude ,
I see that you are having problems after replacing the yellow cartridge. You ran all cleaning and Diagnostics with the same results. I would like to help you today.
I would like to do a hard reset to see if that will solve the problem.
Let the printer and disconnect the printer cable and the wall socket for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable to the output of the printer and the wall, and not a surge protector.
This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation.Try the following steps to see if it will solve the problem.
Most of the steps in this document, you may have already done.
This document explains how to manually clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge. Do not take into account the title.

I bought my printer a while ago and implemented so I could print wireless from my Mac. The other day I had to print some PDF documents and printed first, but the other two never printed. In the queue, it says "ready to print" and the two buttons wireless to the printer are turned on. It also does not print when I connect it to the USB port. But when I print the test page, which printed fine.
