  Hello, first of all sorry for my bad English.

  I have this Elitebook 8540w, who suddenly shows this problem: when I try it lights up, the screen remains black and all the leds on the switch cover are active. The wireless and the power led on the front are also active, while the disc and the electrical connection led are disabled. The fan is too active.

  That's what I tried:

  -Works with only the battery or cable

  -Reset the bios, remove the RTC battery

  -Change the RAM

  -Remove the internal Sata Drive

  -Remove the battery and cable, press and hold the power button for a minute and then install the battery and power upwards

  None of these actions has had some effect. What should I do?

• EliteBook 840 G1: Elitebook 840 G1: black screen with cursor after recovery from sleep mode

  Since yesterday, 15. August, whenever I take the laptop to sleep, all I get is a black screen and after a minute, a cursor on a black screen. The laptop does not revocer of this State. Only solution is to force the reboot.

  A reinstall of Win 10 has not changed anything.

  Video driver is version Intel official site. The version is 10.18.15.4248.

  I don't know if I got the version before the reinstall.

  I have installed nearly all other official drivers from the HP page packages.

  Any suggestions?

  Problem solved.

  Cause: I updated the 256 Vram 512 MB. This caused the mess. Put in back has solved the problem.

  This looks like an obvious bug to me, but who is responsible? Intel or HP?

  I have EliteBook 8440p with i7 M620, 4 GB of RAM and WIndows 7 64 bit installed.

  I wanted to update my RAM 8 GB as suggested here and bought 2 x 4 GB RAM of:

  KINGSTON ValueRAM 4 GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) SDRAM-DDR3 CL9-9-9 204pin 1.5 Volt

  I replaced the 2 GB card at the back of the laptop with the Kingston 4 GB and when I started windows:

  • The BIOS showed 6 GB of RAM
  • But blocked when Windows starts, your stay at the black screen with the "starting Windows" without the points colored forming in a window.

  I tried to restart, but no change.

  No idea which can try to solve this problem, or switch to 8 GB?

  I recently took an EliteBook 8440p, updated from an older model. I use this machine to play Eve Online while traveling. The problem I have is with the graphics card, it keeps reseting when some parts of the game to the top load, in particular, whenever my character in the play jumps through a wormhole, or a door of the stars, the game crashes, the screen goes black, gets and I get a message saying that card graph reset It's very persistent...   Once the new RAM is installed in the expansion slot, Windows will not start and crashes just on screen "starting Windows." Then I tried a test of memory using the system BIOS diagnostic tool, but the laptop either hangs around 35% (I left it there for about two hours), restarts, or stops altogether. I thought that I would give to the system try, repair tool but which caused also just the laptop restart. Curiously, when I check the "System information" tab the system diagnostics, the two RAM sticks are detected with current and accurate information.

  I contacted eBuyer, they sent a replacement out there, but I'm having the same problem again. So, I thought I would try to install new RAM in the internal slot instead (under the keyboard), but now I have a BSOD during the 'Starting Windows' screen, give me code error, "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

  I read on some forums tech upward. One of them suggested runs what is called 'Memtest' at startup via the CD, I tried, but the laptop restarts only during the first passage of the test of memory (and of course some loops over and over again until I remove the CD).

  I'm starting to lose hope! Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• No post after resetting bios HP Elitebook 8440p

  Good day HP,.

  I have reset the bios on an HP Elitebook 8440p, but after that it will not publish. The lights on the keyboard flash market / stop abit, and then it reboots constantly with no photo.  I removed the battery, hard drive, tried other types of ram, disconnected the bios battery for a while (under the keyboard).  Sometimes it starts with no picture on the screen but fan is completely and stays on for a while.

  Any tips?

  It seems that the customer has replaced with something matched ram (8 GB 1600 mhz crucial sticks). Ubuntu etc. would be fine and would install, however, anything with win7/win8 wouldn't work (and bios problems mentioned). Swapped the ram and everything works now.

  Hi, I have a problem with the hp Web site. When I choose my Elitebook 8440p product and search for drivers, I can't find the windows operating system 8 or 8.1 if 32 or 64 bits. I only find xp, 7 and vista. And one more thing, I can't change my laptop screen brightness as the brughtness icon is not available and the keyboard keys that have adjust the BRIGHTNESS do nothing no more. I searched a lot for a solution to this problem on Youtube and did all the steps but him has failed. So, go download the graphics card driver a solution or what I need to do. I can't take it anymore, the brightness is very high when plugged in and very low when you use the battary. And finally in my adapters to display my graphics card appears in the form (Microsoft Basic adpter display) then what kind of dirver should I download for it and not the window 7 work home based or professional if I couldn't find 8.1? Sorry for this long post, but I wanted to find out all my problems all together. Please someone answer quickly.

  Use the W7 32-bit more professional, and you would use the Intel HD graphics driver or Nvidia HD graphic driver according to which graphics adapter to your PC.

  I bought a refurbished elitebook 8440p with pre-installed windows 7, 8 GB of RAM, 2.40 GHz processor.  I continued to refuse the upgrade of windows 10 when he constantly jumped upward and then one day I turned on the computer and it updated in any cases without permission.

  Since the upgrade, if I shut down my computer, or try to put in standby or Hibernate mode, when I go to wake up or put on, I always get a white screen. Media creation tool asks for the product key which I type in the sticker on the bottom of the laptop, but do not pass the verification process saying to contact the manufacturer for help.  Apparently there may be specific drivers or something you took when it improved and the media tool does not allow me to create anything for me to do a clean reinstall of windows 7.

  I tried to find an option after pressing esc at the f11 reset start screen. There was no option to do so. The best I could do was to 'reset' of the computer, but he took back to the original Windows that it is firstly set at level 10 to. All my files are deleted from the computer. I just want to return to Windows 7, but could not find an effective way to do it.

  Hello, I just bought a HP Elitebook 8440p "off lease" of Tigerdirect and seeks to upgrade the two memory (from 4 GB to 8 GB) and put in the eligible of the biggest HARD drive I can. Either a 512 GB SSD or a 1 TB WD hybrid WD BLACK2 (1 TB HDD / 120 GB SSD Combo drive in a single package!). I would like to see more large disk addressable by using Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit OS since I don't seem able to find this info on the web. HP offers only only a 256 GB SSD in its specifications. but I didn't know if it was do limitations of BIOS or availability at the time of production, even for the HARD drive to 512 GB.

  Also, I would like to know if 9.5 mm compliant Bay that it needs to be for the WD drive. Can't find that either, and while the new laptop has not yet happen, all measure exactly the same way regarding what works and what simply cannot be "cheated".

  Essentially the reason why you do not have a maximum size of hard drive is because there is not everything. Between SATA and 64-bit OS', worrying about maximum size of hard drive is a thing of the past. Are the biggest readers found in the manual, as you suspected him, just a function of the market at the time of manufacture. It was a few years ago now, it is so understandable that the offerings were "at the time" more thin than now.

  Page 4-9 shows the procedure of the Bay and the replacement of the hard disk. The Bay is made for a 9.5 mm thickness 2.5-inch wide SATA hard but the new 7 mm readers also works. The black hybrid drive requires some software (included in the package) to treat the two drives in Windows and I read a modest amount of disappointment in the documentation about them. If you can afford the 512 GB SSD go in this direction and you will not be sorry. I use a Samsung 840 Evo and it has worked perfectly for me for almost 2 years and the most recent 850 I hear is even better.

  No triple monitor supports, sorry to say. You can have 2 of the 3, but not all 3 at the same time. The only way to do it is to get something like a USB to HDMI adapter to add the third screen.

  I have an Elitebook 8740w HP with Windows 7 which takes longer than 5 minutes to start. It will sit on a black screen with the mouse (which moves), until finally, it loads the login screen.   Hello! I think that I may have a solution to our problem of the black screen with the circle of rotation.

  I came across this post today because my iPhone all nine 7 (which I've upgraded to the latest ios) also got stuck on a black screen with the circle of rotation. I tried to update some of my apps, when suddenly the screen froze. I clicked once on the home button and the screen become black with the subsequent appearance of the circle of rotation.

  I have tried everything - simultaneously press the home button and power (does not work). connected to itunes to do a restore (it won't let me not because my "find my iPhone" was turned on - but I could not turn off because my phone was insensitive).

  In any case, a very useful Mr. Damon (Senior Advisor to Apple) helped me via chat to solve the problem.

  Here's what I did:

  1. make sure that your iPhone is disconnected from the socket or the computer.

  2. hold the POWER button and the VOLUME DOWN button at the same TIME. If it works, the screen should turn off almost immediately.

  3. connect your iPhone to the computer. (when I have connected to the computer, my iPhone automatically on and was ready to be reused).

  The steps below are for those whose iPhones did not turn with the above steps. The following steps are designed to allow you to disable remote your 'find my iPhone', so you can do a manual restore from iTunes.

  4. go to www.icloud.com.

  5. click on Find iPhone

  6. given that the phone is turned off already, he won't be able to find it. On the top bar, click DEVICES.

  8. click on "delete account".

  9. go into your itunes and do a restore.
