  I currently have 4 GB of ram, and I recently took a 4 GB stick on another laptop. When I add the new RAM, Windows crashes. The BIOS reads the new RAM (8 in total), but Windows won't load. The new RAM is <4gb 1rx8="" pc3l="" 12800s="" -="" 11="" -="" 12="" -="" b4="">what I've read, the speed max is 10600 on this computer. Is there a way to reduce the RAM? BIOS is locked and not helpful. My questions are: is the speed, the only question? Is there a way to fix this?   The speed is not the only problem, it's the tension. Your original brief was 1.5 volts and this new memory is 1.35 volts. It can run at 1.5 volt, but prefer not to and you did not provide a part number for the module, but if it is high density (4 black blocks on each side) it will not play nice with the original HP module. Do yourself a favor and get the memory of one of the good sellers, Crucial, Kingston, etc., that is specified as compatible with your specific model. Intel Core of first generation like yours are very capricious in memory.

  Migration of CS4 breaks the license. That's what 150:30 means. Assuming you are using a Mac.

But under the control of configuration\systeme and Security\System, it says my windows is activated. It is an OEM with Windows7 system House. Did that clone a new (bigger, 1 TB) hard disk and then install. In addition, windows update does not work now either. Said the service is not running.

  You have installed RemoveWAT at some point in the past.

  Now we must try to clear up the mess :(

  Best way to fix it now (since we do not know what version of RemoveWAT served) is to run WATFix...

  Download WATFix - make sure you click the link in the page, not the big shiny buttons! - and use it.

  Then post back with another MGADiag report, and we will see what we can do.

I thought that if I had to replace the drive, I might as well have a larger capacity drive. Are there specific readers to my computer, or I can just pop in any computer portable HARD drive 2.5 "?

  In my opinion in the case of HARD drive, it is important to choose the right HARD disk capacity. I found the info max capacity of the HARD disc on this unit is 40 GB (factory setting). I put t really know what is the maximum capacity, but I think that 40 GB will be sufficient. Am I wrong? ;)

  With the RAM, you must be very careful. You must use compatible module because if you use wrong one, it can happen that the unit does not start. Because of this, it is recommended to use proven modules. Stefan has posted numbers on the right side of all compatible modules.
  Just FYI: your device can handle with 1 GB RAM max.

• Install upgrade-drive HARD T42 recovery discs but hard disk starts only in routine of Rescue and Recovery.

  I am doing a new installation in what follows rather than cloning because the system has not been reinstalled for 4 years.  A CD drive external usb (internal drive deleted), I installed the recovery disks on a 160 GB Samsung HM160HC PATA drive without problem.  Then you click on the button restart.  My T42 started immediately in the opening page of the routine of Rescue and Recovery.  On restart again once I use F12 to get the list of readers with the Samsung HDD.  This did not help.  Repeated many times start.  The computer could not watch any other player because the Samsung is the only one connected.  I'm tempted to download the update of the BIOS available from Lenovo that connected with the old 30 GB disk, while that my program of on-board controller is worm 3.04 and supposed to be suitable for the 160 GB drive upgrade.  If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

  Once the machine has restarted in recovery environment, there is an option there to restore to factory condition?

  IIRC, on these older machines, the restoration is a two-step process.  First use the CD to recreate the environment of recovery, then start the environment recovery and restore from the recovery partition BONE now restored.

  Hello:

  What appears in the BIOS?  4 GB or 8 GB?

  If only 4 GB appears, the module of memory in the lower memory compartment is defective, or the slot on the bottom of your PC memory is faulty.

  If you have replaced any existing memory in your laptop, put it back in and see what happens - or under the keyboard to determine if this 4 GB chip is bad and 6 GB now shows upwards or downwards to see if 6 GB appears or remains at 4.

  My money is a hardware problem.

  Where should I start... Have Tecra A2 and the HARD drive died on this issue... was not able to recover whatever it's him so bought a new HARD drive.

  I am currently in the process of upgrading the RAM in my Elitebook 8540w. I have the i7 Intel M620 (dual-core) and bought the computer in August 2010. I also have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and 2x2gb (total 4 GB) of RAM.

  Now, I see 2 contradictory statements in this document. On page 7, it is said that 8 GB modules are only compatible with quad-core processors (represented by two asterisks) and that it would be possible to have 8 GB (2x4gb) total in my case. Then, on page 18, the table indicates that a configuration of 2x8GB (16GB total) would be possible since there are no asterisks in addition to this configuration.

  So who is the maximum I can put in: 2x4gb or 2x8GB?

  The document is for many products for the complete series. Looks like your machine is a machine double heart so it only it supports only 8 GB for 2 slots (the first * indicates 8Gb each slot, and a quad core, you can get up to 4 x 8 = 32 GB).

I hv seen on the external HARD drive option but the drive external HARD come with a USB 2.0 interface and I think that it data transfer will be very slow. which is why need a HARD drive upgradation internal.

  Well Yes, you can add 500 GB HDD to this book... In order to reduce the thermal problem, I suggest go with 5400 RPM... You may not really need upgrade memory for the performance of 500 GB hard drive...
