It was easy to have detected it, however, I realize it loses connection every time that the macbook is left idle for a period of time (a few minutes)...   I also have this problem with my iPhone 5 but not with my 6 s more.

  I usually go to Bluetooth in settings and try to disconnect and connect to Bluetooth.

  The index is with your comment "of the new batteries installed.    Once you have upgraded to 10,11 El Capitan, there is a mouse specially designed for this OS.   It is not really spoken aloud, but the box for the Magic Mouse 2 has a clear statement to be for OS 10.11 (+).   As operating systems go for ever higher, it may make sense to buy new mouse because all subsequent operating systems will need the facilities of this new creature.    The old mouse will work to some extent, but not, it seems, 100%.

  I'm going to hurt to keep my mouse Bluetooth Sony VGP-BMS11 connected to my laptop installed with the windows operating system 8. I connect it with the 'add device' Manager, but it only works for a few hours at most. If I shut my phone off or put it on sleep, the mouse doesn't even when the laptop wakes. I'll have to maintain the extraction device and put it back.   I recommend you in Win 7 the power management of the energy saving settings.
  There you can change (disable) WLan Card to save energy.
  It helped in my case.
