HP Envy 17/2000: Is hybrid GPU multiplexed or MUXless?

My laptop is HP Envy 17 2099el with 3D support, it is the 2nd gen Envy 17 series. A very nice machine, I like it a lot.

It comes with a hybrid video card, part is 2nd generation, integrated Intel GPU, another Radeon 6850 M discrete GPU.

What is a MUX - ed or MUX-less system?

MUX - ed system is one in which the two GPU is connected to the display via switching multiplexer, where the name.

MUX-less system is one in which the Integrated GPU is always linked to the display and the discrete GPU is used only for rendering, do not display.

The laptop has what we call "switchable" graphics. As its name suggests it means that you should be able to use either for these tasks. However, you can of course only use one at a time. Here is a little more information on the switchable graphics in HP laptops.

By your definition that would make a MUX - ed system.

I hope it's useful!

    Hello

I see that your computer should be a model from 2011. I could be wrong but HP computers once 2012 come with UEFI - I really don't know, but that's what I found on the Internet.

If she says legacy, maybe it's just the BIOS that has no extension UEFI, or it coul be your BIOS/UEFI boot mode is set to Legacy mode

Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is just the firmware code to a chip on the motherboard that provides additional functionality beyond the input/output system BIOS (Basic). UEFI is a way of doing things with your computer before loading the operating system. For example, UEFI can provide menus very graphics and information on a computer and a diagnostic system based on a computer and tablet. UEFI works with the BIOS to initialize the hardware before handing over control of the hardware of the operating system. UEFI can also load and display software storage devices to provide even more features, such as more detailed system information and extensive hardware diagnostics. More information:

If your computer came with Windows 7 preinstalled originally, most likely your computer lacks UEFI because computers that came with 8 preinstalled Win and were supposed to be win 8 certified had UEFI + active SecureBoot.

Regarding the original question, Apple Mac OS is only officially taken supported devices and hardware from Apple.

  • HP Envy 14-2000: Windows 10 on HP envy 14-2000?

Hello! I use a HP Envy 14-2000, and I want to upgrade the operating system to Windows 10. Windows 10 will be correct for this laptop? Or is I meet problems? I just need to make sure before I update since I've heard so many horror stories about upgrades of Windows 10. Thank you!

    voodooenvy

First of all, don't be fooled what MS has written about the compatibility of the upgrade of ANY PC to Win10.  I did and he ransacked two of my PC so I had to restore it to the original factory condition to get them working again.

If you upgrade your PC to Win10 and he trashes is and contact you MS, they you send HERE and disavow any responsibility to screw up your PC.  We see this same problem over and over again.

Then, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem, that you are facing is that Microsoft provides only pilots with the most basic features and what you really need for these features in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific material found in laptops - and unfortunately, there is no HP Win10 laptop driver.  HP is not no matter what timetable indicating when, or IF, they will produce drivers for older machines.

However, for the MS drivers that don't work well, you might consider using drivers HP Win8 - although there is no guarantee that these drivers will work.  Here is the link to the page of software and drivers HP product for Win8 to your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-14-2000-Notebook-PC-series/5091481/model/5118491

You may need to install the drivers using the compatibility mode: http://www.windows10forums.com/articles/compatibility-mode.7/

However... Before any upgrade, I strongly suggest that make you an image backup of your system to an external hard drive or a large USB key. This is VITAL, because the machine may fail the upgrade, and if so, you will learn that GoBack to Win10 function is NOT reliable, and that can leave you with a corrupt machine that will require the factory reset and lose all that on it, to get it working again.

You can avoid this by making an image backup to an external hard drive or a USB drive using Macrium reflect (MR), which provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or drives together.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

Thirdly, Windows Update is easier, but less reliable, how to make the upgrade to Win10.  A much better and more reliable way is to use Microsoft Media creation tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10 choose the upgrade this option now PC.

    Good luck

  • Laptop HP 2000: problem laptop GPU

After the upgrade to Windows 10 a few days ago, I realized something.  Games and movies, I ran before the upgrade no longer well perfroming; FPS, decreased dramatically to the point were it makes games unplayable and very bad films.  After doing some research on some sites, I determined that the problem was with my graphics card.  My GPU, an AMD Radeon HD series 7340, is not supported by Windows 10.  When looking for technology in the device under Graphics Manager, Microsoft base adapter screen replaced.  I can't find more my card in the computer.  I thought to upgrade to a more recent AMD GPU.  With my computer, is it still possible?  If so, how should I go to?  The answers would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you! -7P2J1S

You certainly can't pass the video because it is welded directly on the motherboard.

Regarding the drivers, it is a known problem and there are solutions involving manually or force Windows 8.1 driver installation.

I'll be able to spend to the 10xx GTX as a 1060 series, or maybe a RX 480 without any obsolete BIOS problem? I know that some old motherboards from HP could not start even a card GTX series 7xx due to an outdated BIOS that HP did not update.

    Hello

You said that the jury is listed with FRIEND 8.21. Check that your PC is running FRIEND 8.21?

You shouldn't have a problem to start the recent graphics cards, if your computer is running a version 8 BIOS. Ensure that the selected card suits and corresponds to the power supply of your PC.

One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  • Envy 15 k233ca: memory upgrades and hhd

I'm trying to find out if the k233ca has a capacity of upgrade. By reading the plug here and there, the motherboard has 2 slots and there is 1 to 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3L module.

When I called customer service to see if there was a favorite of the seller, they told me that the Ram was not expandable as the machine has only 1 location and tot of the MB does support up to 8 GB.

    Well...

As a technician, I'm leaning towards believing the former rather than the latter, and since I did not open upward again, I checked Everest and it shows 2 slots, one with a 8 GB module and a location empty.

Before I open the unit to find this information for me, I wondering if someone is more familiar with this device, or can point me to a more detailed specifications and current page?

    My questions are specifically,

    1. What is the model of the motherboard more precisely and will support 16 gig?
    2. This is a configuration of dual slot, so I can use 2 x 8 GB modules?
    3. Can I use a low latency Ram? replace the original module to match of course...
    4. Is there a QVL for this MB?

Now for the HHD, a question... This machine will support SSD?

    Based on the HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC HP ENVY Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide of m7, it seems you should be able to switch to 16 GB of RAM and an SSD as follows;

    Memory

    Two SODIMM slots
Support of the DDR3L - 1600 MHz Dual Channel
Supports up to 16 GB of RAM in the following configurations:
    ● 4096 MB total memory (4096 × 1).
    ● 8192 MB total memory (4096 × 2)
    ● 8192 MB total memory (8192 × 1).
    ● 12288 MB total memory (8192MB 4096)
    ● 16384 MB total memory (8192 × 2)

    Hard drives

Supports 6.35 cm (2.5 in.) 9.5 mm hard disks (. 37-in) and thicknesses of 7.0 mm (. 28 - in) (all hard drives use the same bracket)
    Storage SATA m2 (Port0)
    Accelerometer / HDD protection support
    Supports the following drives:
    ● 1.5 to 5400 RPM, 9.5 mm
    ● 1 TB 5400 RPM, 9.5 mm
    ● 750 GB 5400 RPM 9.5 mm
    ● 500 GB 5400 RPM 7mm / 9.5 mm for PC portable HP ENVY 15 only
    The hybrid configurations
    ● 1 TB 5400 + 8 GB NAND hybrid disc HARD 9.5 mm
    ● 750 GB 5400 + 8 GB NAND HARD 9.5 mm drive hybrid
    SSD drive

Only configured with up to 8 GB system memory:
    ● 256GO M.2 SATA (MLC)
    ● 256GO M.2 SATA (TLC)
Double storage configuration for the HP Envy 17 computer models
    ● 1 TB (5400) 9. 5 mm + 256 GB SSD SATA in m2 (TLC)
    ● 1 TB (5400) 9. 5 mm + 256 GB SSD SATA in m2 (MLC)

Please note that it requires an extensive disassembly and reassembly of the computer to make these improvements, including

remove, replace or loosening the screws up to 83. Also, note that other RAM/HDD/SSD configurations can run on this computer. It may be possible to have a facility that includes 16GB of RAM, a standard SATA III SSD and/or m2 SATA SSD card, but you will have to experiment to see specifically what works on your model.

    Update 1511031825

I've done some research more and right now, that's how I've got.

1 USB has been named as HP_TOOLS

2 within the USB, directories must be performed as Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/current

    3. in the "Assets" folder, I have files '018DE.bin' and '018DE.sig '.  These files were backup of the original HP HP_TOOLS within this portable partition before I deleted.

RESULT : Laptop load screen of the BIOS update, but the update will fail with the note saying "BIOS recovery system has no" 'could not open the BIOS image file.

    Any ieads on that?

I did some research more and was able to put the pieces together to get this problem solved my self.

    Laptop is now running.  Yay!

    Hello:

There is no W7 drivers for this model.

Your only hope is to try the drivers directly from AMD for graphics, usb3, and smbus controllers...

First install the chipset driver and restart.  You want the first driver on the list.

    http://support.AMD.com/en-us/download/chipset?OS=Windows%207%20-%2064

Graphics card: 1 driver on the list.

    http://support.AMD.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&OS=Windows%207%20-%2064

    Ethernet: Try this one...

This package contains the Realtek driver local area network (LAN) that allows the NIC (NIC) Realtek chip in the notebook models that are running an operating system supported.

    File name: sp68120.exe

    Unknown may be this...

This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard software (HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection) for the laptop models running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard software protects the drive hard by parking the heads if cell phone accidentally falls, or is suddenly struck by another object.
