HP G60 - 550CA: HP G60 - 550CA to a Solid State Drive upgrade

I recently bought a 240 GB SSD to upgrade my laptop G60 - 550 CA and am presented with a problem. I installed the new drive in the machine and when I went to use the recovery disks that I created when I bought the laptop I am presented with a message that the installation cannot continue because the size of the disk hard does not match the size of the original disk. The old drive was 250 GB. I have updated for Windows 10 and intended to reinstall Windows 7 and 10. I didn't want to clone the drive out to the new because I would like to start with a fresh install to get rid completely of the old software. I also have a USB for Windows 10 installation and if possible, I would just install Windows 10 No 7 in all. The questions I have for you are:

(1) he mentioned during the creation of restoration of Windows 10 USB key if I wanted to do a stand alone install that a Windows 7 product key would be necessary. The problem is that the product key sticker on the bottom of the laptop has become partially cleared and I can't make all the numbers/letters. I had the computer since new and can provide any information you need on your laptop. Is there a way to get this number of product key Windows 7 from HP?

(2) I had created a recovery disk when I bought the machine so is possible that I can install the original OS using the recovery disk set when the new drive is smaller than the old 10 GB disk?

(3) if I clone the old drive, I am able to retrieve it using the Windows 7 recovery disc and reinstall Windows 10 without any problem?

As I said, my ultimate goal is to have a clean install of Windows 10 without traces of old unwanted software. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello:

If your original installation of W10 has been enabled successfully before the installation of the SSD, you should be able to do a clean install with the W10 installation media (or use the Setup file of a W10 USB flash drive I guess you did from the link below).

I did it so I know it works.  I did the DVD.

Here is the link to the DVD W10...

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10

Boot from the DVD and it will present you with 2 options... Enter a product key and I don't have a product key.

You select the I don't have a product key option and installing W10.

Once you're connected to the internet, activation should be automatic and successful since the activation server "knows" that W10 has been legitimately installed and enabled previously on your PC.

  • G60 upgrade card mother, processor and wireless card

I have a hp g60-237nr. I'm looking to upgrade the motherboard with something that has a dedicated video and can take an Intel processor. Also, I want to run the fastest cpu I can to this Council. I also like the faster wifi card for this advice as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well here is the best motherboard for him:

Thank you for your enthusiasm and ambition, but the problem is going to be the best motherboard to use nVidia GeForce 9200 video which is old and not very strong and the system tops out at 4 concerts which is not a lot of RAM these days. The parts you want will not be very expensive, largely because they are outdated and not very useful.

But if you have to pay for the labor to do this, it will be unaffordable.

I know that people grow attached to their laptops, but if you want to get your up-to-date computing power, it is the time to buy a new laptop. If you want to continue to move forward, after return, we can help you find the parts you need. It is likely that will have to be eBay; HP no longer the motherboard in stock that I am sure.

  • How to install windows 7 on a laptop after hard drive crash?

I have a G60-235DX laptop where the hard drive is going bad.  It came with Windows Vista installed and then has been upgraded via the program from windows 7 to windows 7.  The hard drive is bad and now only works when it feels like it.  I have a replacement hard drive on the road and want to be able to reinstall windows 7 without having to pay anything.  Is it possible to do?  I don't like on the files on the computer, only the operating system.  Can I do something?  Thanks in advance!

Yes, the disc is a disc 'upgrade', but you should not need to upgrade to Vista. According to "SUPERSITE of Thurrott", you should be able to install multimedia upgrade without a previous installation and activate it. The key seems to penetrate the Windows product key, that the installation is completed, instead of first application. Please try this and let us know how it goes.

  • upgrade processor G60

Hello I have a laptop G60-530US older and who plan to make the updates with the CPU. I have a few sitting around and want to use something other than the T4300.

I called HP several times and got the "Please hold while I direct your call", then take a cut.

All I want is the compatibility list CPU so I can see what I have and see if I can install it. I know it's an Intel Socket P, so it can be replaced. I've updated the BIOS F.65.

The system runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with 8 GB of RAM plans

I have about 12-20 Socket P processors laying around, ranging from T6 *, * T7, T8 *, to T9 *. So all I need to know is what is the maximum supported CPU?

If I am changing it might as well bring the best in is what I say!

Or just the support list so I can install the right one in my collection.

Help, please... No one has any info

    Hello again indianmetallord,

  • G60-230US == > does not connect to the wireless network

    Greetings...

I got my new laptop a G60-230US with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 yesterday... I was so excited. I quickly put in place and the network manager. He finds my home network (a router we Robotics MaxG 5641), had the exceptional signal strength, I have provided the password. It didn't connect to the network. I have 3 other devices without any problem. Then I disabled the firewall, antivirus etc. on the computer, I've disabled the security on the router and tried... Still no luck. I called the help desk yesterday evening, and a clueless CSR tried to 'Help me' After I turn the router, computer, WIFI (everything that I had already tried), she suggested that I should contact my ISP and get a new password. I explained to him that the password has been created by me for my own US Robotics router and ISP had nothing to with her... She just kept saying the same thing... and I politely thanked her and hung up at midnight...

This morning, I tried something else. I tried ipconfig / all and I don't have any useful info, except that it says "Device off" I tried ipconfig/release and he told me that the action must be raised. I am the administrator on this computer.

U.S. Robotics indicates that this default router should work for Vista, because a router is independent of the operating system

    Any idea is extremely appreciated...

    Thank you!

    Shankar

I went to the office today max and I bought a new router D-Link Wireless N for $40. Came home and set up... and this baby is immediately connected to 130 Mbps! I'm all set... Great computer... I'm glad it works...

  • HP G60 laptop boots HP logo, and then recycles - Windows 7

I just installed a new keyboard on my laptop G60 running Windows 7 Enterprise Edition. before putting the screws in the battery compartment area, I replaced the battery and turned on my laptop unpluggced to see if the new keyboard work. Everything worked perfectly.

So I closed the lid of my laptop, removed the battery, put the screws, replace the battery and press the power button, now my laptop boots as much as the HP logo, with the option to press ESC to the Start Menu, then the screen goes black and travels to the HP logo. This cycles goes and indefinitely. I am able to access the Start Menu. I removed the new keyboard and tried to start it again - same thing. I then tried using my old keyboard to see if that makes a difference - no change.

    Any advice? Thank you.

Hi - I tried that after I posted this question, and it turned out to be a previously installed update that was causing the problem. I had to restore my system to a previous date before the update was installed, and this has solved the problem. Thank you!

  • Can I make my HP G60 running Windows 7 64 bit?

Currently, my system has 3 GB of RAM that I know can not support 64 bit and I need at least 4 GB but is there something I can replace (as perhaps the card mother?) to make it work? I have some knowledge about the things of this question, but I hear people say that such things are not possible, but then there are people who say it's possible. I really appreciate any help, thank you!

You have it backwards. You don't need 4 GB of RAM to run 64-bit Windows; you need 64-bit Windows support more than 3 GB of RAM. We would need to know the exact model, but as far I know most if not all G60s will run 64-bit Windows. All that is needed is a 64-bit processor. If the computer has a 64-bit processor, it obviously has a card mother and chipset supporting a 64-bit processor. All AMD Turion x 2 processors are 64-bit, for example. Even some Semprons and Celeron 64-bit processors. You can install Windows 64 bit on 2 GB of RAM, as long as the processor supports. There is no reason to do so, but it can be done.
