For all Cisco SKU (Stock keeping units), the '=' at the end means a piece of spare or ordered separately article.

Without a '=' means usually the exact same item is ordered in a parent configuration - for example, a SFP as an optional part of a module switching.

They are exactly the same physical part.

  • can I use both optical and fiber sfp modules?

    Hello

I have 2 stacked 3548 P PowerConnect switches. The top switch got uplink fiber of 1 MM (G1) to another switch in a different building. If the top switch has 1 free uplink port and the lower 2 switch free uplink ports. Recently, we bought 2 servers Poweredge R620 and I would like to connect them to the Gigabit ports. The 'normal' switch ports allow only 100 Mbit/s, so I plan to buy 2 modules SFP 1000Base-T (for copper) to connect to them.

Is this feasible? Can I use G2 on the top switch for SFP 1000Base-1 T? Is this allowed?

    Kind regards

    Erik

Yes, it's quite feasible. The connection will be configurable the same 100 Mbps ports. Here is a link to the part number for the 1000Base-T transceiver.

  • the ACS 5.1 and cisco ACE module

    Hello

I would like to configure Ganymede + aaa Catalyst 6500 Cisco application control engine module. In the configuration guide for ACE it is advice that you need to configure additional parameters to be returned by the RADIUS server (shell:= ...) ) for authorization of virtual context Cisco ACE. My question is: where exactly should I put these settings in the ACS 5.1? Is there a document describing ACE + ACS 5.1 configuration Ganymede?

  • Can I connect SFP GLC-LH-SMD connector lc single fiber on Cisco 897VA Module?

    Hi all

Please can I connect SFP GLC-LH-SMD connector lc single fiber on Cisco 897VA Module?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have only a single glass fiber then the GLC-LH-SMD = is NOT good

because it is for double connection to a pair of fiber.

You would like more information by your ISP, you will most likely need a GLC-BX-D (RX-TX/1310 nm, 1490 nm) or a GLC-BX-U(1310-nm TX/1490-nm RX)

    See below

1000Base-BX10-D and 1000BASE-BX10-U SFP for bidirectional single fiber Applications

SFP 1000BASE-BX-D and 1000BASE-BX-U, compatible with the IEEE 802.3Ah standard 1000BASE-BX10-D and 1000BASE-BX10-U, carried on in a single strand of SMF standard.

A 1000BASE-BX10-D device is always connected to a device of 1000BASE-BX10-U with one strand of SMF standard with functioning of the chain of transmission, up to 10 km.

The communication on a single strand of fiber is achieved by separating the wavelength of transmission of both devices, as shown in Figure 2: 1000BASE-BX10-D transmits a channel 1490 nm and receives a signal of 1310 nm, while 1000BASE-BX10-U transmits at 1310 nm wavelength and a signal of 1490 nm. As shown, the presence of a separator of multiplexing (WDM) length of wave-division integrated with SFP to split the 1310 nm, 1490 nm light railways.

Figure 4.      Two-way transmission of a single strand of SMF

GLC-BX-D and SFP GLC-BX-U supports also digital Optics (DOM) of the functions of surveillance in accordance with approval of the standard of the industry (MSA) multisource SFF-8472. This feature gives the end user the ability to analyze parameters in real time of the FPS, such as the optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current and transceiver supply voltage.

  • LACP hash between N3048 and CISCO SG300/SG200 + question Twinax attach direct cable

    Hello

In my network I have deployed two new N3048 with 2 transceivers SPF + and SPF module back + as core switches are connected to other 3 switches from edge of N2048 using optical fiber and I reused my previous CISCO SG300 and SG200 goes to serve the other two boxes of my campus via the spine in copper.

I have 4 copper cable which starts from the hub of the SG300 network and 2 the SG200 brass. I set up to have a redundant connection using 2 + 2 with SG300 and 1 + 1 with SG200 RSTP.

So for the SG300 I re LAG + LACP to have two channels of the N3048s port, but now that a single cable is connected because I don't know what kind of LACP hash mode should I put on N3048 to have a compatible hash between Dell and Cisco switches.

My N3048 have mode 7 (Advanced hash) as default but I guess that cisco models do not understand... so, what mode is the best for LACP work perfectly with small business cisco switches?

I also received my twinax cables to connect my two N3048 via SPF + back modules... conhot can I plug the cables into the slots SPF + (already mounted) without turning off my basic switches?

    Thank you!

    See you soon

Cables can be connected/disconnected, but I don't know if the real module SFP + for the rear of the N3000 is hot plug.

What do you really want?  Ask yourself if it's a "good idea" to use brand X SFP in Cisco equipment?  If so, it is to you.  I believe that if you have problems with these SFP modules, Cisco will not support you unless you use their SPFS.

Then, if the brand X SFP work and they cost less, then it can be a "good idea."  If you have problems, then it may not be a "good idea."  Can't tell how the reduced cost (?) vs Cisco support is important to you.  It's something you have to decide.

  • For Fast Ethernet SFP modules

    Hello

We are looking for fiber-to-ethernet converter.

Is there any SFP module that plugs directly into the Fast Ethernet to a switch port.

Please visit the following link: -.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/ps6578/product_data_sheet0900aecd801f931c.html

He said "the Cisco100BASE-X Form Factor Pluggable SFP (Small) (Figure 1) is a hot output device that plugs into the Fast Ethernet ports, dual rate Fast/Gigabit Ethernet ports or Gigabit Ethernet from a Cisco switch ports or a router, which connects the port with the fiber cabling network.".

If this module can be plugged into any port of FE, is it compatible with Cisco switches only?...

    Please reply,

    Thank you

    Amit

The SFP port is just a place where the optical SFP is sitting in the switch (connect internally to power, data bus, etc.). SFP offers you the possibility to install a plug-in to adapt to the requirement of the network; If short-range fiber, fiber long reach or same RJ45 without changing an entire line card or switch.  SFP ports are integrated in the switch by a manufacturer, not bolted on after.  The specification for the connector module and SFP interface is detailed in an SFP MSA (multi-source agreement); designed to offer a platform in the industry to build.

If your switch has a fixed electric port and you do not have access to power (for a converter to media or other), then the terminal switch will be replaced by a device with a fiber interface option. That, or you'll find a power on fiber system with enough power to drive a Media Converter (which I don't think that there are still).

    I hope this helps!

  • SG500 5 GB SFP module

    Hello

I was wondering what fiber SFP module that I use to stack 5 GB SG500 referrals.

In the data sheet it is said SFP - 10 G - SR can be used for battery of 10 GB switches of SG500X, but does not say if she can or cannot be used on the SG500.

I use mulitmode fiber and the distance is less than 200 m.

    Thank you.

Tom, this was to be the most infuriating conversation to read. The poster kept asking what FPS to use for exploitation at 5G FIBER, and you kept giving him options of COPPER to a limited cable length. He said several times that length copper SFP fixed does not work because of the switches being some distance.

Girard, according to the Guide of Directors, 10GbE fiber will only work at speed and can not 'falling' at 5GbE. There is no module fiber that run to 5GbE, only 1 GbE and 10 GbE. If you need fiber, your uplink is limited to 1GbE, as the SG500 does not support fibers 10GbE.

See the guide for more information (Page 66/67):

    Hi Experts,

I would like to know if a channel of ether can be created using two different SFP modules IE using

GLC-sx-mm and glc-lh-sm on a switch or any other device.

    Thank you

    Abdul Malik.

I have tried something like this in production. But bearing in mind that you can group copper and SFP interfaces in etherchannel so they have the same speed, L2/L3 config etc I think it's possible... but not 100% sure

  • LAN-to-LAN tunnel between VPN 3000 and Cisco 1721

    Hello

    I have a current LAN-to-LAN tunnel configuration between VPN 3000 (3.6) and Cisco 1721 (12.2 (11) T).

When I use the encryption = authentication and Des-56 = ESP\MD5\HMAC-128 for the IPSec Security Association, everything works fine.

However, I would like to Turn off encryption for some time getting the speed improvements, so I changed

Encryption = null esp (in 1721) and to "null" in VPN-3000.

Now the tunnel is setup but I can spend only ICMP traffic. When I pass the traffic UDP\TCP the message below appears the Cisco 1721

% C1700_EM-1-ERROR: error in packet-rx: pad size error, id 75, hen offset 0

    Has anyone seen this behavior?

All those put in place an IPSec Tunnel with only the ESP authentication and NO encryption between VPN-3000 and Cisco 1721?

    Thanx------Naman

    Naman,

Disable you the vpn Accelerator? "no accel crypto engine. Sure that you can't do with a null module vpn.

  • The ACE IPS Cisco and Cisco ASA AIP - SSM (IPS)

Is there a difference between the features offered by the Cisco ACE IPS and Cisco ASA AIP - SSM (IPS) devices?

Can we do without Cisco ASA AIP - SSM (IPS) of 'only' configuration/implementation Cisco ACE IPS.

Cisco AVS/ACE emphasis on commissioning and to secure web-based applications. IP addresses do not focus on just the web applications and trying to get the multiple layers of the OSI stack. Consider the IPS as a general practitioner and the ACE/AVS as an eye surgeon, or something :)

Here is the response from Cisco itself:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/prod/collateral/modules/ps2706/ps6906/prod_qas0900aecd8045867c_ps6492_Products_Q_and_A_Item.html

Q: how is Cisco AVS Firewall application differs from an intrusion prevention system (IPS)?

    A. IPSs are solid solutions of protection against targeted attacks of known vulnerabilities in major platforms such as Windows, Solaris, Apache or Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). Cisco AVS excels to protect against targeted attacks Web sites or enterprise applications. These applications can be built custom internal applications or software vendor. Signatures and security patches are generally not available for these types of applications, and building these security levels in each application, it would be almost impossible.

Q: how is Cisco AVS Firewall application differs by a network firewall?

    A. The Cisco AVS 3120 and Firewall network such as the Firewall of Cisco PIX® and Cisco ASA 5500 Series Adaptive Security appliances are complementary products. The application Cisco AVS Firewall secures Web applications; excellent network in the network security firewall. and the Cisco AVS provides defense in depth for Web applications.

Firewall network apply policy networks, IP addresses and ports; they have a wide range of application for many different protocols layer features. The firewall can and will be deployed in many locations, including the edge, edge of the enterprise network, branch, etc. Cisco AVS imposed the policy on data HTTP as URL, headers and parameters. Cisco AVS is deployed in the data center in front of Web applications
