No Cisco SFP brand

Are off brand SFP modules that ensure a Cisco compatibility worth anything?

Like you can get copper GigE GLC - T of SFP = 3750's made by other companies how eNet for example?

What do you really want?  Ask yourself if it's a "good idea" to use brand X SFP in Cisco equipment?  If so, it is to you.  I believe that if you have problems with these SFP modules, Cisco will not support you unless you use their SPFS.

Then, if the brand X SFP work and they cost less, then it can be a "good idea."  If you have problems, then it may not be a "good idea."  Can't tell how the reduced cost (?) vs Cisco support is important to you.  It's something you have to decide.

For all Cisco SKU (Stock keeping units), the '=' at the end means a piece of spare or ordered separately article.

Without a '=' means usually the exact same item is ordered in a parent configuration - for example, a SFP as an optional part of a module switching.

They are exactly the same physical part.

  • Trouble connecting Netgear XS748T to Ubiquiti UniFi US-48-750W via Port SFP +.

We bought a new switch Netgear XS748T and try connecting to our existing network which consists of several switches of Ubiquiti UniFi US-48-750W, and we try to connect using the SFP + 10 GB ports on the two switches. We have a Direct Link SFP + SFP + DAC, passive, 1 m, cable AWG30, we bought at Amazon / 10Gtek and when we try to use this cable between the Ubiquiti switch and the Netgear we get no link activity.

However if we use the same cable between two of Ubiquiti switches it lights immediately and works very well, the same is true if we use the same SFP + cable between the switch Netgear XS748T and a XS728T that we must also. Its almost as if the switches detect the same manufacturer at the other end and right link up but when its manufacturer another pass on the other end, it does nothing.

It is very aggravating, and Im going to be obliged to return the new Netgear switches. Can someone make a suggestion or confirm if they should or may not work? Everything simply connecting switches together using a cable of copper works very well but since our current switches don't support 1 GB via copper it provides not enough bandwidth for our use so we really need the port SFP + 10 GB to give us the uplink.

Here is a link to the modules SFP + cable, we bought:

    https://www.Amazon.com/DP/B01LSGGUOY/ref=twister_B01M0ER4M0?_encoding=UTF8&PSC=1

It seems that I solved the problem myself. I bought a set of:
    10Gtek for Cisco SFP - 10 G - LR, 10 Gb/s Transceiver SFP + module 1310nm 10km

And the LR version worked instantly. I honestly don't know what's the difference between a SFP + SR module and a module LR SFP +, but for some reason any LR module has allowed these two switches to connect.

Here are links to the modules and the cable used in case anyone needs a solution to this:

  • Resilience 4510R Cisco and DELL S4048-suite

As a central switch using Cisco 4510R. To increase fault tolerance has been purchased DELL S4048 IT. It is not clear how to combine (how to create a battery). Throughout the manual describes how to create a stack with one manufacturer.

Just try to connect through riders DELL 2 CM 32 and Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU5M.

It was possible to connect only through the SFP-H10GB-CU5M Cisco when CISCO on the interface speed nonegotiate and Dell speed 1000. She don't go to the link 10 000.

The error it gives is that the transceiver is not a valid reference of Dell. For fault tolerance, you could just create a trunk between two switches.

  • Determine the side "reception" of the SFP optics

    Hello.

I have an upcoming implementation of dark fibre which requires me to run ZX SFP (cable distance of more than 10 k), but I need an attenuator in the side reception of the FPS at each end.

How I think we're the receiver?

With SFP 1350nm, it is not 'light' to see the exit and the number which is the transmitter, as it is on 850nm SFP - so, how do I do to the longer wavelength, those?

I've been unable to find a representation of the disgrametic of a CWDM SFP that indicates a specific - is it reasonable to assume a SFP WDM standard, is not the same thing?

Or should I connect with the attenuator on the one hand, check the input power, and then plug it into the other side and see if it makes a diference?

    Thank you.

    Look at Figure 1.

If it is compatible, is there much difference between it and the cisco GLC-SX-MM?

    Thank you

I was wondering if the HP Fiber module #AJ718A   ( http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/3790470 ) is compatible with it.

No, it won't.  You insert the SFP in a Cisco 2960 S and the port goes into 'err - disable' until you remove them.

is there much difference between it and the cisco GLC-SX-MM ?

Not a lot of difference.  There are only a few FPS manufacturers that provide components for the major manufacturers like HP and Cisco.  The difference is that Cisco has inserted a brand Cisco SFP IDPROM algo.  The unit will interrogate the component and if the extracted from the IDPROM hash values do not match, then the port goes in "err - disable.

  • 2 meter 10GB cable - cooper or optical?

I need to connect to the server FPS + with switch Cisco SFP +. They are very close between them, so I need just 2 metres of cable. I can do this with two cables:

    or the other

Assembly of optical cable Active SFP - 10 G-AOC2M of Cisco

    or

Together cable Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU2M Twinax cable, passive, 30AWG

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these cables? What is the best?

I use the server for commerce, so it is important for me to have the best possible latency and speed.

    They are functionally equivalent.

Optical, in general, has more resistance against RF interference, but at a distance of 2 m cases that shouldn't be a problem in all but the most extreme environments of use.

The copper version price is a little less than half the cost of optics.

Make sure that your server switch are compatible with part of your choice. Here is a link to the compatibility of switching matrix.

  • Single-mode fiber for 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps?

    Hi all

I do a tender for installation of optical fiber connecting the two rooms of 15 m away. We will use single mode with 1000BASE-LX/LH, but I also ask the fiber to support 10 Gbps in the future.

I checked plug FPS and see that 1000BASE-LX/LH and Cisco SFP - 10 G - LR can be used with distances over 2 m without attenuators.

    Ethernet Gigabit SFP

    10 GB ethernet SFP +.

Question: Do I need to specify any parameter of single-mode fiber that I pay attention so I can have without changing the fiber later? (similar to OM1, OM2, OM3 multi-mode fiber)?

    Thank you

    Mario

If the difference in price between G652 and G652D is very less you can go to G652D. But if it is substantial, then you can go G652 even in the future, you want to go for 100G. If, as suggested, you can go for fiber Multimode (OM3/4). I feel that 100 G will be useful for the very very large data centers. 10G is there for the last 10 years, but still, it doesnot make sense for many. But virtulaization/blades it will grow faster.

You talk about distance where you don't need characteristic given by G652D. They are mainly for the only service provider to long haul Distances.

  • C210 M2, questions RAID, impossible to see readers

    Hello

We have a server C210 M2, unfortunately the LSI RAID controller was not in order.  We bought a LSI MegaRAID 9261 - 8i separately as well as 2 x 0.75 m SFF-8087 cables to connect x SAS 5 readers, that we have to the server.

We cannot get the RAID card to recognize all readers.  They are loaded into the drive bays 1-5 and the two channels on the LSI card is connected to the ports ' discs 1-4 "and"disks 5-8"to the Board of Directors.". "  I assured the integrated controller is set to ENHANCED within the BIOS and tried the RAID card in several locations.

The card LSI or different cables to the Cisco card brand?

    Thanks in advance

I had situations similar to what your experience solved using the Cisco cable provided.

  • 8510 s that slow down all L2 networks, that they will connect

One of my first 8510 deployments went horribly wrong over the past two days. For 6 weeks, was stability. This week, suddenly the time of ping for controller - all interface - is of the order of hundreds of milliseconds and the traffic of users reflects the same latency.  Failover to the PSO partner makes no difference. Remove all but a uplink makes no difference. If I stopped momentarily uplinks and bring them back, ping times go back to back to 1ms as it should, during the hours as a pair box gets busier latency returns, and 5508 s on the same networks with uplinks identical trunks do not have something like what is happening. 8510 s are easy cabotage on the CPU and memory.

I have put lag in place on these, but TAC says it shouldn't matter. I have another pair with OFFSET configured that doesn't show the same behavior. I intend to make LAG, but the behavior seems just buggy. A generation of 8.0.110.9 climbing - 5508 s random reboot.

Never seen this kind of condition? Is without doubt that between our connected firectly Nexus 7 K and the 8510 pair, and not a matter of circulation as the 5508 s on the same subnet have no similar problem. Using the Cisco SFP.

I do not see it so far and have a pair of 8510 s in HA - SKU connected to a Nexus 7 K. Currently, they have only single interface of 10 GB each connected.

That installation is running 8.0.110.0.Have that monitor you the k 7 ports to see if they are being saturated?

  • Link 10 GB X 520 Intel on a single port R710

    Hello
    I have the following Setup
    X 520 DA2 10GbE SFP + optical Dual Port Server adapter
    R710
Attach the cable Cisco SFP + direct
    Reference Dell 8024F

When the server starts I get link on the two ports on the X 520 adapter. When the operating system (kernel of Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V) starts the link on port low down. It is at the same time the Qlogic FC adapters must be connected to the SAN FC network.
The Windows Device Manager reports "this device is working properly" on one of the ports and in the other port, it says "this device does not work properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) »

Intel driver version is 2.9.71.0 on the working port.
If I swap the cables between the port link is still in place on the same port-> no problem side switch/cable.
I swapped the 520 X to another adapter and the same problem came back-> no problems with the adapter.

I installed the firmware for X 520 Dell site and that did not help

I have the same configuration on both servers ESXi 4.1 works without any problem.

So what can make work a port and not the other? Dell support have not all useful ideas, not yet at least.

    / Johan

    Hello

I found a solution to my problem. After updating the driver Intel, I lost several operating system network interface cards. In my quad InterlNic only one port port work. I spent several hours trying different drivers for Intel and Broadcom. Bcom NICs had the same problem.

    Finally I found this support.microsoft.com/.../2460786

Disabling ipv6, to remove the network devices and reboot using devcon.exe. After that, I had 10 working NIC in my server.

Thanks for the suggestion to solve the problem. I like the idea of linking two ports to each other. I have not seen this before config.

    Hello

The X Catalyst 3750 - 12s switch is a based FPS you don't need SFP transceivers. Take a look at table 6 to the Cisco Gigabit Ethernet transceiver Modules compatibility matrix for details on the supported transceivers and the OS release that they are taken care of.
