HP LJ m401n: printer hacked

I'm trying to reconfigure two of our m401n HP LJ printers and am deny access to non only the control panel printers but the Web page via ethernet as well. When I attempt a connection using a USB cable and the software of HP config using a Windows 7 Enterprise system, I can connect to the printer Web page, but I'm still locked to make changes; I get the message fllowing everytime I try to save my changes, " '' Configuration is underway by another management tool. Contact your administrator. "

Does anyone have an idea on how to reset these printers factory specifications with using that I'm stuck on the control panel?

I found a youtube video which may help:

  • HP 401n false paper jam error

I have a HP Laserjet M401N printer that displays the error "Paper jam" on my default printer but the paper path is clear and verified with multiple eyes, the printer LCD is 'ready' and I can print the pages from the printer config and the printer web interface, but not through the properties of printer or any test page box I have send.

On our print server, the printer is also referred to as "paper jam", and I don't see a way to clear the error message.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks Dave,.

We could always connect to the printers web interface and even print pages of config here and in the reports menu on the printer itself.  Yesterday afternoon, after I posted I have updated the firmware of printers that does not seem to help, and then after I did a factory reset which does not solve the problem BUT, five minutes later, the error of jam allowed in the queue of the network printers and it has been fine since.  You wonder now if a dns flush and register on our print server would have also worked.

    But I'm ready, thank you!

See - the problem I have here is that you say 'someone hacked your printer' - - but it is more likely that someone of other printed stuff for your printer, they can visit his profile or obtained access to everything that is connected to the said printer - which in FACT is the problem, you need to investigate.

You will need to provide more information in order to wait for the appropriate advice.

    For example:

    • Is the problem limited to an application (such as Word) documents or multiple applications or applications?
    • What do you mean by "types of fonts"?
    • Do you mean different fonts (fonts strictly) for example Courier, Arial, Times New?
    • Or do you mean for example regularly, different variants of Bold, Italic, BoldItalic?
    • Or something else?
    • Can you provide a scan of an example? Use the the "insert/edit image" button to insert an image in a post (this may take up to 48 hours to "approve" until it's visible to others).
  • LaserJet 400 M401n local printer problem

I work for a company with remote office environment.

We have just recently swtched to a new model of small laser printer for the use of the local printer, and I have problems with the first we set up. The LaserJet M401n first was the installation of one of our field technicians program. They connected the device via USB for users HP Elitebook 2540p on docking station and installed the printer using the software from the cd provided and it worked fine.

End user required to move the printer away from the office, so the USB and power supply were disconnected from the printer and it has been moved and reconnected. After that, the computer showed that the printer is offline. Option of printing of the disabled user, but every time jobs have been sent to the queue, offline they errored quickly.

I worked with the user remotely and deleted the printer in printers and faxes and print driver from the options in the server properties in this window. I had the user re - connect the printer, but it was not to recognize that something has been connected.

I went into Device Manager, but I don't see any options to print USB media or DOT4 print media (which is usually the virtual USB port.) There were several devices named "USB Composite Device" and a device called a "USB Mass Storage Device". There are no data storage devices or memory cards connected to the laptop. After removing everyone from the Device Manager, I had the user he disconnect/reconnect the USB from the printer. At this point, the printer has been recognized as connected and adding hardware wizad came. At the same time, a HP Installer utility began. I checked in my computer and there is a removable storage device that provided this installer. It seems that this printer can be a memory chip that contains the software and drivers required.

I used the HP Installer and installed all the software and drivers, and the printer started working again.

A week or two later, the user has contacted me and the Office has had some changes made, then the printer must have been dissconnected and resumed contact with a long USB cable. The same problem resurfaced. The printer is connected and even shows like ready. Jobs fail when submitted, and reconnect the cables or rebooting doesn't fix it.

At this point, I wiped out all the HP report printer software and drivers, removed something that looke HP printer partner since the Device Manager, unplugged the printer and restarted the computer. I connected the printer after the restart and inserted the CD that came with the printer. I used Device Manager to install the printer driver and the print media files on the CD USB (I had to close the HP Installation Wizard about 10 times more it kept popping up). At this stage that the printer has been installed and operational, but when logged in with admin account, the printer should always be prompted for the HP installation software that seems to be running from a USB device stored inside the printer. Which is not "very important, but when I looked at the same way of dissconnected and reconnect the USB cable from the docking station, the printer has stopped printing again.

The laptop is a HP 2540p with a docking station. He seems to have the same problems when we use one of the USB ports on the docking station or the laptop itself.

In our company, we run a range of McAfee as VSE, MEE, MEE/PBA, DLP products.

I will try to upgrade the firmware of the printer and the laptop BIOS. I also asked for one of this model of printers be ordered for our test lab see if we can reproduce the problem on other machines

Ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.

    bigbankitguy,

You mentioned that the printer is connected via USB, is that still OK? I want to try the following:

    1. disable Smart Install via the control panel. (Small icon tool and equipment) Configuration menu > Services > scroll Smart Install > DESACT

Restart your computer and see if that solves your problem. If you continue to have problems, try the following:

    2. go into your task manager > Services tab > click on the button in the lower right of Services > locate HP DS Service > set to automatic; If stopped and then start the service.

    Restart the computer.

  • HP Laser Jet 400 M401n: "incorrect email address" when adding 2nd ePrint printer account

    QUESTION:
Get the error described trying to create a new email ePrint address after the attempt to add printer 2nd on our account.

    INFORMATION:
+ It shouldn't matter AT ALL because this is a process based on the web, but I'm on a Mac with OS 10.10.5 (Yosemite)
    + Printer already noted.

    * Sign on my HP, goto tab account and add a printer.
    * Enter the claim code on the printer I just got directly from my printer.

    * who did then appear next to enter an email address you want, such as: "[email protected]".
HP site suggests actually creating your own custom address to make it easy to remember.

    * After this point, a small error in the instruction text appears, saying: "incorrect email address.

    * The only option available - persevering emails unnecessary, because NOTHING will not work, or... Press CANCEL

    * After the cancellation - my printer does NOT appear in my devices tab and to try once again, I must first of all remove the printer.
    * "delete printer" web services, back on my computer through services of printer via a web browser.

    ATTEMPT:

    * This has been a useless cycle and NEVER accomplished anything.  I tried to change the passwords of my SnapFish account AND my HP account online (which holds my ePrint account.

    * I tried the process on different browsers.  Does NOT work, or assistance.

    * And support HP online chat was totally USELESS with this question.  Either completely stupid points, or stupid questions that I had already answered or based on the information I had already tried.

How can I get a second added printer if I can't spend not to add a second email ePrint?

During the process, I could see that the printer has been added successfully.  I wouldn't be able to get to the next step (addition of e-mail) if it was not true.  However, I couldn't see the icon of the printer after they told me that my printer has been added.  Do not complete the E-mail process will make all the incomplete process.

    THE QUESTION AND ANSWER:
The answer is the one who MUST be one of the first base of troubleshooting tips to do.  Check which browsers are used.  Most importantly make sure that Flash and/or Java is activated or as there are no extensions you might have that either inhibits these features somehow minor or major.  I had extensions that monitor those aspects that I have just went into Safari and temporarily disabled.  After completing the process - I turned on my rear power switch.

NOTE TO ANY HP TECHNICAL SUPPORT *.
The question is and has NEVER been on "BONES" - or more precisely, of Macintosh OS, which is superior in any case.  One based on web service or function such as this has NOTHING to do with the operating system.

It will depend on if it's a valid update or not. It is possible to do a clean reinstall and a malware scan to be sure. Troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malicious software and:

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you delete your Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not delete your Firefox profile (such as bookmarks and passwords) data, since this information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, follow these steps: Note: you can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from mozilla.org office (or choose the download for your operating system and language on this page) and save the file to install it on your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (or open the Firefox menu

      Click the close button

      ).

    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

  • text with a larger font for printing on paper of reflow

I visit the http://paragraf1.cappelendamm.no/c165513/sammendrag/vis.html?tid=205854 page and try to print it.

The result is "scaling to fit page', and has a very small font.
I can print in landscape mode, which solves the problem in this particular case, but I would like to be able to print in portrait mode.

If I feel 100% nationally, much of the text disappears to the right of the edge of paper.

I wish that it is a control to rearrange the text using large fonts without increasing the total width of the layout.

    Is there a way?

This site cleverly created which removes the first column of the table of three columns when you print a style sheet, but they neglected the fact that the width of the table is fixed in pixels for width too wide for portrait printing.

In this area and many other cases, you can manually 'hack' of the page to print better, but unfortunately, there is no single solution to this problem.

For example, in this case, you can remove the width setting of the table of three columns with a snippet of JavaScript code.

    (1) select the following script, and then copy it to the Clipboard:

    var tables=document.querySelectorAll("table"); for (var num=0; num<tables.length; num++){tables[num].removeAttribute("width");}

    (2) open the web console by pressing Ctrl + Shift + k (it's also in the Web Developer menu).

    (3) next to the circumflex accent (>) paste the line script and press ENTER to run it

(4), try to preview before printing to confirm that it worked. You can close the web console using the small "x" in the upper right corner of the pane, or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + k new.

I've always wanted an add-on that could attach to the top of any page to print, but because of the wide variety of page layouts, it is difficult to automate. For now, you can try one that allows you to add the page to the preview screen: Print Edit - Add - ons for Firefox. It takes some practice to select the correct element, but if you prefer really clean and usable prints, it might be worth investing a bit of time to learn it. Regarding the ' "smart printing, maybe one day!

  • Problem with hp hack attacks

I have a question where a hacker uses HP drivers installation files of windows to do the following:
Entry is gained by feeding information to the windows clock a small hp.cat file that creates a user and privileges.  Once in the pirate will set up a device to print either the status bar that is not used by your current printer, such as tray 2 or the duplex unit. Using the device virtual hp they created will send copies of all printed to your printer to an somewhere free email account like yahoo to your next connection.  For example, if the mail is a yahoo account, they will have a cookie in your browser whenever you reboot the computer for yahoo and when you have internet access will check the time on your machine and synchronize the data.  I struggled with these pirates for about 3 months and when I work to keep their they load my computer by viruses, bot and same programs encrypted drives on machines.  Immediately after their withdrawal from the first time they have used the clock to import and execute a bios.inf that erases all the data of your license, then from a command prompt will all the rollback windows updates. The latest drivers are the drivers of hp officejet 7300 +.  I've seen other hp drivers used to create virtual devices of fat the next time too.  Has anyone seen elsewhere this type of activity and is there a protection?  Firewalls offer no protection nor spyware program since the script also creates a vpn, then they activity is regarded as being on the local network.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated,
    Greg Elder

I guess if I could find a way to stop installing some drivers would help.  It uses hp to as a source for install packages if the packages are not there.

Maybe if I could choose myself updates would be good but if I do not install the Update Manager then install for me.  I hope that since he likes hp drivers then well maybe someone will recognize his work.    Look at these few lines of code.  Protection against that would be nice too.  Firewalls won't do any good because it is regarded as being on the local network after the seeding of the root file.

Number of brand and model of the router?

These settings are to set up your printer wireless (or wired):

    • Stay connected to your router
    • Trouble printer status 'offline '.
    • All wireless devices stay better connected
    • Fact faith, your router most secure and hack
    • Can speed up wireless printing

While the DHCP is convenient, devices like printers (wired and wireless) should always be assigned a (fixed) IP address manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network and must be outside the range of the router DHCP.  After setting the IP address static, computer must be updated to show a Standard TCP/IP port with the IP address of printers under printer properties/Ports.

    1. Set a static in the printer IP address (click here) outside the range of the DHCP of the router (check your manual). It is for Linksys routers, but can be used for all routers. Check your DHCP range and change this first if necessary. More Help Wireless Printing is here and here and still more here.  Video here explains the problem and how to solve the problem. <-so watch it!
    2. Or check in the printer "Auto Off/sleep/Energy Saving Mode" is disabled the System Mode Time Out is set to zero (0) Use the built-in webserver (EWS) by visiting the printer address IP address in the address bar of your browser, click on settings tab/Auto Off. Or use the printer, printer Home Page (EWS) Wizard. Also check your printer properties.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable the IPv6 option in the printer.
    4. Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a socket wall and not to a UPS, power strip or a lightning arrestor. This will cause the printer to drop offline connection and disconnection (checked yes!).

Additional measures to take if you continue to have the problem (if they are posted)...

  • Printer inkjet HP Envey 5540

While the DHCP is convenient, devices like printers must always be assigned an IP (fixed) manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network.

Or use the printer, printer Home Page (EWS) Wizard. Also check the properties of your printers.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable the IPv6 option in the printer.
    4. If necessary and you have assigned a static IP address, try using auxiliary for the preferred DNS Server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS server.
    5. Wireless printers work on the band Wireless 2.4 Ghz not the band 5.0 Ghz.
    6. Make sure the printer is on the latest firmware by checking with the HP support site.
    7. Check all devices wireless in your home for interference. Check microwave, babyphones, phones, wireless and wireless alarm systems are a big culprit.  Any of these will knock at your printer wireless intermittently.
    8. Make sure that your printer and router are at least 5 feet independently of each other.

In the router: (refer to the manual of your router for more information)

    1. Use a fixed wireless channel as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    2. Set the router to 20 Mhz only or 145Mbps router function.
    3. Always use WPA2-AES encryption (personal), but you can try the "mixed" mode
    4. Disable the WPS and never use it and disable the UPnP for the security of routers. No one can hijack your system now and help with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, research on the web).
    5. If you have a router dual band (2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz bands), make sure the SSID is NOT identical, they must be different for all the bands, even for networks without comments.
    6. SSID broadcast should be enabled.
    7. Save all the settings. Food at the same time, wait 2 minutes.  Power on router wait 2 minutes.
    8. Marketing the printer and check that it reconnects to the router.

Windows 7/8/8.1 is discovered the system on or off?

    1. Control Panel/Network and Internet/network and sharing Center / advanced sharing settings.
    2. Under home or work (current profile) / network discovery.
    3. Select "Turn on network discovery" and save the changes.

Now last thing to do once everything above has been tried and you still have the same problem, completely uninstall and delete the printer and its software.

Use http://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php .  Use of the powerful scanner at the end to remove all registry entries.

Now go back and reinstall the drivers and full software on the HP website.

Last resort effort - if your printer has an Ethernet connection, suggest you to get some adapters line and convert your Ethernet wiring for your printer.

Now the last thing to do once everything above has been tried and you still have the same problem, completely uninstall and delete the printer and its software.
